  • Day 8 we continued north from Spitzkoppe reaching Brandberg just before sunset. Patrol had tyre damage but we managed to find a new rubber in Uis.
    Day 9 we searched for Elephants in the Ugab River but did not expect to spend most of our day recovering vehicles from thick sand tracks. Patrol got bogged twice and so did the Cruiser. Both vehicles weigh around 3.5 tons plus towing around 1.4 tons. It's fun but added an additional 7 hours to our trip.
    It's what we love and creates memories that will always get airtime around the camp fire.

    I ❤️ it when the Mountain Goat takes the lead. 💥😁

      Tx Johannes glad you are open minded. Taking the lead is a "Mountain Goat" characteristic however sometime take the back seat to assure no one stays behind 😁🤣

    Just came across your series of videos today and watched 4 already. Amazing. Love it. Could you share you entire itinerary and overall map for the entire trip?

    Your 2nd video that I've watched, impressive especially the Vanzyls Pass one. In this one I've missed some camera footage of your first stuck in the soft sand. Still not 100% sure the route you took to get to Uis but will look it up. You did not mentioned the overnight camps name, is it Brandberg camp near White Lady? Did you follow the Ugab from there? And the gate at the end, where is that? Are you using Gopro and cellular cameras and what video editing software are you using?

      Hi Stephan. Yes it was Brandberg White Lady. Very good camp with great facilities. Well worth a 2 night stay in my opinion. We took the route from Brandberg into the Ugab. I can't remember anything about a gate at the end. All I can remember is that it was a very long drive. We used 2 x GroPro Hero 6 and some dashcam from a Garmin GPS. Most of the footage is GoPro. No cellular footage. My boet Juan does the editing using some Mac proprietary software and the equivalent on Microsoft is Adobe.

    Congratulations on finding a “swamp area” in Namibia, especially within that cacophony of noise.

    Nice video. What program or how do you plan your routs. Not just a t4s and go?

      Thanks. Mostly using a combination of Google Maps, Google Earth, and Tracks4Africa. Even though I'm really disappointed with the support service of Garmin Basecamp. The software crash on the new MacOS. I personally think that it's time for a new player in that maps market to improve and modernise. We also change routes during trips as we explore the area. So high-level route planning is mostly the go to option.

    Rough day!
    If I may ask, what tire pressures were you running in the sand?
    Love your work.

      Thanks. Very rough day :-)
      We've used 0.8 bar (11 psi if I'm not mistaken) in the front and 1.2 bar (17 psi) at the back because of the 1.5T caravan/trailer. We also deflate the trailer and caravan tyres to the same as the front. I personally don't believe that deflating trailer or caravan tyres makes a difference in these harsh terrains. But that's my experience from towing with a LC V8 that's got more than enough power to pull. The Patrol also have more than enough horses. Running with such low tyre pressures requires a good tyre with strong side walls. I have to add that when the sand gets harder, we inflate to the our normal offroad pressures of 1.2 bar front, 1.5 bar rear, 1.2 bar caravan.

    Were your caravan and trailer tyres both deflated to .08 bar

    • @SimpleLifeOverland
      @SimpleLifeOverland  3 года назад

      We definitely deflated the caravan and trailer but the exact pressure I can’t remember. Most likely about 1.2 - 1.5 bar. Vehicle was deflated to .8 and .7 depending on terrain.
