      Tacomaholic does the unifilter also work for the 2015 Tacoma base model

    • @Tacomaholic

      It will work if you have that secondary air pump. A few guys have already said they don't have it but there were older 2nd Gens.

    I just did this Mod except I used a K&N 62-1370. It was a perfect fit. My 2015 has 60k miles and the sponge filter was in similar condition as yours. Thanks for this vid.

    I’m going to be doing this upgrade just because the filter looks better than stock. I am a Toyota technician and I have never had a Tacoma with a secondary air problem unless it got water intrusion into the pump. This is more of a problem on the Tundra because the pumps are in the passenger fender well.

    I really like the way you would talk about something and actually allow us to see what you were talking about. I've watched several of these videos and some of them looks like they were done in a dark garage and no serious attempt was made to let us see exactly what you were talking about.

    I'm a new Tacoma owner, I bought a used one 2011 TRD Sport. I was a Jeep fan but now Tacoma is my ride. I have learned so much from your channel. I watch it all the time to get up to speed on what I don't need to do with my truck. Thanks for making the videos. I tried it and know it isn't easy and is very time consuming. Thanks for the help on behalf of us new owners. I looked and I can't find this on my model; can only assume it isn't there. Will pull the cover off and see if its under there when I get home this evening.

    I ended up ordering the oversized k&n over the uni filter. I used a circular cutting wheel to cut the stock plastic shroud cover to still fit. My taco had 45k miles, and the stock sponge was still in ok(kinda dusty dirty on the inlet side) condition. Looks and sounds cool.

    You need a shield over that filter to protect against dirt and water intrusion when driving in wet weather and I’m sure that new filter is coated with oil and will plug really fast sitting out uncovered and un protected from under hood dust situation like following buddies on dirt roads- just a retired tech two cents for thought

    Yep, I realized this alittle too late on my '12 tacoma. Truck went into limp mode on me and threw a bunch of codes. Needed a new secondary intake pump and injectors. Thanks to a TSB, it was fully covered by Toyota to the tune of over $1800. Needless to say, I just installed this unifilter to prevent this from happening a second time.

    • @AngelGC
      @AngelGC 2 года назад

      Similar story. I replaced my Secondary Air Injection Pump Check Valve a few months ago. And just now started getting a code for the air pump. But with 215k on my Tacoma that filter was gone and all in the fan blades and blocking the outlet hose. Hopefully there’s not more trouble, but we’ll see I guess. Ordering the uni filter right now.

    I love guys when they narrate stuff like this and they start speaking in a cadence. Lol I'm not even a little bit taking anything away from either the gentleman who did the post or the Prudence or validity of this modification. Lots of examples of this, but start watching again from about 7:15. He gets to 7:25 and he says "down with that T21 TORX BIIIIIT ", etc his voice goes up and a little bit drawn out when he says the words "torx bit" And it cracks me up I don't know why lol. I did the mod mind you, it's just like news reporters who draw out the final two words of every sentence. I'm weird. I know....

    Great finding you on RUclips, after putting something like 580,000 plus miles on my 2001 Tacoma, I finally got a newer one I found a 2013 Tacoma and love it due to the fact that I was driving a manual transmission on the 01. I got a lot of good miles out of that one. Hopefully I'll be able to take as just as good care of this one as I did with the last one. The 2001 is still alive and well, I ended up selling it to me mechanic who now uses it as a parts runner truck.
    Question I have did you leave that foam rubber filter inside or did that come out when installing this filter?

    I just checked mine and with 104,000 miles on a 2013 model, the sponge looked fine. No signs of deterioration at all, so I left it for now. With the mushroom-shaped cap, I was able to just pull it off. It's not on there that tight. Still going to do this mod, but I'll hold off for now. The video helped a lot! Thanks for posting this.

    • @Tacomaholic

      Eric, all of the 4cyl Tacomas should have that secondary air pump unit and it's located between your washer fluid res and the left side of the radiator.

    • @patluvsvettes
      @patluvsvettes 6 лет назад +1

      Yep, that's where mine is located. 2.7 liter four cylinder (Toyota calls it the 2TR-FE). It's a tight squeeze getting the left side of the air pump cover off, because it's right up against the washer fluid reservoir, but I was able to do it.
