It works great. Thanks for the video. Since the new update you can copy your files to the cloud and skip the transfer cable part. It made things a lot easier but took longer.
@glockNOstop I'm glad it helped you! That was the main reason why I made the video, to help people understand that it'll still work, you just need some mechanical skill ;)
yes, since it is just a simple SATA 2.5 inch laptop drive. You could technically use a cloning software such as Norton Ghost to literally identically recreate that drive, including each partition, byte to byte. I use a physical cloner box which you can insert drive A (source) and drive b (destination) and clone entire drive. After its done if you cloned a 12gb hard drive to a 320gb hard drive you will need to plug it into windows 7 and stretch the data partition but it would work perfectly.
Mine was from a knock off drive I had bought in late 2009 from ebay right after the 250GB MW2 LTD ED came out (about 6 months before you could buy an official 250GB HDD separately) but, most people get it from DealExtreme, you can also get it from Amazon.
That is because game installs are linked to a specific Xbox, if you installed them on 1 they won't play on another. installed games check to see if the game is inserted then spins down, so if the area it checks isn't scratched it sees it as a legit game and plays off the HDD, but since it's scratched now to reinstall it to your new Xbox you need to get a new copy because it installs the whole game disc
That is correct Wolfwood428, Reginald Phielix, it has to be formatted specially for the Xbox 360, for it to see it and it to work... You can use an official drive or a drive formatted with HDDHackr... oh, and you can only use a max of 320gb right now, and only certain drives work (I think), you can find it on google which models will work.
the warranty on the new drive (which I'm sure you're referring to) only is 90 days, and the second it's open the warranty is void, but as long as you're careful, the warranty isn't needed, and it will work
You can, but it won't work unless you're RGHed or J-Tagged, it's "not why not just install it?" because it's physically possible to do, it's "what Micro$oft will let me use on my 360?" which is an official or HDDHackr flashed 320gb or smaller drive. Micro$oft locks the 360 to 320gb currently, its not like a PS3, but maybe in the future Micro$oft will unlock it or move the lock up to 500 gb or 1 tb
If it's fixed, it would act the same, if you're worried about the drive pulling more power and making the 360 run hotter, don't worry because I'm pretty sure the official slim 360 drives consume less power, and in return run cooler.
Do to the way you worded this question, I'm not really sure what you are asking, but I assume you're asking if it is needed? Yes, it is needed to be successful (unless you have an old cable and another "fat" case to use it in), also it will have the fat Xbox connector on it too, so you can use it for the old drive case type too
Well 4 fans will do that! lol The XCM Core Cooler v2, was designed to cool, not be quiet eventhough the tired to make it as quiet as possible, it really needs holes above it and, I just never really saw the point to let more dust into the system
Yeah I looked all over and kept getting the same result... I thought "My Jasper 360s work great, why would I want to upgrade to a slim that doesn't seem as reliable just to use a 320?"
Thanks for the video. After viewing this, I knew what to expect. But just realized, why disassemble the Xbox 360 S hard drive, you can just remove the connector and use it as an adapter.
I'm not following your question very well? If you mean what is explained in the video, it's explained in the video? If you mean how to transfer a fat 360's drive data to a slim 360, it's as easy as using the other adapter on the transfer cable
If you are J-Tagged or RGHed you can, if you aren't or don't even know what that means then you can't because that means you're not. 360's have a set partition size, it isn't like a PS3, because Micro$oft wants to try to bleed you dry, by making you buy their official drive. You could install it, and flash it to make the 360 think it is official I think, but it would only show up as the biggest size available at the time, which still is 320gb
Yep, it'll work... and yep I'm the first.... it came to me in a dream.... not really, but I knew they upgraded the software across the 360 line to accept 320gb and I had noticed that people were making HDDHackr 320s in the original case and selling them on eBay and ding a light went off... "It should work" and it did!
@m0dm0use yep and also remember that if you have 360 compatible original xbox games you can't play them on a Chinese drive 99% of the time because of the lack of the emulation "ghost" partition. That's why I reccomend the official drive.
It has to be a specific drive, spoofed (custom flashed) to make the 360 think it is an official drive I believe, I've never flashed a HDD, although I have spoofed some disc drives in my time. And with the flash drive problem, the 360 will format it over to its special file format which isn't PC compatible, how ever you can custom format (choose the format size) it on the 360, if you still want to use it on your, PC, It would be like having a smaller flash drive
nope, unless you're running a j-tagged 360.... Microsoft checks to see if the drive is formatted correctly and you can only use up to 320gb right now. You can flash a 500 to a 320, but then it's a 320gb in the eyes of the xbox
You might, it wouldn't hurt to try I don't think? but I don't think you can, It's the way the drive is specially formatted plus I believe it has a special low level file needed to tell the xbox how big the drive is.
@MrTankyDan No, It's an official Micro$oft drive, it's not modified, Micro$oft can't tell the difference... even with the China drives, they're not detectable
I should have kept my slim hard drive I got the other year for xmas and just used the cable from one of my 20gb drives to hook it up, but wasnt thinking and just took it back for the money and found a 120gb for the normal one for cheap, I dont even remember if the slim drive I got was 250 or 320
it wont show at all? or youre just getting 290gbs? I'd say make sure all the connections are flush.. if so thest the dive in someting el se the drive might be damaged
I have Full Games installed on my old hard drive because some of my games are scratched but when i changed my hard drive to my slim i cant play my scratched games anymore.
I purchased a ready made 320gb for the older fat 360s from China, just let let people know the "fake" drives are no longer as cheap as normal due to Westurn Digital factory getting flooded. I paid £40 for my drive from China!
@themarcrobertson An official 360 drive is formatted the same weither it's a fat or slim drive... it'll work in either one and have the Xbox 1 partition. Now if it is a Chinese drive, you can create the partition wth the HDDHackr, but it's a pain in my opinion and not really worth it.
can we use another sata drive as Laptop HDD?? and ı have 60gb HDD when ı try to transfer from my flash... first of all i formatted flash on xbox... and then when ı unplugged flash and ı checked after format on my pc.. ı saw there is no space... 16 GB capacity 15.3 used.. how is possible. it was empty..when i check inside of usb flash there is a folder name xbox ( I think system files) what is the situation?
Hi, thanks for this excellent video! Can i transfer data from my old hard drive to slim hard drive with old my transfer cable or do i have to buy expensive New transfer cable?
Is it possible to connect a Microsoft Xbox 360 320 go hdd with data on it to an original xbox 360 white without formating it?? Because the xbox want me to format it, but there's a lot of things I don't want to lose...
it comes formated because its for the 360. you could go into the mu settings and reformat before transfering your data to your xbox. that might get you the other 30 gbs. if you have your data on it already and you formate it will DELETE EVERY THING.
You have to format it yourself, I read into it a bit more. I got a different hard drive with you, so you have to alter it in a way that the xbox can read it. Ended up not working out because I didn't format it correctly. Live in learn.
you are, but even if you weren't it wouldn't void your xbox warranty, as long as you haven't opened it... you're opening the HDD which has nothing to do with the Console's warranty
@HrutkayMods probably why mines doesn't work 🤣🤣🤦 replaced mined like a month ago and it's never worked since. First and last time I try to 'improve' a console 🤣
The problem with that is that is that no 1TB 360s exist so you'd be caught and banned reasonably quick. Best to go with 20,60,120,250,320 or 500GB configurations to stay safe.
well you can use a 1tb, but you have to flash it with a "official" 360 profile so the 360 can read it, the biggest is a 500gb profile so you would only be able to use 500gb of the 1tb the only way to use 1 tb is in a jtag, and of course that isn't allowed on live
If you lose the tiny spring (like I did) a spring from a pen works wells. You just need to cut it to fit the size.
Actually the transfer cable is basically a USB to SATA, I've used the cable to use my old drive as an external on my PC, very handy
yes, since it is just a simple SATA 2.5 inch laptop drive. You could technically use a cloning software such as Norton Ghost to literally identically recreate that drive, including each partition, byte to byte. I use a physical cloner box which you can insert drive A (source) and drive b (destination) and clone entire drive. Thanks, I tried my best to keep it simple, that why I also made an official drive disassembly video also.

All you really need is the hard drive adapter cable for the original 360 and you can keep the slim one in the same case
the warranty on the new drive (which I'm sure you're referring to) only is 90 days, and the second it's open the warranty is void, but as long as you're careful, the warranty isn't needed, and it will work
Yep, you can do that but then again, a lot of people like to be able to use their old case... but that's a neat idea!
You can, but it won't work unless you're RGHed or J-Tagged, it's "not why not just install it?" because it's physically possible to do, it's "what Micro$oft will let me use on my 360?" which is an official or HDDHackr flashed 320gb or smaller drive. Yes you can, I made this video for the people who didn't have slims and wanted a 320gb in their drive case
You have the ticket! I was looking for this exact video!
thank you so much for making this video I needed to see proof that this could work
+Donald Fitzhugh II No problem glad to help
Yes, but some people just want to keep all their stuff on their hard drive, this helps people to keep at it.
yes exactly, just as the video says, have fun!
If it's fixed, it would act the same, if you're worried about the drive pulling more power and making the 360 run hotter, don't worry because I'm pretty sure the official slim 360 drives consume less power, and in return run cooler.

thats the first vid i see with this update , i have it too , it rocks :DD thnx for the vid
damm I always think it was a flash drive soldered on a board in here...
You can just take the cable out of the original drive case then if you want to do that then you can transfer the drive back and forth
I'm not following your question very well? If you mean what is explained in the video, it's explained in the video? If you mean how to transfer a fat 360's drive data to a slim 360, it's as easy as using the other adapter on the transfer cable
It has the SATA tip on it that you need to plug into the old drive
Great video. Instructions were easy to follow.
@gaymerguy69 yep, you're welcome and yep, with an original case, you can use the original cable.
To open the case from the fat Xbox a t6 driver is needed and slim Xbox drive like a 250gb drive to replace or the 320gb.
I'm assumig you are talking about the slim 360 drive? About any major store like GameStop, WalMart, Target, etc...
Yes, I use it everyday, It should always work
Yep, it'll work... and yep I'm the first.... it came to me in a dream.... not really, but I knew they upgraded the software across the 360 line to accept 320gb and I had noticed that people were making HDDHackr 320s in the original case and selling them on eBay and ding a light went off... "It should work" and it did!
try searching "xbox 360 transfer cable slim" on ebay... if it has the sata tip, youre gold... also theyre at Game Stop for like $20
Any 2.5 hdd will work as long as its formated for xbox 360
@m0dm0use yep and also remember that if you have 360 compatible original xbox games you can't play them on a Chinese drive 99% of the time because of the lack of the emulation "ghost" partition. That's why I reccomend the official drive.
Yes you can use the old one, it should work
don't worry about it
glad it helped
Great video. One question though. What size tip/screwdriver did you use to take apart the old hard drive case.
thanks, didn't know that, that's great to know!
@jimithepro No prob, glad you liked it!
oh ya where do you get that transfer cable all i ever find is the old hdd cable only on ebay
Yep, I use it in my Custom Halo 3 Special Edition
I heard that it'll be in the "720" but it's so late in the game for the 360 I doubt they'll be a 500gb for the 360
nope, unless you're running a j-tagged 360.... Microsoft checks to see if the drive is formatted correctly and you can only use up to 320gb right now. You can flash a 500 to a 320, but then it's a 320gb in the eyes of the xbox
Would it be possible to take a 500gb hard-drive from an Xbox super slim and put in the fat one? With no strings attached?
@biglargeo Mod? it's just a hard drive swap basically.
Could you theoretically use a hard drive duplication thing to transfer everything perfectly?
you can ,but you'll run into broken games alot
You might, it wouldn't hurt to try I don't think? but I don't think you can, It's the way the drive is specially formatted plus I believe it has a special low level file needed to tell the xbox how big the drive is.
it's in the video and description
in the white xbox? you want the drive in the case of the Xbox? I'm I understanding that correctly?
it really works? You're the first who made this video. I just saw the old hdd in new xbox ..sorry for bad english :)
@MrTankyDan No, It's an official Micro$oft drive, it's not modified, Micro$oft can't tell the difference... even with the China drives, they're not detectable
it should work with out formatting, if it isn't then the drive probably has been corrupted.
do u still want the old hard drive
I should have kept my slim hard drive I got the other year for xmas and just used the cable from one of my 20gb drives to hook it up, but wasnt thinking and just took it back for the money and found a 120gb for the normal one for cheap, I dont even remember if the slim drive I got was 250 or 320

I have Full Games installed on my old hard drive because some of my games are scratched but when i changed my hard drive to my slim i cant play my scratched games anymore.
So does that mean your old one I back to 250g?
Or still full?
+Bawi hrin it transfers a copy of the data, the 250 was still full until I formatted it for another Xbox build I did
thanks i really liked this video...it is well explained and easy to follow...i where did you get the case though....=)
what if your old one had RROD (red rings of death) would it harm anything?
read the title and discription? yeah it'd work?
Yes it worked fine, opened the new drive with boxcutters..
@kartman74usa The newest transfer cables have the SATA end, just ask if it's slim drive compatable, if you can't tell on the box.
You have to flash the drive (to fool the 360 to thinking it's official), and only certain drives work, all I can say is to google search it
no you can leave it in its case and just plug the HDD cable from the original 360 into it
yes but it'd be much more complicated and require more cables
You can do this without having to mod
Your 360 right?
As long as it is a factory slim drive yes if it’s an aftermarket drive, you’ve still got to modify the drive itself to be properly formatted
is there a way without breaking the slim's case?
Wow, Just looked at it, never seen someone successfully do that with out a J-taged/RGH'd 360 before, how did you manage to do it?
I purchased a ready made 320gb for the older fat 360s from China, just let let people know the "fake" drives are no longer as cheap as normal due to Westurn Digital factory getting flooded.
I paid £40 for my drive from China!
@themarcrobertson An official 360 drive is formatted the same weither it's a fat or slim drive... it'll work in either one and have the Xbox 1 partition. Now if it is a Chinese drive, you can create the partition wth the HDDHackr, but it's a pain in my opinion and not really worth it.
also can you connect to Xbox Live with it?
slim to none, if all connections are seated it should work perfectly
I've had my xbox for 7 years now. I think I'm past the warranty.

Hi, thanks for this excellent video! Can i transfer data from my old hard drive to slim hard drive with old my transfer cable or do i have to buy expensive New transfer cable?
Do you know how to put in the white xbox
What is the risk of irreparable damage?
good luck!
why i need a transfer cable for the slim HDD??
Is it possible to connect a Microsoft Xbox 360 320 go hdd with data on it to an original xbox 360 white without formating it?? Because the xbox want me to format it, but there's a lot of things I don't want to lose...

Now can you explain how its formatted...................
it comes formated because its for the 360. you could go into the mu settings and reformat before transfering your data to your xbox. that might get you the other 30 gbs. if you have your data on it already and you formate it will DELETE EVERY THING.

You probs got a knok off. Its not posibul to screw up on formating unless you custom format.
It was a Toshiba, I know my mistake haha
+DCFanatic7 ah, ya that would kake sense
can you also use a normal 2,5" hdd or must it be from a xbox 360 slim?
How to transfer from 250gb t0 320gb slim with all your storage?
Everything is transferred except installed games
you are, but even if you weren't it wouldn't void your xbox warranty, as long as you haven't opened it... you're opening the HDD which has nothing to do with the Console's warranty
So I assume by 'slim' hard drive. That means like a laptop HDD?
360 Slim HDD... any factory 360 Slim HDD is formatted to work in the phat models
@@HrutkayMods yes it's like FAT32 format. Could probably reverse format them to work on a pc 🤣
It’s literally just a laptop hard drive on the inside, but it Has to be specially formatted to work in the Xbox
@HrutkayMods probably why mines doesn't work 🤣🤣🤦 replaced mined like a month ago and it's never worked since. First and last time I try to 'improve' a console 🤣
@@HrutkayMods thank you
I tried this, but the system is telling me i can have a max of 32gb
It shouldn't sorry to hear that, never heard of that problem before
Thank you
does anybody else notice he sounds like treetrunks from adventure time ?
Can I use and HDD like a 500GB 7200RPM to putint the case?
Can we use a 1 TB or higher in a fat Xbox 360 and play store bought games and downloaded games from Xbox Live Marketplace on it?

is it enough to just get a 2.5'' 250gb hdd or does it need to be exact model? (wd,hitachi,samsung,segate...?) please answer. sorry for bad english..
Why not just buy a 1tb 2.5 HDD and install it?
will an older 360 be able to use a 500gb?
yep
