Greetings from Taiwan. Thanks for the great video and also thank you for always doing your videos in English and not a mix of English and Hindi. A big help for us CB350 H'ness owners who don't speak Hindi. My H'ness is approaching 5000 km and as I have difficulties finding a shop that can check the valve clearances for me I will probably have to do this myself. I thought there would probably a gasket between the cover and the cylinder block, but from your video I guess there is not. About the tappet tool: is there a specific size for this tool? When I shop around I see different sizes for the square hole in the adjuster.
Thank you for the appreciation. Do not adjust the tappets before 15 k kms unless they are making unusual noise. There is a gasket (a rubber one) which I did not separate as it was good to go. But it is a good practice to have it replaced when you take off the cover. When buying the tappet adjuster tool, tell the guy to provide you with a standard motorcycle tappet adjuster (also known as Tappet Puller). He will understand. Thanks.
@@DipayanBose I don't hear any unusual noises now, but the maintenance schedule says to check at 6000 km, so I still want to open the cylinder head and check for myself. You were right, there is a rubber gasket and I found the part number: 12391k0z900. I could only find one place in Taiwan which carries this part and that is the problem with riding the CB350 outside India: service and parts are difficult to get. I found that ordering from India is also near to impossible. A pity, because the bike itself is a great one. About the tappet adjuster: I found ones that were 3 and 4 mm, but I'll ask for the standard version when I get one (whichever size that is). Thanks for the reply. Keep making these great videos.
How often should this setting be checked? I brought a highness a month ago and just completed the first service. Would it be important to get this checked in my second service? How would one identify usual and unusual noise from the engine? I just found out that air cooled engines are more noisier then water cooled and I think for a newbie like me it would be difficult to identify
Although in the manual it says to check this in 3rd service, however don’t disturb the settings till 25000 kms. But it depends on certain other factors as well. If bad petrol gets burnt in the engine, or bike being ridden very rough, you would find a typical tik tik noise in morning/cold start of the engine. When engine becomes hot it produces certain extra noise a little bit, thats normal. If ever you hear any abnormal noise when cold starting the engine, take it to the service centre and have it checked. Never try to have it done locally. Trust the ASC Guys. As per my personal experience, if you take care of your bike, and use it with love, till 25000 kms, no need to disturb the tappets. Ride safe. Thanks
I won’t say I ride smoothly but again I don’t throttle the hell out of it like a high performance engine. I’m wondering what a normal factory spec Highness Engine would sound like.
Any info on those plastic caps at the bottom front of cylinder fins ? Direct peek at connecting rod and crankshaft ?? Since you opened the cam cover did u investigate how the decompression works on this machine. This thing has auto decompression somewhere built into the cam.
This has been an extremely informative video. My concern is I have the same bike and I feel that adjusting the tappet somehow dropped my average while driving in Bangalore city. I feel that the engine is heating up more than usual. Is this natural or should I take it to the company service center and fix it? P..S. I had once adjusted the tappet to the default factory settings but I still hear noise from the engine. Could you please guide me on what I can do to resolve these issues?
Tappets could be a cause of overheating or improper fuel milage. Since you have adjusted it once, I would suggest take it to a good mechanic, have it checked again. check it when the engine is cold to touch.
hey@@DipayanBose thanks for the reply. I just have one general question i.e. is it actually recommended to go to a local service person for valve clearance or is it better to get it fixed from bigwing service? Because I feel there are lots of intrinsic measurements involved and I am not sure whether a local service centre can actually fix these kind of issues. Also would love to know where you got your valve clearance done. I reckon you mentioned that it was done by your friend mechanic. I just wanted to know whether you guys are based in Bangalore. Thanks!
@@muralikrishnan9791 I am from Kolkata. In Bangalore I am sure you would find many good mechanics to have the valve clearance checked. Few of them will definitely be much better than ASC. However if you can convince the big wing guys to check it again, you would have more peace of mind.
If it were a dohc setup like KTMS and all the whole engine needs to be removed from chasis.. and change shims..and there is also no adjuster just change 4 shims and all gaskets need to be changed its very critical task and lengthy but in this case its OHC its easy just open head and adjust..just like a scooty or bike or even Enfield..
Periodic maintenance ke hisab se every 25000 kms ke bad check or adjust karni chahiye. Agar noise ati hay to bhi adjust karna parta hay. Mere bike me different adjustment kia hua hay ta ki city may better chal sake. Top end thora kaam hoga lekin low end better.

@@alanbenny7962 if you really want to do it yourself, initially do it under the supervision of a good technician. Later you would be able to do it alone. That is the right way to go.
hi bro..clearance value.inlet valve 0.1mm and exhaust valve 0.30 mm??..service centre says from shop manual..VALVE CLEARANCE : IN : 0.10 ± 0.02 mm ( 0.004 ± 0.001 in ) EX : 0.30 ± 0.02 mm ( 0.012 ± 0.001 in )
Can you please share how keeping such a tight exhaust clearance helps with better usage of the 5th gear. I noticed your inlet is not that much out of spec but your exhaust is pretty out of spec, beats my understanding. Please shed some light for the sake of the science behind it. Thanks. I was all along led to believe this bike has a 4V setup, now I am a bit disappointed. Seems the bike has lost its charm in my mind a bit seeing 2V setup ☺️
Hi sir, I bought my highness 2 months ago. After some rides (about 300km) I noticed a knocking type sound from the engine. Some metal hammering sound. The noise is not heard this much in cold start but becomes louder when riding. I had visited service centre 2 times and they said it's normal sound. Current KM: 2100 Is this knocking sound an issue?
