I have 21 identica army green. Except, 6 speed manual. Love it. Installed Borla exhaust. Rear leaf springs bump stop cushions. Prevent bottoming out. Left stock.
There is something that if you have not done it, I advise you to do it and it is the catalytic protector against theft ... I just bought my tacoma and I made those changes that you did and I put the catalytic protector on it and now I feel better and safe..i love my 2023 "3rd" generation tacoma!!!
Changing the tires is definitely a good idea. I only have a 2020 SR5 4x4 and I went with 265/75R16 in the stock dark grey wheels. I didn't consider different wheels because of cost and they looked great with the cement grey color from the factory. I picked Cooper discoverer AT tires which aren't as aggressive as KO2 but for the camping, gravel roads and stuff I do they are great. Definitely better than the street tires the sr5 comes stock with.
@GrmpaJAlvarez that doesn't seen unreasonable. However I paid about 8% under msrp in 2020 before all the mark up madness existed. I also put 50% of the purchase price down on day one. My truck payment is under $400 so I could do it.
@GrmpaJAlvarez it was a purchase that was planned and saved for over a few years. I drove used cars and beaters for a long time. The Tacoma was my 1st new vehicle. I'm definitely enjoying the the truck tremendously. It's been so good and dependable for me. Hopefully you will have the same experience with yours.
I’m watching this again after picking up my 2023 Tacoma TRD OR Access Cab yesterday (27 January 2024) to see what you really recommended again. My stock tires are the Goodyear Wrangler Territory A/T. I think they are better than the ones you and your buddy might have had stock. As someone else said I am going to get a catalytic anti-theft shield.
Was shopping around for tires for my Dad's work truck and that Discount Tire is great, best Prices in town. Have a Tire Center (used to be a Les Schwab) local to me who wanted $300 a tire for Wild Peaks AT3, mounted and balanced. It was a good thing I had looked up prices, they would not even price match. Got them for $220 mounted and balanced at said Discount Tire have the appointment this Tuesday, my Dad is going to love them.
thanks for the wheels / tires update. I have a 2023 trail edition and am looking to do the same wheel tire setup. My question is do I have to remove the stock mudflaps to make for enough clearance?
Awesome video Jason...thank you for doing in-depth video on the most important mods. Just got my text from the dealer that my Tacoma is headed to transport. Hope to see you on the trails sooner than later in WA.
Looks great! Different strokes for different folks on the sliders, though. Its all about how you build it. Won't be doing a rack on the Bison so no need for steps, and rubbing my leg on them constantly would drive me mad, lol. CBI makes great stuff though!
Hello Jason. Thank you very much, as usual, for your videos. Are you able to say where you purchased your TRD wheels? Did you go direct to Toyota? Thank you for your time.
@@JasonExplainsThings Thank you a ton. I will be sure to check on that. Toyota sometimes does not make things easy, even when you would like to purchase parts.
@@JasonExplainsThings Thank you. That helps me make a decision seeing that tire on stock suspension. I’m going to have 4 installed at Discount Tire today.
Hi, great video. I am looking to buy those wheels. Where did you buy them. When I do a search they all say that it doesn't fit Tacomas. My Taco is white and I am also going with bronze theme.
I have the 16 inch... and I put 265/75 R16... I like more 75... for Offroad... and give the same 32inch thand 17inch with 265/70... but anyway...every one make is choice and thas good
This will be a great series. Unfortunately I won’t be able to watch it because it’s too depressing. I once had a 2008 Tacoma TRD Off Road double cab with a 6-speed and the old school pull type e brake. I traded it in for a Subaru in 2011 for an absurdly low amount. 😭😭😭 not many things I regret more than that.
At the time this was filmed, no. They fit fine. Only issue is I temporarily had a front mud flap that would rub during off-roading/articulating. Without that it never rubbed. I do have a lift now and I'll have a video about that this spring/summer.
Hey my guy, I have another question for those awesome TRD bronze rims. When you had those installed them did you need to purchase an In-Line Speedometer Calibrator too? Also are those on your stock shocks no lift?!?!?! Great video BTW!
Great video Jason. I first found your purchasing video today and will now be going down the rabbit hole haha. I have a 21 Taco limited but may try to get the Pro or Off-road with the upcoming redesign if I like it. What octane are you running and what oil? Your GTI was a great spec as well.
Hey Seth! So I'm currently running 91 octane. Many folks say that's overkill but I find that I'm getting noticeably better gas mileage that way. For oil I haven't done an oil change yet because I'm at 4k miles. But when I do (at 5k) I'll use Havoline PRO-RS full synthetic 0w-20. Full transparency... Havoline is a channel sponsor.
Really helpful video, subbing. I have a 21 TRD Off Road and was actually thinking about getting the same wheel and tire setup. What is the best way logistically speaking not only buy but have them fitted and mounted? Do I ship everything to a local shop like discount tire and set up an appointment? Also thinking about doing the TRD suspension upgrade, any thoughts there?
So I bought the wheels from a Toyota dealership in Oregon and then took them to Discount Tire to buy the tires and have them mounted. DT can get the wheels too but the price was higher. I’ve heard good things about the TRD suspension. It’s essentially a rebranded Bilstein 5100 kit. So you’re paying a pretty large premium to keep your full coverage warranty. But it’s good stuff, it’s just possible to have the same suspension cheaper.
Just ran up on your video and noticed you have the bronze trd wheels. I wanted to ask if you had to add any modifications to make them fit. I’ve got a ‘22 sport and whenever I look up the bronze trd tire, the websites tell me it wont fit with my car. Just curious as I love the look but didn’t know if you had to add anything on to make them fit. Thanks and nice truck!
@@JasonExplainsThings , ok thanks Jason. I drive a lot of gravel roads commuting to and from work so i think it would average what your getting in town.
@@JasonExplainsThings TY. I'm currently looking at an AT Overland Atlas topper/shell but this might be good as a temporary solution while I wait for the order.
CBI is waaaaay overpriced. Nice stuff, but I can never justify the outrageous prices they ask, so I never buy anything from them and never recommend that anyone does. This truck is already exceptionally capable. I too went with the TRD rims and couldn't be happier. I don't need a 10k suspension and some ridiculous tire size to get pretty much anywhere a Yeep can get. Rims, tires, sliders and a good winch will get you very, very far.
All good thoughts. I understand your feelings on CBI. Part of why I enjoy their stuff is the attention to detail and the fact it's all made in Idaho. Another consideration is their design language, so all your additions can match. I also like that they don't loudly brand their stuff. Ironman USA for example is fine, but they brand their stuff in a way I find cheesy. Again though, you're opinion is warranted and I understand it. Another great option for USA made sliders, skid plates, etc is Cali Raised LED. Not as nice (I installed their stuff on my 4Runner), but still very well made and provides great protection. You'll just need to do your own touching up, etc when it comes to the finish.
Agree these are the 2 most important mods. And good for you leaving the trail better!
I have 21 identica army green. Except, 6 speed manual. Love it. Installed Borla exhaust. Rear leaf springs bump stop cushions. Prevent bottoming out. Left stock.

Awesome! I literally posted a video adding one of those yesterday to a 4Runner. 🤣 The Tacoma will get one as well eventually.

I don’t believe so.
Great video. Loving the green/bronze/tan theme!
Weight is critical for these… I try to avoid adding too much metal without first making sure my shocks and absorbers can handle it.
Rock sliders may be going on my Rav4 soon. Would definitely make it easier to access the roof rack.
You don’t need sliders for a rav 😂🤦🏼
nice set up...I noticed that you have also match the color of your seat cover and bed cover...what brand are they and where you buy them...tnx

Hello Jason. Thank you very much, as usual, for your videos. Are you able to say where you purchased your TRD wheels? Did you go direct to Toyota? Thank you for your time.
I bought them from a dealership in Oregon. Careful, some dealers mark up parts a ton.

The soft bed top cover can you share a link about it or share a link about where you got it
There’ll be a future video about it.
Your truck looks great Jason 👍😁
Great video! Did you need to buy different lug nuts & center caps for the wheels?
Hey Monty… so they come with new caps. You can reuse the lug nuts but I got black ones to match better.
I'm getting ready for this wheel and tire combo, to fill the wheel wheel gap on my 2023 Tacoma TRD 4X4 Sport. Is your truck lifted ?
I had a stock TRD off road suspension at the time. It’s lifted now. I plan on a video about this summer. 👍

They’re 4Runner wheels but fit perfectly. I got them from a dealership in Portland Oregon and had them delivered to WA.
Do those tires fit on stock off road tacoma with no lifting ? Any rober while make turns ?
Yes. The truck is one the stock suspension in this video.
Im going to have to check discount tires prices. Cant wait to get KO2s on my 4runner. I got sliders first.
Yeah they were pretty competitive… about the same as Tire Rack.
@@JasonExplainsThings Thank you for taking the time to reply!

No!!!
Great channel. What did this change do to your speedo calculation?
I haven’t done anything to change that… I should do a GPS test to see if it’s off. I only went up one size so I’m guessing it’s close.
Did you have to get new TPMS sensors or were you able to take the ones from stock wheels and put them in the new TRD wheels? Thanks!
I got new TPMS sensors.
@@JasonExplainsThingscare to say which ones you got? Thanks again!
No need for new TPMS sensors. The originals will work just fine. They are programmed to the truck and not the wheel/tire combo.
What seat covers do u have I'm looking for some in that color
They’re Carhartt (made by covercraft I believe). They’re awesome
awesome video thanks
Are You using any type of lift for this 32" tires?

No recalibration since they’re barely oversized. And yes, all stock when I made this video. (Not anymore though 😃)
You might have already covered this from a previous video but, is your tacoma lifted or does is still have stock suspension?
Hey Jason! Can you please Explain the Oregon City HooptieX for us?? Its in like 3 weeks so you should totally register soon.
