When you see the newest Predator films, you realize how good it was this one with its amazing music. It is just incredible!!!
To be fair, 2010's PREDATORS was a good film.

@@tctyt YES! Just "composing" (more like phoning in) the same score every time, regardless of subject. Yet I see youngsters praising Zimmer as ThE gREaTeSt CoMpoSeR eVeRRRR and think "Oh kid, go educate yourself on 20th Century film and tell me you still think that in a few years."
Listen to this almost every day. Very motivational to hear this. Have a bad back and both hips are shot. Lots of pain non stop but I always remember when Dutch and Dillion were pulling the ropes attached to the trees. Helps me think about the time when I was relevant. Great music!

In 1987 director John McTiernan had his first global success with “Predator”, starring action legend Arnold Schwarzenegger. The director continued that genre successfully with other hits like the “Die Hard” series, or the very entertaining “Last Action Hero”, also starring Schwarzenegger. For “Predator” McTiernan consulted a rising star of the film music business: Alan Silvestri. Both, working seriously on “Predator” got their awards: The filmmaker got lifted to an acknowledged (action) director and Silvestri, besides earning much reputation, literally winning awards for his score, that supported the movie remaining what it is today: a classic. Intellectual movie snobs guffaw about this film, but its soundtrack and story action are through the original roof.
I saw it in theaters at age 5 on my birthday after my family and I had my party at one of the showbiz pizza places then went to the theater next door when we lived in St. Louis
That drum (or whatever) motive that weaves through the film: haunting.
Building the trap is such a perfect atmosphere for that scene, that sense of a rational wrestle over fear and anger when preparing to confront the overwhelming threat.

The Greatest ever ensemble /symphony/BGM /whatever ! The Greatest Movie that boasts perfect casting, dialogues, stunts, editing,cinematography,production designing ,direction and ofcos the best screenplay ever that keeps u hooked from the start to the end !! There might be several other movies that excel in select departments but not all like this ensemble achieved ! Kudos John Mc Tiernan, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Alan Silvestri !! Watched my first time in 1987 and couldn't stop eversince !
Exceptional composition by Alan Silvestri with an equally exceptional sound recording that brings it to levels of excellence that I have rarely had the opportunity to listen to. I was so enthusiastic that I use this recording to test stereo systems in all audible and dynamic ranges. Fantastic!!
Hats off to Alan Silvestri this sounds fantastic! The sound of a real orchestra with brilliant dynamics...I hope the future of big budget movie soundtracks isn't all sample libraries played via a computer. Real people playing real instruments shouldn't be completely replaced. 🎵🎶🎵

The Story, the Cast, the Action, the Script, the Music, the Alien - 100% and above. Probably the GAMAT, the Greatest Action Movie of All Times. A cult movie on a par with the Matrix which is highly philosophical on top of being an action movie and of course the Terminator. Now that I think of it, isn't the Predator the coronavirus pandemic of fear of an "alien" killer, the Matrix the ongoing NWO dictatorship that is hunting the dissenters, and the Terminator the coming A.I. and 5G revolution?

When I First saw this movie I believe on Video Tape I fell in love with Alan Silvestri's Score. This has got to be one of the best he has ever written. I can't even remember how many times I've played the CD but it has been a lot. It's also one great movie in my opinion. Thanks Fred for another great choice in choosing this great score as usual to upload. Out.

@@videowilliams That Gave Me Goosebumps! So happy a critic took time to mention the score and in particular that part. They play it when Mac is sitting next to his fallen comrade Blain and he's reminiscing about their mercenary days too if I recall correctly.

For the original Predator they did some kinda film look effect, and managed to build a LUT that really emulated the whole photochemical look. Whatever algorithm they used to get that optical printer halation effect was very well designed. 🤔

I'm trying to find the music used when the predator sees something in ultraviolet. It was used in Prey as well when the predator is tracking that wold or dog or whatever. Anyone know?

Anyways is amazing music in a very good film when manly movies still exists. Arnold was the best for this role. Epic and classic.

feels like a goldsmith-score. some alien, some first blood.
Although I like Goldsmith's work this has original features untypical for Goldsmith. He was still an old class melodic film composer. Sure 1970's had an influence on his work and made it more expressive, richer, but what Silvestri does here is a reliance on strange repetitive motives accentuated with percussion laden orchestration. What he does harmonically I cannot tell but the whole fragmented structure stands as a unified whole. Therefore various compilations such as this one can be extracted and put together. What's striking is a complete sense of suspense, of things going certain way. I am more for long Goldsmith (original Alien score, discarded by director) or Poledouris "concert" pieces meeting directors of similar sensibility but this concentrated packed approach finds its perfection here. It seems like it was a unique place in time where rookie director and composer let their ideas fly and any outward restriction was there just to limit the boundless spring of inspiration. Themes are 1980's, guys executing stuff 1980's too, but the execution and talent are in originality the best of recently deceased New Hollywood.
