    Love the channel, but 3d max itself is old grandpa that doesn't follow nowadays. Slate material editor is a old and unfunny joke, crashes are common thing, biped is an unwanted forgotten child and animation editors itself are bad, UV editor is the worst on the market, really... the only one good thing that happened to the 3d max past 10 years is a TyFlow. Well few years ago I switched to Maya for animation and Houdini for FX, and I will never comeback. Tyflow is amazing, but Houdini is another level.

      Good for you; for me last few years updates have been very good. I can model much faster in version 2023 than in 2020 and it has been very stable with only few crashes most of which were caused by 3rd party plugins

    • @Kill3dge
      @Kill3dge Год назад

      @@petarivic6528 are you a modeler? if yes then 3d max is probably the best soft for that, this soft has always good modeling tools - and now they are probably the best on the market, and splines? 3d max splines are the best splines that I have ever used in any 3d soft.
      Question, have you ever used a Maya UVeditor? try once and you will never ever do any uvs in 3d max.
      ...and if you do some FX/Animation or advanced rigging... oh boy... the only thing that hold this soft is tyflow.
      About crashes (tested in 3d max 2018, 2021 and 2022):
      - you want to copy script controller? random crash
      - if you are in modifier panel and try to quick select objects in scene explorer? random crash
      - do you have a huge scene? like 4x4km? then try to add "out of range" parameter to animated object (one axis) and you will see that you object movement is shifted in different axis
      - you have a nice mocap and want to add some custom movement? you need to create mix (your biped position is reseted to 0), the bake it and after that you can add additive layer, in Maya you can do this all at once without reseting position.. and this list goes on and on...
      After 10 years of using 3d max for animations and fx, company switched to Maya... and no regrets.

    I don't understand why 3ds Max doesn't have a Taper Measure tool like SketchUp, which would make 3ds Max stronger for architects.

    Hey Eloi, since Tyflow was released, beta and pro, do you think Thinking Particles has been used less and less? Or are there different applications for both solutions? And thanks for the awesome channel!

    • @andvfx
      @andvfx  Год назад +1

      I think tyflow eat some marketshare to tP, its easier to use and very fast. I keep using more and more tyflow, but for some tasks I go to tP.

    Thanks so much for another awesome portion of 3dsMax news! These VFX shots are insane... I kind of wish there was an equivalent of Railclone natively in this software, it would open up so many procedural workflows. Right now, you have to get Railclone or switch to Houdini. Array modifier is good, but nowhere near as powerful.

    • @andvfx
      @andvfx  Год назад +3

      Yes, as you said array its pretty awesome for simple tasKs, but I wish too for a push on procedurality in general in max.

    I have maybe a weird question, but don´t know somebody else in to ask. I do 3D visualizations mostly for agencys and their industrial customers of their products for still renderings or animations. I work still in 3dsmax 2015 + Vray ... got stuck due to the subscription model I found to expensive as a solo freelancer as part time (50%) 3D viz, in the rest 50% I am filmmaker .... Anyway, I found out about the implementet Arnold renderer and the cheaper solo freelancer subscription and thinking about to do the move. And here´s my question: is there a huge learning curve to figure Max 2023 + Arnold out? Or is Vray the better choice? Thx for taking time to give me your thoughts! 🙂

    • @andvfx
      @andvfx  Год назад +1

      Go for the indie version! For arnold coming from vray I think its pretty easy. I did a video covering the basics

    • @andvfx
      @andvfx  Год назад +1

      max itself as UI doesnt change much, will take no time to get used to it. But for sure from 2015 to 2023 you will see a huge bump in performance in general, and a lot of great new modifiers that can make your life easier in modeling, like Smart extrude, better curves, retopology, array, and much more.
