Kurt Donald Cobain (February 20, 1967 - April 5, 1994) was an American singer, songwriter and musician, best known as the guitarist, primary songwriter and frontman of the rock band Nirvana. Through his angst-fueled songwriting and anti-establishment persona, Cobain's compositions widened the thematic conventions of mainstream rock music. He was often heralded as a spokesman of Generation X and is considered to be one of the most influential musicians in the history of alternative rock.
In Utero is the third and final studio album by American rock band Nirvana, released on September 13, 1993, by DGC Records. Nirvana intended to depart from the more polished sound of their previous album, Nevermind (1991), with a greater range of sounds and moods. To capture a more abrasive and natural sound, Nirvana hired engineer Steve Albini to record In Utero over two weeks in February 1993 at Pachyderm Studio in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. The lyrics and album packaging incorporated medical imagery that conveyed frontman Kurt Cobain's outlook on his publicized personal life and Nirvana's newfound fame.
The writing for the bulk of what became In Utero was done in this house on Alta Loma Terrace high up in the Hollywood Hills.
Wow, you guys really lucked out that the back door was open. So hard to believe that a multi-million dollar house like that, with such an amazing history, would just be left empty and abandoned like that. Sad! Awesome that you guys were able to capture it on film though!

@@everlastla9053 no. They never bought it, only rented. The house was owned for many years by a couple and then sold in 1999 to a lady who lives in Alta Loma. I can only guess maybe she bought it for increase land value as it was bought for somewhere around 480k and now is assessed at triple.

@@everlastla9053 i had to do a fair amount of digging to find the owner. I messaged her on insta but her account is private so I don’t even think she read it. I may write to her if her listed address is correct and see what she plans to do. it’s only going to get worse because the graffiti in the living room was only done this year from what I could tell from videos.

I loved that too! As he was recording the living room, I imagined Kurt there living life and living his music and then suddenly Kurt's music came on and I was like DUDE I GOT THE GOOSEBUMPS! That really drove it to the next level. LOVE IT!
Whenever I see anything on Kurt Cobains life, I could cry. Such a beautiful man, with such a beautiful soul. His voice is like therapy. I was 17 when he passed. I was sat in a bar in Portugal. It broke my heart 💔
You were 5 years older than me. I remember that time being in 6th grade standing in line for the buss taking in the news about Kurt and feeling heartbroken because my rock hero died.

Kurt Cobain gave some of the most interesting and honest interviews. I'm not a Nirvana fan, but I am definitely a Kurt Cobain fan. Very articulate and likeable he was.
So sad that this house is being demolished. You can actually visualize Kurt and his family living there. If those walls could talk there would be amazing memories told. Thanks for this tour and for how respectfully you walked through the home.
they did not live there very long. And I'm not sure you want to know the stories the walls would tell. Montage of Heck tells some of them in these rooms...not pretty at all

I think right after this video came out, the house has been restored ( somewhat ) and put back on the market - I live close by and I'll go see for myself today.

My bad, it was just a photoshopped image on the real estate company's part LOL It is still the same - decrepit wood stairs and balconies and all - but Scott said it's been sold. Wonderful neighborhood though, and I was happy to go see that house as it was in 93 / 94

That fridge is the right vintage. And I would imagine that if someone had replace the appliances they probably wouldn’t have replaced them with something that is 30+ years old. So that fridge very VERY possibly that is the one they all used.
When i saw the bookcase and the photo of him standing right in front of it, i almost felt like i was intruding on his life. Crazy how 30 years later it’s all still there

i was getting ready to graduate highschool when Kurt passed away .Some people are die hard fans of Elvis an others including myself are die hard Nirvana fans .it is sad to see the house gone ,but it would of cost more money to get it shape than just building a new house

Thanks Scott - you both did such an amazing job. As someone who was 15/16 when Nirvana were around growing up in Wales, seeing this is both fascinating and emotional. Kurt touched so many people through his art/music...very much wish he was still around. I understand the bath in the house was used for the CD disc art for "In Utero" with a model sitting with legs hanging over the side...check your CD copy!! I have discovered both you and Michael through this so thanks. Can't wait to seek out more of your work.

First of all those 183 steps had me winded! Then you guys walk around on that unsafe looking walkway. I can't believe what some people did to the house with the graffiti... ugh!! I don't think a true fan would do that. But I can't believe you're there....it's like you feel his presence and can imagine him just being himself there. I'd like to find out the story behind the arichitecure and builder and original owner. It would be a great story. Wish I had the money to buy it too. I’m guessing the bathroom looked like that when they lived there because in the HBO documentary there is video of him in THAT tub. You can tell because of the tile around the top edge and the way he was laying in it.
I've got to find the documentary.
@@davidsiler5505 it’s on HBOmax. Not sure if you can see it other places. In the section of Francis it has a scene of him in the tub with her and if it’s slowed you can see the grey soap holder and the tile trim that matches up. I don’t think anyone else noticed that yet because I never see people mentioning it.
