The very, very best part of Steve Rinella's Meateater series is the respect he and his group of hunters show the animals they harvest. There is no fist pumping, yahooing juvenile display. That majestic animal has just died, its life taken from it. I have not seen an episode where the hunter(s) have not shown a profound introspection of the moment and what it means.
True. They are almost sad standing there looking at that beautiful animal…I know I would be. It’s important to understand where your food comes from and what it entails to harvest it.
Absolutely agree. Deep respect to these hunters. They act in a profound and dignified manner, respecting the life they have just taken. It would be a pleasure to hunt alongside such gentlemen. Well done and happy hunting!
This is a bad take people express differently definitely seen a fist pump or two on this channel. Stop letting your insecurities make judgments on peoples happiness
It's great for so many reasons. There is so much to take away from this single episode. Much respect and admiration for what they made here.
I hunt for a living and have been hunting since I could hold a gun. This isn’t just some hobby I took up because I had some money and read some texts or watched some podcast and felt inspired and inclined to harvest wild game. This is something I was born into and have loved every bit of it and every experience. If you’re not excited and you don’t want to take your opportunities seriously then you should be a bird watcher or a photographer. You all are fairies…
I love the idea of them seeing a perfect bull to harvest and just not wanting the moment or the experience to end till the opportunity passes. So perfect!
Agreed. I've done this once in my life. I passed up the largest bull caribou I've been in range of, I let him pass for no reason other than he looked majestic and felt the need to let him live.
I agree. Hunting shouldn't be about the spread or points of antlers. He passed on a dominant male that is going to continue to breed for likely years. Hunting should be about food and using as much of the animal as possible.
Am I on lunch break? Yup.
Is there a new meateater episode? Yup.
This is an old episode though...i remember Doug weighing in heavy years ago😂
@@anonymousf454 i sure did
@@sharingtheland Lol
The way you respect the animals and the land is why I keep watching. You are a hunter through and through.
Great day when you can relax and watch good ole meat eater eh boys
I love watching MeatEater. This and watching Bill Dance are nothing better, in my opinion. Thank you for the great content.
I would love to see a video of steve's bookshelf and suggested readings. The beauty of Alaska and the majesty of those caribou bulls is awesome. And you have to respect the grizzly.
This is probably my favorite meat eater episode I've ever seen! What a true adventure!
Doug not shooting that bull demonstrates how much of a sportsman he really is.
Mark shot a TANK of a caribou
And Steve... Well Steve never ceases to amaze me on what we can eat off of an animal.
Soundtrack on this ep was awesome
Having a busy day at work but then a new Meateater episode comes out…guess I know what I’m doing for the next 25 minutes
This Meat Eater video is excellent. I've done what Doug did when he saw that first caribou bull. Only I've done it a few times over the years with a couple of moose. Sometimes it just feels right to simply observe and bask in the moment of being there instead of being the hunter.
Part 1 is in the books !!! Can't wait for the next parts !!!
I wonder if Mark got in trouble for wearing Sitka gloves. Lol
Lots of Sitka clothes on the one guy.
he is in more than sitka gloves ..this was his introduction to meateaater and a trip that was on short notice. he was likely still under contract with sitka...in one clip you can see that they put tape over one of the logos on his jacket
My least favorite part about these episodes is that they end.
Doug is one of my favorite people!
If you have to adhere to very strict weight limitations to board the bush plane, how do you calculate the flight back with all that caribou meat? That said, another exciting hunt. Thanks again, Steven!
They typically require a seperate flight for meat
Loved the music choice at 2:30
First 19 seconds of video wins it. Its all about the food! Period
Yes. this was very well done. thank you. Montana. :-)
Doug not taking the shot makes me like him that much more for some reason!
Much love from San Francisco CA
This is one of your best episodes. Much respect.
Great episode.
God bless you guys.
I can't wait to go back to Alaska.
The show always makes me hungry
This brings back fond memories of a caribou hunt I did. They are one of the best animals to eat. The fat behind the eye does taste like dough
Doug's gonna need the full length of that runway. lol
In belgium we have roe deer populations with densities of 269 per square mile (one deer per hectare).
A couple of buddies and I did exactly that same hunt on the 40 mile herd a few years ago. Utterly amazing. Thanks for posting!
What does an unguided hunt like this typically cost? I’m not from the US, so I have no idea
@@TrolloTV If I remember correctly it cost $3000 per person for drop off and pick up in a Super Cub. We hunted alone with no guide.
@@healerf18 thanks! Its probably a longer flight then, right?
What time of year did you go? I’m goinglast week of august first week of September up past brooks range and didn’t know what the weather will be like?
Steve, I swear you did the fat behind the eyeball trick in a deer in The Missouri Breaks long so.
Amazing hunt guys congratulations 😊 Wait to see the next part😊
Emojis are gay
Doug has not lost the zest for life.
A lot of hunters who only get 2-3 animals a year, won’t understand the ‘not pulling the trigger’. When you KNOW that something will present itself later, the small moments becomes so much slower and easier to take in the details. And likewise a nature observer won’t understand how much more beautiful something is to the view when they CAN kill something (with the perfect shot presented), but don’t.
I don't think you give us much credit. I always enjoy watching animals, wherever I am and whatever I am doing, regardless of my intentions toward them.
Geez that's a big man he had to stuff his big self n that plain😂😂
I’m from Wisconsin too
Coincidences are REALLY weird things… this is from 2017. I only know that because I put the meat eater podcast on shuffle and got this EXACT episode on the podcast after watching it. I checked the episode and it said October 2017.
I have been listening from the beginning and was thinking the same thing. Still great to see nevertheless
Love Doug. That is all.
I’m surprised Mark didn’t name it before he pulled the trigger.. jk though, what a cool experience. Congrats, Mark- hell of a bull 🤘🏼👍🏼
I remember listening to the podcast from when they were on this hunt...they named a bunch of them actually. Fabio was one of the names I recall
"280" would be a good nick-name. 😂 👍
Tried the eyeball fat on my whitetail buck last season. Tasted like dough. 👍
Great info!
What a beautiful animal……
is this not an old episode? imma watch anyway
Great video as always , thanks for letting us go hunting with you
Surprised you let that guy wear Sitka clothing in one of your videos. 😅
Doug is a beauty
I wonder how far they can see and smell you from it looks pretty wide open, also I wonder why they don’t have any calls maybe to grab there attention great hunt this was awesome
Caribou have poor eyesight and being a herd animal they don't really have calls, when you are close to them you can hear them grunt but that's mostly when they are in a herd and grazing.
Nice hunt....We do similar with behind the eye ball fat on moose. We so a moose head stew. In the intoior of Ak.
Awesome 😎👍👍
i would so love to do a hunt like this but it seams only obtainable to people with lots of money .
also it would be great if on some of these you could tell us what caliber you use or your friends im think on lines of 300 WM or 7mm or bigger i have the weatherby 30.06 i love but think out there might need to go bigger
Yup. Just what I thought. "All hunters are just bloodthirsty carnivores."
We are not that. We care about nature. More than you.
Was watching this while doing environmental engineering homework. 2 sides of the same coin
Our great grandfathers hunts with emense respect of nature. They didn't exploit the nature but after the British Invasion of North East India, Nagaland.
And the forcefull occupation of Naga Hill by India, we now have rarely sees even birds due to exasive hunting by our own people due to article 371a indian Constitution.
But there are some district and places we have seasonal hunting where i too still involve and do follow traditional hunting and ritual....
Watching Steve satisfies me, as a Mongol descent i can see the ethical hunting in his blood. May be he was a mongol descent in his past life. Amen!..
New sub here🙋🙋🙋
Steven...your cardio rating on a treadmill(at the hospital) must be so so so high in its effectiveness.
I love your content, Visit Kenya soon.
I don't think Steve will do an Africa episode. The shitstorm caused by activist groups would be too big.
@@user-gx9nm6cr1s you're right; fishing at least 😭
Man it looks beautiful to be there but honestly this doesn't really seem like hunting , 50,000 animals lol , if I'm going all the way to Alasks it's gonna be for Moose or Elk or Grizzly or even Wolf
Does no one else think that guy he’s hunting with looks like Leo DiCaprio 🤔
I guess if your over 280# your out of luck unless you can find a bigger plane. The grazing must be very good for the caribou to have all that fat Steve.
These need to be 2x as long.
Has anyone tried Dryshod boots? Im looking to upgrade what I wear now
That first guy WHOULD NEVER EVER EVER go hunting when he cant take care of his own GOD GIVEN carcass.
What rifle do you use
They’ve been running older generation Savage 110’s in these recent episodes (including this one).
In other seasons they’ve used mostly Weatherby Vanguards/Mark V’s.
Not sure the caliber in this episode, but Steve is known to use 7mm Rem Mag.
Hunting is all 50/50 lol I've been skunked so many times deer hunting 😅
I hope the pilot did his weight and balance on that Cub, cos i bet the COG was way back...
So if you’re barely making weight on the planes on the way in how do you make weight on the way out with 3 caribou? Do they factor that in?
Take my money I’m going next year then you see the grizz 😮
Watch again for ending at a different time.
What Sitka jacket was that fella wearing?
Marks wearing a Sitka jacket?
Are these re runs or new episodes? Sometimes they look familiar to me…
How do you get the meat back if there’s crazy limits on weight ?
What is the make and model of that knife you used to skin that caribou out??????
💪🏽🇺🇸🏹
Muito bom, mais melhor se fosse traduzido pro português
Man, I was hoping there would be a cooked meal after the hunt
Why not a 4k upload?
I liked caribou meat. It taste like calf liver to me.
WHen can we SEE and ENJOY more of the fine cooking of wild meats you do so well???? BTW...respectfully could I suggest you have a retiring career in running your own restaurant when you dont wanna go into the bush anymore: I truly sense a creative well of cooking skills that you could give humanity.....just sayin'
what about Zombie Deer Disease ?
How’d they get the meat back with all the limits on the plane?
call in another plane???
they make trips
How is this being presented by The US Border Patrol? Am i missing something? Is it a joke i am not getting?
Those caribou enter the United States illegally from Canada.
What caliber?
Why can't you hunt on the day you fly ?
Alaska fish an game laws ...most people fly in they don't want you to be tempted to take shots from the plane
No that’s not why, they don’t want you to shoot the day you fly in because you could easily scout animals so once you land you know exactly where to go.
@@maurocruz2421exactly.
What kind of knife are you using ?
It's a Benchmade knife they sell on meat eater they are amazing. I also use the Havalon Piranta knife they use it's pretty much a razor.
Why is not legal to hunt on the day you fly?
"Eyebalfa"
Once you shoot your just a dude carrying everyone else’s sh.t around. 😂
I’ll pass on the eyeball fat.
🇧🇷👍
At least Doug is 280lb and good looking! Imagine being 280lb and ugly 😂😂😂
You should go bear hunting with James Hetfield.
got to love youtubers putting more commercials then the tv does thats sad
Note to you, pull out your wallet, buy RUclips premium, shut up and support the people making the content. If you're against doing so, go out and experience these moments irl.
@@michaelchase418 That is a massive waist of money. Skip to the end of the video, let the last 10 seconds play out, then hit replay. No more ads. Maybe one toward the end. Don't give Jtube your money.
Algorithm defeated
What was the time between drop offs and who was first to land?
Brought to us by the "US Border Patrol"? Don't see that every day....
Why is it illegal to hunt the day you fly?
Probably using the plan to scout the herds
Plane*
The dude who killed the caribou should work at a funeral home LOL I mean the guy is on a trip of a lifetime to most of us yet he's acting like somebody shit in his Corn Flakes
lol get over it you can roll in the grass if that’s what makes you happy.
Is it just me or did this episode had a sad undertone to it?
Am I just losing my mind or is this a repeat?
Steve needs facial hair
