    13:44 The use of plastic corrugated plates between them is a common and effective method in Japan. However, it is less common in Europe and the UK.

    I've had my koi pond for 30 years. I used to use the fertilizer tabs in my lilies. I haven't used them in at least 10 years. They grow like crazy with just the nutrients they get from the water. One has completely came off the mother plant and is floating just in the water. It's also growing like crazy. The pads actually stand above the water about 10".

    Hi Mel, love your videos and I have a few comments I’d like to make so sorry if it gets lengthy. I don’t consider myself an expert but after attending the school of hard knocks I have learned some simple truths. First off have you considered a sieve filter before going into your Mountain Tree filter. Looking at just how much muck was in there after 3 days is a LOT. Understandably since you have so many fish. Sieve filters are an easy DIY and require little to clean. It’s a pre filter and will greatly reduce your cleaning. As for the matts themself, I use the Amazon ones and have had no issues. I do however use batting on top of the matt. This gets out about 90% of the fine particulates. My water is so clear you almost think there isn’t any lol. Granted mine is nowhere near your size but the same principals apply. I don’t use UV lighting. To me they are a waste. Expensive and limited life span as well as killing stuff you actually want. I’ve tried to keep my pond more shaded. I used to have white LED on at night. Changed to green, what a difference. With the proper eco system and lots of plants I have very little algae and never put chemicals in. As for your lilies, I used those tabs when I put them in at first but haven’t used a thing now for years. There is enough nutrients to keep them thriving. I get great growth and flowers. I do have one that the Koi seem to be really nibbling away though so it will get moved too. I’ve tried something new this year. I cut way back on feeding the Koi. Only every 3rd day. This encourages them to eat stuff from the bottom. Even what algae forms on the rocks. Plus they get so excited when I come to feed them. They about jump into my arms lol. With this they do tend to nibble on plants more. What you did moving them is a good idea. I have several plants I will move now move too. My cannas are going bonkers and need moving as well. Mother Nature is providing everything needed in my pond. Took a long time getting there and I hope between us we can help others from learning the hard way. Great vid as always . Much ❤️❤️

    Yeah but I think it depends on how you view it. The Blue mat allows for more fine water polishing which might be desired for pond while the Green could be used as an initial filter media since it is more porous. The thicker mat will obviously impede flow if used as an initial layer of filtration after the brushes. I think it is more a matter of what stage of filtration you are looking to use each one at.

      Oh I totally get it but it was geared more towards the beginner hobbyist everything you’re saying to me makes sense but most if not all beginners use this leading brand of filter pad and only this pad 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🙏🏽💯

    Why don’t you use the same type of filter density instead of the way you did. Of course the denser filter will load up faster . Why don’t you use the Matala green filter mat vs your Mountain Tree green filter mat. This would be a better comparison since they are pretty much the same density. Usually the green mats are used for large debris filtration followed by a denser filter mat, and that mat is then followed by an even denser filter along with a U V filter. That’s how you can get your water to stay clear. But what I have noticed is now that your pond has been up a running for a while now, the pond water clarity has been compromised and is a bit cloudy most likely due to free floating particles in your water. It’s too bad your pond filter video is misleading and just an infomercial for Mountain Tree. Remember the denser the filter the more particulate it will filter out and will clog faster than a filter with a looser weave.

      The reason in used that filter pad is because it’s one of the most popular that people buy especially new people to the pond hobby, most people don’t know what you know, also people tend to get confused with all the different levels of mats and their purpose it’s much easier to have one and not have to worry about, my pond for the most part has its super clear days and some not so clear days but what’s most important is my water quality stays consistent and healthy for my fish, the clarity is a bonus, I’m merely helping people and showing them examples and difference the most popular “sold” filter mat and Amazon and EBay is like compared to MT spiral filter mats, my MT Filter has been running for over a year 8,500 gallons with over 40fish zero casualties due to bad pond water I’ve had a spawn with baby koi, fish are putting on size and colors are beautiful my fish are thriving..🤙🏽♥️💯🙏🏽

    What’s the point of having good bacteria in the filtration if the UV light gonna kill it before it flows down to the pond/tank

    • @HaYNFishKeeper
      @HaYNFishKeeper  Месяц назад

      It’s not gonna kill it all it just helps a little with clarity

    Hay just an idea what If you added another box inbetween the green filter mats and the bio filter of the blue filter mats??
