I took a sliding screen and took it apart and put cut vegetables on it and overed it with the other screen and set it on top of my jeep's luggage rack. I put it up "high" to keep the endless ants we have here in texas out. It gets so hot here.

In the olden days my grandmother and my mother would make Racks using the black screens that were used in the screen doors of their day. They would put the food on the rack and then lay a screen on top of the food so the flies couldn't get it and Then either put it on top of the house or shed or anywhere that They could get good sunlight using a metal roof to heat it up more. I also remember them hanging bunches of herbs and things together in the kitchen and letting him dry that way too. I think you have very good ideas. I have several dehydrators and like using in them inside. But there are things such as onions and garlic and some other stuff that have to be set outside or it will stink you out of the house. I also take thread and sew my hot peppers on a long string to dry and it works good. I think I will make me a rack like you have outside. I think I'd like to have one with glass facing the sun just like you would use the car glass windows if the tray was up on the dash. Thanks Starry!❤️🙏

My Mother used to make "Fodder" beans! She took thread or twine, with a needle, broke her green beans and laced them on by sticking the needle and thread through them! Tiny bit of space between them, for air circulation. They were hung in our livingroom! Cooked with salt pork, they were delicious! Put TATERS in them too! Some cornbread, you've got a meal! We all miss you so much Starry! Bee Blessed Danny and Rita in TN on Rooster's Ridge

That is a grate Idea I may have to use. I ordered a dehydrator and it’s late somewhere lost in the mail but I do have access to a car. Hopefully it’s sunny tomorrow. Here in Ontario Canada we’re just starting to see some budding on the trees some more than others but the temperature has been raising. What a great idea thank you friend and happy gardening. I’ve got a look into this back to Eden Garden sounds cool well happy gardening season to all.

Starry, I have an old bar stool that has the back of the seat broken. I am removing the seat and replacing it with a small self-built box dehydrator, and will place it on my blacktop driveway on low humidity days - it gets full sun. My purpose - easy rotation through-out the day if there isn't much of a breeze. lol It may not work, but I have NOTHING to lose since it is all salvage stuff. ;)

I just love your ideas! I think why people are pushing away these old fashion ways is because they are germaphobic. They think about bug flying around on their food in the open like that. I would love for you to talk one day about building our natural immunity and thing can be clean and healthy but not sterilized and expensive. I'm surprised that people can eat at all with the way they feel about every little bug and such. We sterilize ourselves right into getting sick.

    • @rebeccashetter2309
      @rebeccashetter2309 7 лет назад +3

All food that we buy in the store is allowed a large percentage of roach, fly, moth, magget larva; and rat hair in it. Just look at tea stored in a jar or herbs and you will see the little buggers hatched and dead inside. If you are concerned about bug larva; just oven can or seal 0 meal you mason jars and they will die and never hatch.

We have high humidity it still dries everything It just takes longer that's all!! Same with the electric dehydration it tells you how long according to humidity!!
I believe where there's a will there will always With Gods he'll be a WAY!!!
Starry thx for sharing this I do have a question I have the Excalibur dehydrator for the house...Sometimes when the humidity is high it doe take twice as long as it normally would to dehydrated things like Basil for instance...
Anyway I was informed you Can over dehydrate???
    I personally can't see how that's possible??
    Starry Can you You tell
Me how you feel about this OVER DEHYDRATION??? I mean it's irrational running back and forth and opening and closing that dehydrator for a few crumbs that got dry faster than the rest??? Love it thx for the history lesson...
I made the first comment for the ones on here that made the comment... (you can't dehydrate outdoors with humidity)
Because As long as you have air and heat you can dehydrate anything anywhere...
    It amazes
Me how many people want you to believe you can't do anything in this world!! They all seem to have their own theory's even though I guarantee you they never tried it Or they heard it from another person, Or they just want to make the person on Utube be wrong so that can get a ton Of Likes!!
I'm personally sick of the like button!!
Starry did you know you can set the like button to where your the only one that knows how many likes or dislikes you actually get??
I think it's great!!! Several people I follow do it Noreen's Kitchen,
    Also Linda's Pantry..It keeps the
    Trolls as
You call them at. At because they can't see how many dislikes you got over what they said ROFLMBO🤣🤣 Gobe it a try someday..
Please.Answer my question at your convenience I know it's a busy time for us all..I have to get my delicate hers in the house before I loose them!! Take care God Bless you and Mr. Hilder always 4 EVER!! 💕🤗🙏🏻Shey

Hi starry, do you rehydrate your strawberry before consuming ? If so, how or maybe you do some jam or ice cream with !? Thanks for reminding us old school and cheap way to do what people buy usually in grocery .Have a nice day
