I have to imagine that out of all the "celebrity" hunters out there, Remi must be seen as the best on the Mountain. Its like the dude was built in a lab. A historical depth of knowledge and "ultimate generalist" mindset of Rinella, the VO2 max of Cam Hanes and the global hunting and outfitting experience of Jim Shockey. Not to mention that the couple times I met him, he seemed like a genuinely good guy. Like Randy Newberg level of nice.
Maybe its Rinella who has the ultimate generalist mindset of Remi, cam hanes got the VO2 max of Remi and Jim shockey the global hunting and outfitting of Remi. And Randy Newberg is geniunely good guy just like Remi
Hey Steve! I’m 73 yo, and every time I watch your videos, my first reaction is, “Steve you lucky bastard!”….but then I realize just how hard you have worked for 20+ years to get to this level, and know in my heart that it’s not about luck at all. God bless you and yours, and thank you for all the wonderful things you have done for us!
Best content on RUclips. I’ve had a shitty day, drove 1.5 hours one way just to have my blood pressure taken and schedule an appointment to see if the lump on my neck and head is cancer or not, currently unemployed because I worked with my father and since my mother passed two years ago my dad has gotten a new girlfriend, a control freak who has drove a wedge between him and the family and he recently stopped working me so I’m broke and my four year old daughter’s birthday is next weekend and I have nothing to give her, it’s currently 8:15, thundering and lightning and I am beat but meat eater just dropped a new episode with Steven Rinella hunting elk which put a smile on my face. Thanks guys and please pray for me. God bless you all.
Keep on Keepin on!!!! You will get through this tough time!!!! Keep your head up, Stay positive, and remember you aint never out of the fight we call life!!!!
I am very pleased to see that Steve is thoroughly knowledgeable in skinning an animal; in protecting the kill from bears; and most importantly, in being able to prepare meals that exceed many high-end restaurants. … And, that the people he asks to share the hunting experience, are also individuals of really good character. 👍
Went on a 5 day hunt at Raspberry Island in Kodiak for Sitka Blacktail last November. First day got within 70 yards of a herd of Roosevelt cow elks on Afognak
The Meateater Podcast Ep: 85 and 86 with the full crew and still shattered nerves of all involved in the bear attack is amazing to listen to. It just doesn't get any better!
By FAR and not even close, the best two hunters in the industry when you consider production, education, demeanor etc. Thank you Steve (from a Muskegon Native) and Remi, Best guide ever, and whom my best buddy named his Vizsla after.
South African here, yes this made us replicate it too on a hunt in the Kalahari with Gemsbuck heart liver and kidneys. Awsome memory, now you take that same recipe, with the stomach fat and spices, and stuff it into a real sausage casing, that is a true pofadder/puff adder.
My first attempt at poffadder, I decided to cook it in a microwave...😂first time I checked through the glass it looked like a rugby ball. My subsequent efforts have been a lot better
When we were kids we went to the woods to make a fire, cook a hot dog on a stick and get your mess kit all black while heating up Cambell's soup over the flames. Thanks for reminding me.
I saw this episode originally, then I heard Remi's account, several tellings of it, then I heard the podcast. (Maybe my favorite podcast episode) Now watching this again to see the before and after emotions. Dirt tho, lolol, best bar story ever. My biggest take away from listening to it all, bear awareness tactics are working when you don't see bears. Don't get complacent.
Did 10 days on Afognak in October of '21, and that brush was just indescribable. Every step was a jungle gym. It was a truly humbling experience as far as my physical fitness was concerned.
Another great video Steve. Love watching you with Remi and/or Callahan. I love the video with Callahan and the Sow with cubs "can you smell me now", as well as the story of the bear coming into camp and charging a bunch of you guys looking to take your kill. Remi does a great job telling that story. I was surprised you only saw/showed 1 Brown bear, as I know Afognak has some of the biggest Brown Bears anywhere in the world. The food sure looked like a fine reward from that Elk, which also looked like a perfect animal to take-older, injured, and most likely closer to death than birth. Keep 'em coming and always be safe! Thanks again
Take out one of the 2 founders of GBRS group I think that could be a legendary experience: 1 or two former navy seals with the MeatEater on a real hunt !
The moment steve shot and the bull drop, i was clapping alone in the kitchen mesmerised by the hard work of hunting and the pay off. Great job guys! Im looking forward to hunt as well in the future. Amen!
I have to say Steve, as a Michigan born hunter like urself, 1 I'm very happy for u that u made what makes u happy ur job. 2 n so DAMN JEALOUS!! lol awesome brother
The dish is called pofadder … its an Afrikaans prep of liver heart and coriander named after a highly venomous fat snake (pofadder in afrikaans puffadder in english) anyway hopefully you can come hunt in south africa- less cold less rainy & i recon the Nyala is at least as big as that elk but the meat is sweeter and if not then hunt a hippo… you will be as happy eating anything ever again
Odd that this was the infamous 'meat tree' trip where the grizz attacked but they make zero mention of it. I get that it wasnt on film, nor did they want it on film but jeez it would deserve some mention in this edit....
The grizz that came through camp story I know of, the meat tree grizz I have not heard of! In that thick brush it would be awful having a bear sneak up on you
@@jameshooper1422 It was for sure, he only hunted Afognak once and that is where the griz attack was. He talked about in a podcast years ago why they didnt make any mention of the attack in this edit
Puffadder (Pofadder) as well as Tortoise (Skilpad) are both enjoyed on a bbq (Braai) daily in South Africa, our latest Nyala hunt also resulted in those.
I hope you enjoyed the puffadder. We make it every single hunt here in Namibia. Oryx is the best for it. Let me know if you want to come try some. What you made, we call Turtle. Puffadder, we use the colon to stuff with the same ingredients, so it resembles the puffadder snake.
my buddy and i fish in bear country a lot and we take every precaution we can some people have called us crazy but when you got 15 pounds of trout hanging off you and the sun is setting and you've seen signs of bear activity said precautions make you feel a lot better
I now know why I'm depressed, I keep watching you guys hunt constantly and I get to do it for 1 week and then I have to work 70 hours the rest of the year every week. Atleased it's nice to dream.
How does one simply apply and draw several hunts a year that take locals a lifetime to be lucky enough to draw I love hunting shows but I’m starting to see a pattern

I also realise my statement doesnt make much sense, but hey
Remi has no where near the global hunting and outfitting experience of Jim Shockey...Not even close to being in the same school let alone class.
💥👍🎉
Make them both the same age and compare it. Gotta think of where Remi will be by the time he is Jims age. @wcb5890
"When we were kids we used to go out into the woods just to make a fire" 🔥 Hell yeah! 🤘

"I told my parents I'd meet them for dinner!" Classic line to get outta dressing that bull. Haha!
greatest hunting show. don't know who's gonna replace this show ten years from now
That when he should take the show back to Michigan and tree stand hunt or there’s always his kids!!!
Of all places to embrace the suck, it's Alaska. Love it!

Gotta make you jealous watching those fish grilled right by the lake they were caught out of besides jealous , hungry 😊 ❤
Honestly. The wording of the fog unveiling the elk like it was a gameshow. Probably the most midwest thing I've ever heard in my life.

Remi, Janis, Doctor Randall, Spencer and Steve are my favorites in all of Meat Eater.
Two recipes I learnt today from this video, salmon roe on smoked salmon skin and the Puff Adder. I will definitely add this to my list of recipes. ❤️👍
Did you guys actually fall asleep? I’d be waking up to the sound of wind every minute thinking of bears circling camp 😅
