Do you think CISM is a smart idea if you have 10 to 15 years of executive experience in another field and doing a mid life transition along with your course, Google, and Security plus? Also, does your course and Google prepare you completely for Security plus or will you need to do additional resources?
I think the CCNA or even the CompTIA N+ are also good certs to have in addition to the CyberSec certs. I managed to get into CyberSec with just a Security+ cert but while in the field I quickly realized that having an understanding of how networks work even if you don't know how to configure them greatly helped in my career
Awesome information, I have been a sysadmin for 6 years and trying to break into the cyber security realm. I just passed my Sec+ in Sept and working on my CySA+ now.
Thanks for putting this video together Josh! I’ve been watching your content for months now and it’s been really inspirational for getting me to pivot to a cyber career.
To be honest the Microsoft Cyber certificate course may be a better accompaniment to your cyber course since it's using Azure...Do both the Google and Microsoft versions if you can but either is great!
Thank you Josh for making these cyber videos. Im going back to school to finish my bachelor. These videos are absolute bangers, please post more. You probably already made this video, but maybe a Roadmap for which certs to get for cyber, like start from a+ - net+ - sec+. Or maybe google cyber cert - sec+ and compare the two roadmaps.
Hey i am from a country in africa and i love your videos 🔥 I am doing a computer science degree in 3rd year and I am trying to get into cybersecurity and your videos alhave been super helpful thanks 🙏 .
Hi Josh I have been following you from Ghana and I have watched most of your videos. been trying to break into tech with cybersecurity since the beginning of the year. I am already done with the Google cybersecurity course but I will be signing up for your cybersecurity course in November.
nice video, great content! i have 6 of these certs, but still i find it difficult to compare this 1on1. the oscp f.e. is a totally different cert than crisc. i have them both, but the knowledge, work and mentality is real different. the cissp is without a doubt the gold standard for cyber security, but for pentesting the oscp is on the same level, while for example the CCNA (which is on my list to get) is more of an basic allrounder. tbh in europe where i live i cant remember i have seen any of the comptia certs in job listings, although i think they are great.
Your cyber course seems very well made and good for recruiters because of all the practicality, someone asked this below as well but any thoughts on BTL1?
I honestly think the blue & red team certs are the most important ones after passing the Comptias . SANS institute have made me reconsider my portions since I am very hungry to learn more about out their quality materials. But they are very expensive ugh 😩
Haha thanks! And yeah, the number of people reaching out was very super noticeable after I got cissp 🤯. But I didn’t feel “smarter” after getting it lol. CCNA made me feel smart though 😂
Thanks for the content bro. Found your page a few months back & since then you’ve been dropping gems 💎! Due to you and others, I’m starting my journey to become a cloud security specialist. If you can make content on this also, it’ll be much appreciated. Keep up the great work Josh. It’s cool seeing a black successful man in tech! 👨🏾💻💎🔥
I special summon #Cyber Dragon then normal summon #Cyber Dragon core...I then xyz summon #Cyber Dragon Nova and then I overlay #Cyber Dragon Infinity to win the game! Go my Infinity #Cyber Infinity Burst Blast!!!!
So... if there were a credibility aspect introduced, this list would be a little better. Barrier to entry, credibility, proof of capability, etc, would be more fulfilling of a cert list. Assuming all things are equal, this is great! Understanding they arent, nuance is necessary. I have ISC2 CC, Sec+, CYSA+, Pentest+, CASP+, and continue to get denied. Why? Real technical experience. What can I do? Well... nothing, BUT I HAVE CERTS LOOK! The Pentest+ is a barrier to entry cert for a position, but I'd need OSCP (proof of capability) to prove I'm worth being considered. (Outside of a portfolio, and other types of co sidersble experience).
I have never heard of Pentest+ being a barrier to entry cert? If you want to be in red teaming you need an OSCP, thats pretty much just reality. What's funny, is that I worked in IT 12 years ago, with goals to become a PT. At the time, I had Cybersec friends, and PT mentors and even then it was OSCP if you wanted to be a PT. Fast forward, a career change (still did IT work in other job) and back into IT, and that dream is alive again. Backtrack became Kali, and OSCP is still required. So much changes and so much stays the same. And thats a large reality with these Certs, why do OSCP, Security Plus, and CISSP hold so much weight? Because they held that same weight 12 years ago. And that statement, of being the gold standard 12 years ago, was also true then. All these news certs, new courses, ect they will never match Certs that have been the gold standard since the 90s, they can't, too much time too much knowledge of their existence.
hey josh, hope your having a good night and enjoying some good anime. Please, make a general IT tier list, like an indepth 30 minute version included, cisco(ccna, ccnp, ccie), AWS(solutions), Microsoft, google, comptia, cisssp, gsec. There is literally not a video or list on the entire internet. Thanks.
0:28 - ok, if you are "breaking in" - you really shouldn't be looking at $100k positions right off. You need to pay your dues. ;) Overall nicely done - CIS Professor ;)
Hey Josh hope you're great! What's your opinion on the AZ-500 certification? In your opinion how "valuable" in terms of industry recognition and potentially landing a job in the Cloud Security industry for someone specializing in Azure? Do you think it's worth it or not really? Thanks a lot for all your work, you're the man! (:
Hey Josh amazing video I wanted to ask if you have made a video about the roles of cloud computing the ones that are not as coding heavy? Alot of the roles I see or very broad ones
Big fan of your videos. How do you feel about the BLT1 in comparison to your course? Would love to do both but I am curious is all. I have about 6.5 years of experience and am looking to move into a Cloud Security role in the near future ideally.
I guess I can't argue with the list but real hackers hate CEH. It's a bullshit exam with a bullshit price. But HR managers don't know any different so they think it's worthy. Ashame things like OSCP or TCM certs aren't more widely accepted as decent certs. With that said....Pen Test+ is taking over the CEH and becoming known a lot more in the space since it's cost less and the exam is considered harder than CEH.
OSCP is the Gold Standard PT cert. Don't know why you think it isn't widely accepted? You have ever seen a Job positing for Pentesting that didn't include the OSCP? CEH has more postings because it covers more than just PT, and so it's listed under other Cyber Sec jobs. TCM is never going to be adopted like CEH or OSCP, they have been gold standard for over 20 years, that's why they are where they are. Time means alot.
CYBER Thank you again for this wonderful share!. I have GCIH, GSEC and currently job hunting. Would you recommend CISSP at this stage or should I continue building skills...blue team labs etc? Or perhaps you course? 😁
would it be better go get general IT BS with all these certs to go into cybersecurity and if I want to change to cloud I have the IT general, or is it better to go for Cybersecurity get these certs as well and stick to that, if in 10 years I want to switch to cloud would the cybersecurity degree even matter? If not can I just get cloud certs in that situation?
Cyber Another great video! Definitely want to combine Comptia Security+ with your Cybersecurity course since I just completed the google cybersecurity certificate. Do you have a discount code for your course by any chance? Please let me know, Thank you Josh!
Hi Josh, Thanks for all the content you have shared with us. I am really interested in your program but don't have all the funds needed right now. I would love if we can set up an arrangement for the payment so I don't meet out. Thanks.
Hey Josh, just want to know if I have a unrelated degree and want to get into tech, is it better just to get certs or should i get a bachelors in like IT or something? (Money is not an issue)
Great question! Check this out! This is likely gonna be released next week, video just for you! (Don’t mind the title, it’s kinda a joke lol) ruclips.net/video/uj3cC_sFMjY/видео.html

Me personally I would go for anything that’s a baseline DOD requirement.
Awesome information, I have been a sysadmin for 6 years and trying to break into the cyber security realm. I just passed my Sec+ in Sept and working on my CySA+ now.
Being a Sysadmin for 6 years puts you in line for CISSP. I would just do that..
Thanks for putting this video together Josh! I’ve been watching your content for months now and it’s been really inspirational for getting me to pivot to a cyber career.
