    Steve silently handled Doug’s kill perfectly. The experience as a hunter to appreciate the significance for Doug. The experience as a show host to recognize the magic of the moment.

      I’m the complete opposite to a weird degree. Getting to my spot, listening for twig breaks, looking for flicks of an ear or whatever else can give a deer away, that whole time I’m shaken and on edge. As soon as an animal pops out I’m still as can be. Honestly I wish it was the other way around, makes for some loooong sets!

    EXCELLENT camera work catching the adrenaline hitting Doug after the shot. It's a real thing!
    To people who have never hunted, it really is a hard emotion to describe. Doubly so when you are on such a special trip that not everyone gets to do. There is happiness, of course, for the success but there is sadness. This might sound weird because the whole point was to go hunt and kill an animal but the taking of a life that has known more freedom than we will ever know, well it effects a person. It's a combination of sadness and respect for the life you took.

    • @CrashedmyCBR929rr
      @CrashedmyCBR929rr 2 месяца назад

      That's right. This is still my favorite episode for sure because of Doug's reaction. And you nailed describing that flood of emotion that comes as part of the identification of taking that shot and that life.

      You nailed it. After my first hunt, I didn't go again for over 30yrs. And I've only hunted three times since. I stopped fishing nearly 40yrs ago after realizing the fish didn't have nearly the fun I had. It affects everyone, some of us more deeply than others.

    I love watching Meateater and I sat down to watch this before going to move a trail camera here in WV.
    3 things in this vid really made me appreciate Meateater even more.
    #1) The look Doug had after getting his caribou. You can tell it REALLY meant something to him, not just a kill.
    #2) When Steve and Mark take off after Steve's and Steve says, at least the least we'll see new ground.
    #3) When Mark says, that out there, you realize how small you are.
    Great video, congratulations and hopefully Meateater carries on for years!!!!
