I honestly believe this is the worst "serious" arc. I dislike last minute backstories for villains. It makes things seemed rushed and to me it makes the backstory feel like bullshit. This arc suffers from that worse than any others (but most old Tama serious arcs are pretty average excluding Yoshiwara) I like how dynamic the set up was but the presentation was quite the opposite which really made the arc suffer. I disliked it by the end. It barely passes as a story arc to be honest. Granted it's not as cliche as benzakura but at least benzakura was consistent.
@@doggerlander They do feats that seem unrealistic in comparison to what they had done previously in the series (Gintoki jumping up to the sky at a helicopter) the backstory was shoved in last minute. Which is done in other shonen it's a poor way to give depth to a character when it shouldve been pre-established earlier rather than right before they die.

I don't see how this arc is inconsistent. And i believe the backstory stuff was handled really well.
