I haven't had a puppy in 15 years! I'm a professional pet sitter and dog walker but am by no means a puppy expert! So thankful for these videos. It was recommended to me on RUclips and im so happy that it was! I'm Planning on getting a puppy in the next couple of months and am binge watching these videos like nobody's business! Thanks Michele for all you do for us puppy parents or soon to be puppy parents lol
Thanks so much for watching, and congrats on your future new furry family member! We have a great (and free) resource for new puppy parents. It's our New Puppy Starter Kit! You can check it out here: howtotrainadreamdog.com
Oh yeah, it's a work in progress. Lesson learned don't sleep with collar. Tip going to use feeding in the crate. Daisy is actually doing really well considering owner makes lots of mistakes
We are all brave new learners, especially when it comes to puppies! The good news is that young puppy brains are learning new things all the time so you can adjust your methods and learn new techniques together!
I removed the bedding from my 12 week old puppy’s crate today because it was fine until it wasn’t fine! 😉. She does better at night with the crate covered in front. It seems to reduce distraction and she settles well. I also started to take the collar off of her today. If I put a treat or two in the crate, usually she will go right in. So far so good….
Just got 2 puppies a couple weeks ago. They go in their crates by themselves already. I've been really lucky with them, I guess. Things are going great.
That's awesome, Emma! Some dogs adjust to their crates really easily. Have you seen our video on littermates? It applies to any dogs of approximately the same age in the same household. ruclips.net/video/p_RDIS9yoVo/видео.html
Yes I made the mistake of not having the time to train my puppy until I got him home. And I just had to put him in the crate that first night without introducing him first.
I had 2 dogs for over 12 years. They were always together, slept in the same dog bed, always. They made 8 or 9 trips across Canada, on an airplane, in the same crate. They were happy together, but very agitated apart. So, in my opinion, it can work, very well, depending in the relationship the dogs have. I would not recommend it for larger dogs, but for smaller dogs, it was awesome for them!
Today is day 2 with our 7week old German Shepard. She walks into the crate by herself and stays in there while she is sleeping. Throughout the night she is crying a lot. But she is content originally when she goes in and after her first potty. So it’s mostly midnight -6am of challenge
It sounds like you guys are off to a great start! In Module 1 of our course, we have several videos that help with crate training, including confidence building games you can play with your pup. Just got a puppy, she is staying in a large laundry room with her crate inside and pee pads in thd opposite area. She cries all night pee on the pee area but poops when she is around the rest of the house. Getting her a play pen now and hopping she will do better at night.
I got a dog literally off the street. She was a stray and house breaking has been an adventure. I’ve had her for 4 days. I have two dogs who I got from a rescue and were all crate trained.
It's not too late, will just take some patience and time! We might be able to help you best at the Pro-Level where you can submit photos and videos in our private student-only facebook group for our trainers to review and give feedback to. My puppy was doing fantastic when we brought her home. It was her safe zone. She’s sleep with the door closed or open. She was going in on command. But now she’s terrified of it. Shakes and even pees out of fear. Something traumatized her and we still haven’t figured out what caused it. We don’t spank her, we don’t scream or yell. We try to vary the times that we have her in there so she doesn’t associate it with us leaving her…we’re at a huge loss here and I’m afraid she’s been scarred for life
Sometimes young puppies do well when they are new to your home and overwhelmed. After they settle in they start to form their own opinions. For best results, play the crate games in our training program to slowly and positively teach her that the crate is a good place. You'll need to go at a pace that is comfortable for her. The program can guide you through it and also outlines stress signals to watch for. 30 Days to Puppy Perfection Training Program www.howtotrainadreamdog.com/30-days-to-puppy-perfection
I have a 7-month-old Jack Russel pup..who once in the crate, just hates it as soon as I shut the door and will start barking and crying when I leave the room.. I have tried feeding him in the crate with the door open ..leaving treats in it and sitting nearby.. and he will go in it to eat them and then out again..he's even gone inside the crate looking for them on his own even if they are not there.. But he NEVER stays there to rest..he has NEVER slept in it..and although I am mostly here with him and he does not need to go in except for maybe once a week....Sometimes I just can't take him with me and - he panics .. Now he has gotten to the point where he does not soil it while I leave him in there ..I mostly only go for an hour ..or 1 2/2 hours at the most, but he is a crazed animal when I get home..crying and absolutely hysterical..Please advise me how to crate train him properly so he won't panic when he has to be left in his crate.. I live alone - there is no one around who can babysit him if I have to leave the house without him.. I need him to learn that the crate is not dreadful - but a safe place to stay and rest.. You really seem the best in giving sound and sensible advice..So please..I beg you for help with this crate insanity.. ***Thanks in advance.. and No there are no doggy daycares here..I live in a rural part of France..This village doesn't even have a dog park.. Thanks, Cassie Callan

we have had our puppy for 6 days and have only put him in there for sleeping at night. during the day he sleeps where ever he wants. guess i need to start to change that
What about a senior dog, 8 years old? Should she have zero bedding or blankets? She loves to snuggle under blankets when she sleeps, I know for a fact that she would feel punished if she went in her dark crate with the plastic mat and no blankets or anything in there.
An older dog is much less likely to chew the fabric. They are not longer teething. You can try different types of bedding but watch carefully for any chewing.
I had a incident where my mom forgot to take of one of my puppies collar’s off and when I got home it was stuck in her mouth like you were talking about. I quickly go it off her and remind my mom to make sure to take off all collars.
We use a bell at the side door we taught our Chi-Z hi we would use the bell and go out side the Puppy learned to use the bell when he wanted to go out side his name was Chief he leaved🎉🎉🎉 to be 17yrs old it hurt but we enjoyed our time together he walked 2 miles to his grand pa & ma on the way home it was about 6 blocks away from home don’t forget the bags & water🎉🎉
Had a lot of dogs in my life this is the first time I ever tried to create create the dog he did my going to the traveling case he waited to that one so what did I took them home with their year old baby to see what he would do she went with she do she she would get there or that would it so I have posted them open so she could make up her old white where she wants to sleep she's only a year old
Great video, thank you. I like the crate! I'm struggling with the size of crate to start with? I'm due to have an English pointer next year.. any recommendations?
You'll want the crate to be big enough that they can stand up, turn around and stretch inside without hitting any of the sides. Your best bet may be to purchase a wire crate that comes with a divider, so that you can expand it as your puppy grows!
our puppy is 8 weeks old and does not want to be in crate or play pane alone :( she start crying ,screaming )we try to let her self soothe and she vomit and did not stop crying we are so lost. We are trying to learn her to to be even in play pen for little bit on her own but there is no chance .......she is screaming non-stop.........really desperate here 😢 😢
If your puppy is crying, screaming or throwing up it means she's in panic mode. No new learning or adjustment will take place when she's in that state. It's time to take the training more slowly and build up to leaving her alone, but she's not ready for that yet. We have a good video that can get you started, including getting a few key tools that will help her, like the Snuggle Puppy. Then you can start on fun training games to help her develop more independence and crate confidence. Check out this video to get started, and then consider our online course for the training games. ruclips.net/video/s0r-E3R3XT4/видео.html 30 Days to Puppy Perfection: www.howtotrainadreamdog.com/puppy-perfection-course-learn-more/
Hi, I have a Velcro dog, Doberman, got her two days ago annnnnnd I made the mistake of letting her sleep on my bed and now if I’m up there she cries, I know it’s reversible, but still a thing I caused because she was fine in her crate untill I did this 🤕

I’ve always covered my dog crate with your advice. When I leave for the day should I leave it uncovered or not? I don’t think you mentioned anything about it in your videos. Going back to office has me w a anxiety haha
our first dog were complete opposite he was very easily trained to be in crate and he is creamy become dreamed dog!!!!! But wit our second dog nothing work 😢
My dog is four years old and was never potty trained... I didn’t get the shitzu male dog until he was already year and a half. I’ve been taking the dog outside continuously...he does great while he’s outside... but we have a problem when it gets to be cold weather, then he goes in the house....not sure what else to do.
You can follow the same fundamentals of potty training that we recommend for puppies. We go into a lot more detail in this free kit! www.howtotrainadreamdog.com
My 8 week ridgeback will stay in crate when I sit outside of it with the door open. Should I do this till he gets more comfortable? I don’t know how to set up night time ? Should I sleep next to him… should I let him sleep wherever? I am not sure what to do…. He wants me to stay next to him… is that ok for now ?
We can guide you through crate training as part of our online course, including how to know when to walk away and what to do if he's panicking. 30 Days to Puppy Perfection: www.howtotrainadreamdog.com/puppy-perfection-course-learn-more/
I made the mistake of letting my 5 month old.boxer sleeping the room, he sleeps in his crate at first but almost always at 1 am he wakes up and it's hit or miss if he'll sleep quietly in the crate or bark for.hours after his midnight pee break
Give yourself some grace! We have several crate training videos that can help with this process. Here is a great one to watch next: ruclips.net/video/rnMFXmzh_Cc/видео.html
I work from home and plan to go by your plan for crate training. Is it possible to move the same crate from office during the day to bedroom at night? Will this confuse baby dog? Thank you!
I have two puppies, both from the same litter. Their actually 13 months now and my boy is more part Rottweiler and Lab while his sister is more part Lab and Pitt Bull. He’s been going into his crate really well and is doing well all around. She on the other hand was going into her crate good but has suddenly stopped doing it at night and has just plain gotten naught all the way around since we’ve had her spayed. She’s always been our problem child and is on doggie Prozac because she’s so overly reactive to EVERYTHING! In fact the night we took her in for surgery I had to give her the shots to put her to sleep so they could do the surgery because she wouldn’t let anyone touch her. And we had to bring her home right after. I’ve been told to find a vet behaviorist to help us but that means a 3 hour drive one way for us. What do you suggest? Just wondering.
I'm so sorry you're pup is having such a hard time. Keep in mind she isn't giving you a hard time, she's having a hard time herself. So while our human brain considered this "naughty" she's actually telling us with clear indicators that something is not right, she isn't comfortable with something. I agree 100% a behaviorist is an ideal plan.they can help you get to the bottom of what's going on. Here is a company we highly recommend. These guys are the best! petharmonytraining.com/services/clients/
Two dogs from the same litter also has potential to cause issues - google littermate syndrome, it’s the reason a good breeder won’t sell you two pups from the same litter
My 7 week old pup hates her crate! I am trying your ideas. Tonight I am going to take out bedding. She is crying at night bad. Sure it has been only two nights but I feel bad for her and don’t want to do anything that will make her hate it. 4:58 It is getting cold. Will she get cold? Thank you
This is probably not as much about the cold as it is the comfort in the crate. Do you have a snuggle puppy? A puppy that young could definitely use some company that she thinks is her littermate. Check out this video for some good tips on that: ruclips.net/video/4YdA-71gSkM/видео.html
My dog that passed loved her crate so much! I didn’t research crate trying due to is was easy for her. It had been a long time having a pup. The breeder told me she hated her crate 🥲. 1 st night was horrible! Your video calmed me down!! When you explained what the pup was thinking! She did much better I will continue to work with and watch all your videos! Thank you
Oh no - hang in there! Make sure your puppy is getting both enough physical and mental stimulation during the days to tire him out. These are BOTH very important!
I just got my first puppy ever and I had a larger metal crate at first and put a bed in there. That was 2 weeks ago and now I know that wasn’t a good idea. Now what do I do to reverse this and have him readjust to a smaller crate with no bedding? He already has has a hard time adjusting to a lot of changes bc of things I did that were bad that I didn’t know were bad. Help??
A puppy pen is an area to keep your puppy safe while they can play without giving them too much space in the home. Too much room to roam can lead to accidents or chewing on things they shouldn’t. We want to limit the space a puppy has until they are trustworthy and have learned to hold their bladder or have graduated out of the chewing or destructive phase! Using a puppy pen is a great way to help your puppy stay safe while you are busy with household chores and you can't keep your eyes on them 100% of the time. A puppy pen is not for sleeping and napping. We keep our puppies in a crate for all naps and at bedtime. The space is more cozy and this helps them sleep instead of staying in play mode. This video can tell you about one possible set up for a pen. You may choose to keep the crate in/near it or it's fine to keep it separate too. Crate / Pen Setup: ruclips.net/video/Y6u73XN_rYQ/видео.html
@@HowToTrainADreamDog Thank you so much for the reply! I will watch the video again for sure. Do you think there will be an issue abruptly taking out the bedding in the crate? Should I line it with anything just in case there’s more accidents until he gets adjusted?
It's better to keep it in one spot so the dog gets used to it. You also don't always want the puppy in the same room, as that will not help him/her gain independence.
I wake up at 8 am to get ready for work. Should i feed the puppy at like 5 am so they have time to pee or poop before putting them in the crate before i come home from work?
It will take a little trial and error to find the right morning routine for you and your puppy. But yes, you should get up early enough to make sure the puppy can get something to eat, pee and poo (more than once, possibly!), have some exercise, human engagement, a cool down and then is ready to go back in the crate when you leave. This schedule will need to be adjusted as he/she grows.
It might be but it depends a lot on things like carpeted floor, how she does being isolated, if you can hear her or use a pet camera, how long of a walk it is to the potty spot etc. Give it a try and see how it goes!
@@HowToTrainADreamDog the area is tiled and part of a big master bathroom which is open to my bedroom. I can easily hear him. We would be about 12: feet apart. He was born on a ranch and has been n a stall with his littermates. There are two bifold doors I would keep open it's very open. He could run the whole tiled area easily as a pen area.
This depends on his age, his ability to hold his bladder and his comfort in the crate. Watch his natural schedule carefully to determine those thresholds and then with time and training you can increase his duration in the crate.
Great video! I have a plastic crate that may be too large for the 8 week old pup coming in two weeks. I know a wire crate can be partitioned off to make more size appropriate but what can I to do with an oversized plastic crate? We have a 30-50 Lb size crate but the pup will be 10-12 lb when we bring him home. ( I can't afford another crate.)
This might be a “fine until it’s not fine” piece of advice, but it originally came from a Vet who I know. I told her my crate was too big and worried about not having a divider and she suggested putting a cooler/ice chest in the back of the crate to take up space and prevent puppy from getting to that side of the crate. So I have a metal crate with a 60 quart plastic storage container on one side. My pup is also coming home in about 2 weeks, fingers crossed my crate hack holds up. Good luck.
A crate that is too big or two small can cause discomfort and a negative association with the crate, so it’s important to use the right size. A crate that is too big could result in a puppy that goes to the bathroom in one spot and sleeps in another. Your puppy should have just enough room to stand up fully, turn around and lie down in his/her crate.
This is definitely one of those situations where "It's Fine Until It's Not Fine" applies! DIY crate dividers often do not hold up against curious puppies and could cause injury if the pup tried to squeeze themselves around or by it.
Thanks for this video! Should I have nothing in the crate for my 12 week old so she just lays on plastic floor/base of it? It’s a wire crate because she’s a giant breed dog/pup. Currently have a bed and a cloth pee mat under it. It’s my first night with puppy in crate and second Night having her home.
We recommend NO bedding or pee pads in the crate. It only takes a few minutes of chewing a blanket or pee pad to send a pup to the emergency vet with intestinal blockage - we've seen this happen too many times and want our pups to be safe. Until she is mature enough to have bedding in the crate, we would say to leave it empty. There are also many downsides to pee pads. They will likely become a chew toy and they also send the message that it’s OK to pee in the house or in the crate. This is not a mindset you want for the lifetime of your pup! You should check out our New Puppy Starter Kit (it's free!), it has tons of crate training and new puppy tips: howtotrainadreamdog.com

I have a 14 week labradoodle will not sleep in the crate; takes naps wherever we are. She has a snuggle puppy and a blanket. She barks all night long. When we first brought her home we would get up an let her out around 3am then it was difficult to get her back in the crate; we used a lot of treats. She eats at 6pm and we put her to bed at 11pm. We cover it at night and use the white noise machine. We play about an hour before bed; we use chewing; she goes out 15 minutes before bed. Now we put her to bed and do not get up to let her out. Once in the crate she freaks! We do not know what to do. We have a quiet house with no children. HELP!

Got my 8wk old puppy 1 week ago. Hates the crate. 2nd night he screamed for 3 hours. Took him out and now husband and and I have taking shift sleeping with puppy on couch. Please help. I need a life too. Thank you so much
We don't recommend pee pads, partly because they quickly become a chew toy. They also teach your dog to go potty inside, which is a frustrating habit that can last for the lifetime of the dog.

My Maltipoo is 9months , does it make sense to give him crate training? He never been in the crate, doesn’t sleep in his “house”, comes to my bed night time , this month he is going to be neutered, and it’s scares me to the moon …
Crate training is a life skill. When our pups go to places like the groomer or veterinarian, they're often placed in kennels when they can't be tended to. We wouldn't want their first experience in the crate to be in a stressful environment, as it could cause extreme stress. It will also be helpful if your pup were crate trained so that you can ensure his safety after his surgery! Our pups run the risk of tearing their stitches if they move too much post-surgery, which is why the veterinarian usually recommends crating for at LEAST the first 72 hours, up to 2 weeks.
How To Train A Dream Dog thank you for your response 🙌🏻 is it not too late to train him at 9 months ? Should I follow rules like for the puppy or concentrate more on the training for the adult dogs ?
We do not recommend using puppy pads, even in the crate during the night. The best thing you can do is let your puppy out every couple of hours during the night to go potty outside. Here is the link to our New Puppy Starter Kit, with tips and tricks for potty training. howtotrainadreamdog.com
Hello I have a 13 week old golden and she was initially great with her crate training and was able to get through the night without accidents . My 11 week old pup has been home 4 days…he eats in his crate and goes in happily for naps in the day, first two nights he self soothed but then soiled and last night regressed and became panicked….do I need to start again or stay with him at night?
It can definitely take some adjustment for some puppies to feel comfortable in their crate. This takes time, but mostly training! Through fun training games and positive association, you can help your puppy learn to rest and relax while in the crate. Hi there, thanks for the great video. I have a 10 week old puppy who is great in the crate when I'm around or when he can hear me. He's also fine going into the crate for a nap or when I'm having dinner and I need some time away from him. He will sleep through the night and be great. My issue is that he does not like going into the crate and watching me leave. He will panic immediately and we just had a horrible accident the other day when I left for 2 hours and I would like to avoid that happening again. How can I get him comfortable with me leaving alone? I sense he just wants to be around me all the time and unsure how to proceed. Thanks in advance, I'm happy to pay for a training plan or something for advice also.

Thank you for all your training help! My puppy does great at night time in the crate. During the day is another story. She doesn't like to be in there, even with her food. If I put her in when I know she is ready to nap, she fights the nap. She will whine initially, then settle, maybe doze a little, lightly and when she hears or sees me, begins to whine again. If I leave her in the kitchen that I have gated off, she will nap for 1 1/2 to 2 hours but never in the crate. I am not comfortable going out and leaving her in the kitchen, so I need her to be in the crate. I have not yet left her alone. However, tomorrow I need to. She is 11 weeks tomorrow and has been with us since she was 8 weeks. Any tips? Do I just keep doing when I am doing.

When used correctly with the proper training, crates are like cribs or playpens for babies and toddlers. They are used to keep your pup safe and out of trouble. Crates are the safest place for your puppy when you are away from home. Crates are never used as punishment.
Many dogs spend all night locked in a cage then alot of the day ,it's not in all cases but alot of cases dog abuse ,if you don't have the time to meet a dogs needs then you should not have a dog

@@juliecrowe5252 I only place my pup in his crate from 10-20 minutes max so that he starts getting used to a crate. Personally, I have never been a fan of cages or zoos because of that same reason but it's useful to have your dog crate trained. I appreciate the concern but the comment was unnecessary and uncalled for, next time I recommend being more mindful with ignorant comments such as these.
I haven't really has these problem but I got my puppy when he was 6 months old. I was told he was crate trained and house broken. Neither is the case. Your crate may be too big. Dogs typically don’t like to pee and poo where they rest or sleep. Put a divider in there or buy something smaller but big enough for them to stand and turn around without any problems.
My puppy is doing better with a small playpen in the bedroom and a bigger in the living room. I don't like the shape or feel of the metallic crate, and it's looking like jail time. So I said, forget the crate...!

Thanks so much for these videos, makes me feel like I can get this under control
Good for you! It sounds like you are already putting some of these practical tips to good use. Keep up the good work!
You can start fresh on day 2!
Thank you for sharing!
Here is the link to our course, 30 Days to Puppy Perfection:

Just got a puppy, she is staying in a large laundry room with her crate inside and pee pads in thd opposite area. She cries all night pee on the pee area but poops when she is around the rest of the house.
Getting her a play pen now and hopping she will do better at night.
I got a dog literally off the street. She was a stray and house breaking has been an adventure. I’ve had her for 4 days. I have two dogs who I got from a rescue and were all crate trained.
I did the mistake of place a cushion in the crate she started to peeing on it.
It's not too late, will just take some patience and time! We might be able to help you best at the Pro-Level where you can submit photos and videos in our private student-only facebook group for our trainers to review and give feedback to. You can also have a back-and-forth conversation with them on one of the three zoom calls a week. Check it out here: www.howtotrainadreamdog.com/puppy-perfection-course-learn-more/
My puppy was doing fantastic when we brought her home.

We are sorry to hear of the struggles in the crate. It sounds like you could use a little more guidance. Have you heard of our new mini course on crate training? More than just feeding in the crate, you can do fun training games that teaches your dog to be comfortable in the crate while you slowly increase the length of time he's in there. If he's panicking, then it's time to try something new to help him feel OK in there. We can definitely help you!

We are so glad to hear that! Thanks for watching!
we have had our puppy for 6 days and have only put him in there for sleeping at night. during the day he sleeps where ever he wants. guess i need to start to change that
Yep! It's best to use the crate for all nights and naps at first, to establish it at a place for rest and relaxation.
Yes! We always want our pups to be completely naked when going into their crates. Thanks for sharing!

Had a lot of dogs in my life this is the first time I ever tried to create create the dog he did my going to the traveling case he waited to that one so what did I took them home with their year old baby to see what he would do she went with she do she she would get there or that would it so I have posted them open so she could make up her old white where she wants to sleep she's only a year old
Crate training is such an important skill!

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, that is exactly what I shall do.
Keep up the good work.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching.
our puppy is 8 weeks old and does not want to be in crate or play pane alone :( she start crying ,screaming )we try to let her self soothe and she vomit and did not stop crying we are so lost.

We recommend covering the crate any time your pup is in it! Be sure to leave the front and back of the crate uncovered for proper ventilation.
our first dog were complete opposite he was very easily trained to be in crate and he is creamy become dreamed dog!!!!!

Yes, the Adaptil spray, here's the link howtotrainadreamdog.com/adaptil_spray
I made the mistake of letting my 5 month old.boxer sleeping the room, he sleeps in his crate at first but almost always at 1 am he wakes up and it's hit or miss if he'll sleep quietly in the crate or bark for.hours after his midnight pee break

I work from home and plan to go by your plan for crate training. Is it possible to move the same crate from office during the day to bedroom at night? Will this confuse baby dog? Thank you!
We don't recommend moving the crate. It may be better to get two different crates and apply crate training in both areas!
Thank you so much first of all for responding to me and second for the referral. I definitely appreciate you and all you do! ♥️🙏♥️
Two dogs from the same litter also has potential to cause issues - google littermate syndrome, it’s the reason a good breeder won’t sell you two pups from the same litter
Cat.nip. You’re welcome
Thank you
Michelle, my puppy is over a year old and the issue is that he is not sleeping through the night. We love him to pieces but we are exhausted 😢
Is it okay to move crate from room to room?
I have a big walk in closet that empty off my bedroom. Would that be a good place?
It might be but it depends a lot on things like carpeted floor, how she does being isolated, if you can hear her or use a pet camera, how long of a walk it is to the potty spot etc. Give it a try and see how it goes!
@@HowToTrainADreamDog the area is tiled and part of a big master bathroom which is open to my bedroom. I can easily hear him. We would be about 12: feet apart. He was born on a ranch and has been n a stall with his littermates. There are two bifold doors I would keep open it's very open. He could run the whole tiled area easily as a pen area.
how long should I leave the dog in the crate?
This depends on his age, his ability to hold his bladder and his comfort in the crate. Watch his natural schedule carefully to determine those thresholds and then with time and training you can increase his duration in the crate.
Great video!
I have a plastic crate that may be too large for the 8 week old pup coming in two weeks. I know a wire crate can be partitioned off to make more size appropriate but what can I to do with an oversized plastic crate? We have a 30-50 Lb size crate but the pup will be 10-12 lb when we bring him
home.

It’s my first night with puppy in crate and second
Night having her home.

Do your training tips apply for a 1-2 year old dog?
You can always use these tips for older pups, but they're recommended for pups under 6 months.
Can you use a slip collar for a puppy for quick outside trip?
We recommend using a normal collar that is already attached to a regular leash!

HELP!

How early can you start training a puppy where they start retaining what you are teaching them? 8 weeks, 10 weeks, etc...
You can start training your puppy after bringing them home, which is ideally between 8-10 weeks of age.
How do get your dog from ripping up the pee pad

Hi....I have a question, do we put under-pad/ training pad in the crate during the night?
We do not recommend using puppy pads, even in the crate during the night. The best thing you can do is let your puppy out every couple of hours during the night to go potty outside. Here is the link to our New Puppy Starter Kit, with tips and tricks for potty training.

What do i do when my puppy peeing in the crate while crying? I have to clean the crate every 2-3 hours in the night? The crate is the right size.
These accidents are likely a stress response. It sounds like your puppy needs some more work to feel comfortable in the crate. Our new crate training mini course can help you! courses.howtotrainadreamdog.com/crate-training-course
Can they crate train without a crate just in a small enclosed laundry?
Sometimes a small room is acceptable, however, you may run into your puppy finding things to put in their mouth! This could be a hazard to them.
@@HowToTrainADreamDog There's no hazards, just floor & walls, very clean 👍🏼
Dog training and workout videos have to be the easiest things in the world to make because it's all it depends content...
We love creating dog-training content, we've helped countless people through this channel!
@@HowToTrainADreamDogI know this helps people, workout channels do the same thing. I'm just saying, people coming to videos to get answers aren't looking for, "well it depends." It is not a slight on you, feel free to do whatever makes you happy. I just find it amusing that when trying to find information on these two topics you find a lot of it depends solutions that really amount to just talking in circles for 10 minutes plus.
My puppy is 10 months old and no closer to being housebroken. We have been using a crate for off and on throughout the day. We are so desperate we are considering a very expensive dog trainer who said he would come in for 3 hours in May. I just feel like she is not very smart. It feels hopeless.
Hang in there! Here is the New Puppy Starter Kit which has a potty training lesson and bell training lesson included! There’s a free video lesson and a sample puppy schedule, as well as a potty training troubleshooting document that is 10 pages!

We have a play pen attached to a crate for when I’m working from home but every time we leave her she is crying and howling for hours 😣 any advise would be amazing ? X
Until your puppy gets used to their new surroundings and routine, she may cry for attention. You’ll need to determine if all her needs have been met. This video can be helpful for figuring out what might be missing: ruclips.net/video/7tVJSbcHJVw/видео.html

It's a cage for a dog ,if they enjoyed it they wouldn't need to be trained to go it it Dogs should not be kept in cages
We definitely recommend keeping your pup in the crate any time you are gone. This is the safest place! Check out our other video on crate training tips: ruclips.net/video/rnMFXmzh_Cc/видео.html
@@juliecrowe5252just because you believe in something doesn't make it right for everyone .as stated should we not have children because we put them in a play pen . Its a safety issue. Not a punishment. I can't strap my 11week old puppy on my back. I mean no disrespect toward you, just see it differently take care
I recently got a puppy and we've been trying to do crate training but he always cries. I've tried getting in with him, giving him treats and toys to see if he can get used to it but he always cries and I take him out when it becomes too much. What am I supposed to do to get him used to the crate at that point?
This might be something we could help with at the Pro-level of our online course. In Module 1, we have several videos that contain crate training tips and games for building your pup's confidence. Here is the link to the course: www.howtotrainadreamdog.com/puppy-perfection-course-learn-more/
He cries because he is locked in a cage , if you went to a zoo and saw all the animals locked in small cages they would be closed down 'yet loads of dogs are locked in for hours at a time ,they should if you must only ever be used for very short amounts of time
@@juliecrowe5252 I only place my pup in his crate from 10-20 minutes max so that he starts getting used to a crate. Personally, I have never been a fan of cages or zoos because of that same reason but it's useful to have your dog crate trained. I appreciate the concern but the comment was unnecessary and uncalled for, next time I recommend being more mindful with ignorant comments such as these.
@@HowToTrainADreamDog Thank you so much, I appreciate the help. I'll look into the course right away.
I haven't really has these problem but I got my puppy when he was 6 months old. I was told he was crate trained and house broken. Neither is the case. Or he was flown to NY from Fla and got traumatized in the crate during the flight. He would panic and freak out in the crate to the point of true panic and I had to get him medication. My problem is, he always poops in his crate, no matter if he had gone before going in, he refuses to go in on his own unless he wants to potty. So I need help
We are here to help! In Module 1 of our course, we have several videos that help with crate training, including confidence building games you can play with your pup to help him love the crate. Here is the link to our course, 30 Days to Puppy Perfection:

Your crate may be too big. Dogs typically don’t like to pee and poo where they rest or sleep. Put a divider in there or buy something smaller but big enough for them to stand and turn around without any problems.
My puppy is doing better with a small playpen in the bedroom and a bigger in the living room. I don't like the shape or feel of the metallic crate, and it's looking like jail time. So I said, forget the crate...!
