Truly one of the most freighting and atmospheric scores ever composed for a horror movie. Brilliant.
in space noone can hear you scream... alien , aliens , prometheus, covenant.. master pieces
Jerry took one day to compose the original, beautiful but menacing main theme. The film version with atonal sounds took him only five minutes!

But i was unsure whether to add him too, as he died long before them!

Ridley Scott and His Editor Terry Rawlings took out Jerry’s score at the end…and put in Hanson music…after Jerry Goldsmith had rewritten the cue a few times.

I like alien movie
Moral of this movie to the universe: Do not mess with Sigourney Weaver.
No credit given to Gustav Holst. The start of the soundtrack is a identical copy of his opus ‘Saturn’ of his composition ‘the Planets’ which he wrote between 1914-1918.
Still, a great soundtrack but if you like this, you are going to love The Planets. Youll find a lot of movie material stems from this masterpiece.

Still looking for the original score to be released. Only have it on isolated track on dvd/ blu ray but you need to skip through the movie to the cues😳
Ummm......Intrada Records released the complete original Goldsmith score over 10 years ago. It's available on RUclips. Unless you mean the 'score' as it appears in the film, which is also available on RUclips.

Such a fabulous suite and score. I can see the scenes as it plays.
For me Alien (1979) stands alone. it does not include the ridiculous Promethhesus series, Predator or AVP. In the retro world of Alien, there was never any internet or mobile phones developed, the Soviet Union never fell in 1990-1991, Japanese corporatism took over the West. Technology remained big and bulky CRT and cassette tapes were the norm well into the 22nd century. The 21st century as well as later centuries in the retro 1970-80s Alien universe, it was dominated by corruption, greed and corporatism.
Like many Alien fans, I utterly hate the Prometheus films, in no way is that franchise canon to the original four Alien films. it is not possible. the original four were a rather grim and dark used future, and the Alien film on the Nostromo shows how bad it is, the ship is dirty, oppressive with a 1970s style crew that are somewhat selfish, and just trying to made a life in a bad world. The viewer can only imagine what Earth and the colonies are like, but what the viewer gets is a sense of oppression rather than paradise.
Totally agree! A cinematic masterpiece from a visionary director. The 'engineers' from the Prometheus series was just absurd pseudo quasi religion nonsense that, in my opinion, was the final nail in the coffin that started with Alien 3. On every level, Alien was so ahead of its time and stands on its own. I doubt there will ever be another film that took the genre into a new direction and was never equalled to the this day..(if that makes sense:)
