I like the multiple shelves dehydrator. I think my husband could build one. the car is as cool idea too. You're never out of ideas, Starry! amazing! I'm so glad I got to meet you at the conference. ... you're such an inspiration! !
I am in the process of making my own right now I'm using stainless steel box and I'm using beef jerky trays 12 to 16° trays I made one from Plywood are used it for five years it works really good thank you God bless
In the olden days my grandmother and my mother would make Racks using the black screens that were used in the screen doors of their day. They would put the food on the rack and then lay a screen on top of the food so the flies couldn't get it and Then either put it on top of the house or shed or anywhere that They could get good sunlight using a metal roof to heat it up more. I also remember them hanging bunches of herbs and things together in the kitchen and letting him dry that way too. I think you have very good ideas. I have several dehydrators and like using in them inside. But there are things such as onions and garlic and some other stuff that have to be set outside or it will stink you out of the house. I also take thread and sew my hot peppers on a long string to dry and it works good. I think I will make me a rack like you have outside. I think I'd like to have one with glass facing the sun just like you would use the car glass windows if the tray was up on the dash. Thanks Starry!❤️🙏
I was just saying how nice it would be to have a solar dehydrator. I'm not sure it would work in our climate though with the humidity in the 70-90% range. Love to see what you are doing though!
My Mother used to make "Fodder" beans! She took thread or twine, with a needle, broke her green beans and laced them on by sticking the needle and thread through them! Tiny bit of space between them, for air circulation. They were hung in our livingroom! Cooked with salt pork, they were delicious! Put TATERS in them too! Some cornbread, you've got a meal! We all miss you so much Starry! Bee Blessed Danny and Rita in TN on Rooster's Ridge
That is a grate Idea I may have to use. I ordered a dehydrator and it’s late somewhere lost in the mail but I do have access to a car. Hopefully it’s sunny tomorrow. Here in Ontario Canada we’re just starting to see some budding on the trees some more than others but the temperature has been raising. What a great idea thank you friend and happy gardening. I’ve got a look into this back to Eden Garden sounds cool well happy gardening season to all.
I took a sliding screen and took it apart and put cut vegetables on it and overed it with the other screen and set it on top of my jeep's luggage rack. I put it up "high" to keep the endless ants we have here in texas out. It gets so hot here.
I did not make them, I purchased it at the homesteading conference and gave it to starry so we would have matching ones lol. Mrs. Paulette Ford makes them I will try to link her face book page. They are soooo cute! facebook.com/profile.php?id=100010465724715 I don't know if you have to be friends to view it or not but if you cant access it let me know and I will contact her with your information if you want. She's great!
Yeah not worth being paranoid I mean the biggest thing that has changed my life is Jesus Christ so I know I have full assurance all the way up until the end with or without a homestead I'm in good hands you should try him sometimes it's worth it
Brilliant ideas! Thank you. Now that I just bought a giant food dehydrator, I'm regretting bc here in Las Vegas probably I can easily do without it, lol
I love this video!!! Thank you for sharing… I live in an apartment… I'm going to get my brother to make me one of these. Love it!!! Have a blessed day love y'all
I'm kinda new to your channel, but my husband and I love your videos!! We have been trying to watch them all!! Love your happy personality and all your wonderful ideas!! Keep them videos a coming!! Lol :)
Starry, I have an old bar stool that has the back of the seat broken. I am removing the seat and replacing it with a small self-built box dehydrator, and will place it on my blacktop driveway on low humidity days - it gets full sun. My purpose - easy rotation through-out the day if there isn't much of a breeze. lol It may not work, but I have NOTHING to lose since it is all salvage stuff. ;)
I just dehydrated kiwi fruit in my ceiling cavity. Just install a small fan to keep the air circulating. Come summer I am going to dehydrate as much as I can
Thank you stary this is great information i have a dehydrator and solar pannels but dislike the 12 to 48hrs that it needs to run! Im going to try make use of your ideas! 🌟
Hi from Rotorua New Zealand.. A friend here made a great one , but I wanted simplicity and thanks , you gave it... many of my friends here are looking ... if no electricity what do we do for..?? Drying food was top of list, we are moving into more summer.. Also looking at cold storage, like digging a pit somewhere, looking into what.te Ver we can find.. Thanks for this vid, loved the car ides...
I am so late to the Starry party as I just found you, but so enjoying this channel! I've got a load of old wood from a fence we had to replace, so tomorrow I am going to build a dehydrator! And to think as just looking for one on Ebay...
How do I do St. John's Wort? I think I have it growing and didn't know I could dehydrate it. Dehydrate leaves or flowers? Then what? Eat it or put in recipes? Now I'm excited about this! Starry, I want to be you 🤗.
OH dear lady. You are so dynamic. I wish you were my next door neighbor. My wife and I would love you from here to the constellation Pleadise and back again.
great ideas, would work well in my climate, Queensland summers very hot, 36degreesC + although humidity is high, I think it would dry quickly , you could fry eggs on the cement here
We have high humidity it still dries everything It just takes longer that's all!! Same with the electric dehydration it tells you how long according to humidity!! I believe where there's a will there will always With Gods he'll be a WAY!!! Starry thx for sharing this I do have a question I have the Excalibur dehydrator for the house...Sometimes when the humidity is high it doe take twice as long as it normally would to dehydrated things like Basil for instance... Anyway I was informed you Can over dehydrate??? I personally can't see how that's possible?? Starry Can you You tell Me how you feel about this OVER DEHYDRATION??? I mean it's irrational running back and forth and opening and closing that dehydrator for a few crumbs that got dry faster than the rest??? Love it thx for the history lesson... I made the first comment for the ones on here that made the comment... (you can't dehydrate outdoors with humidity) Because As long as you have air and heat you can dehydrate anything anywhere... It amazes Me how many people want you to believe you can't do anything in this world!! They all seem to have their own theory's even though I guarantee you they never tried it Or they heard it from another person, Or they just want to make the person on Utube be wrong so that can get a ton Of Likes!! Take care God Bless you and Mr. Hilder always 4 EVER!! 💕🤗🙏🏻Shey
I just love your ideas! I think why people are pushing away these old fashion ways is because they are germaphobic. They think about bug flying around on their food in the open like that. I would love for you to talk one day about building our natural immunity and thing can be clean and healthy but not sterilized and expensive. I'm surprised that people can eat at all with the way they feel about every little bug and such. We sterilize ourselves right into getting sick.
All food that we buy in the store is allowed a large percentage of roach, fly, moth, magget larva; and rat hair in it. Just look at tea stored in a jar or herbs and you will see the little buggers hatched and dead inside. If you are concerned about bug larva; just oven can or seal 0 meal you mason jars and they will die and never hatch.
Hello! Thank you for this video, I just have one question how do you store your dehydrated food afterwards.. I'm knew to this and I see a lot of people using plastic bags or jars that have the oxygen sucked out of them with some sort of vacuum, what do you recommend? Thank you very much
Hi starry, do you rehydrate your strawberry before consuming ? If so, how or maybe you do some jam or ice cream with !? Thanks for reminding us old school and cheap way to do what people buy usually in grocery .Have a nice day
Hey Starry,,,, do you have a page or video detailing your medicinal herbs and what you use them for? I'd LOVE to start my own off grid medicine cabinet
How do you store your dehydrated foods & herbs Starry? Mason jars? I'm still using my dried basil that air dried in the house hung upside down & it still has wonderful aroma and taste after 2 years. But as far as dehydrated food that had a lot of moisture...how long without vaccum sealing it?
I live in Florida and it is very difficult to dry anything especially in the summer without an actual dehydrator. Is there any tips you have for someone who lives in extremely high humidity?
google it...i kinda just know...it only takes a day for most of my stuff..but even if it gets real dry..dont worry..its a dehydrator thats what its suppose to do..

Question. I am new to dehydrating. How do I know when it is done? Do I want the zucchini to be crisp like a chip or pliable?
google it...i kinda just know...it only takes a day for most of my stuff..but even if it gets real dry..dont worry..its a dehydrator thats what its suppose to do..
How did zucchini work out? I have a lot too!
Speaking of food preservation what is your method of storing your eggs from your chickens long term? I've heard wood ash is a good way to keep them well preserved. Love the channel. God bless c:
Preserving it in lime has been proven to be 100% succesfull even still after 8 months!!! Personally never tried it as my free range chooks lay eggs faster than what I can use it, I give dozens away a week!!
would love to dry this way but our humidity is to high.
Watching, Watching.... Love Ya,Thanks for sharing, Lo :)
I was wondering how to do eggs without a freeze dryer 🤔
