The original score for Alien is a very intriguing soundtrack; which is melodic, oddly uplifting, and hopeful, yet also very alien, creepy, and unnerving all at once. Jerry Goldsmith is one of the titans of cinematic scoring.

Joel Goldsmith, Jerry's son, was pretty great too. He's probably best known for his work in the Stargate franchise.
