I have preserved many antlers in velvet. I get a dog comb, and sharpen the tips, and perforate the velvet all over the antlers. I then I stand them up on the skull plate and pour white gas (Coleman lantern fuel) all over them. It breaks down the blood and drains it out the bottom. I do this several times allowing the gas to fully evaporate between applications. In the end there will be no fumes and it will last a very long time. The last antlers I preserved was 20 years ago and they look perfect. This will work for any antlers in velvet and is much safer to work with than formaldehyde.
