I love it all Dan! We used to have deer drives like this back when I was younger and this sure brought back some wonderful memories! You’re a mighty good man for taking care of your friend during his hard times. Prayers for his healing and comfort and prayers for your health and safety!

Love how you explain how and why you do the drives the way you do. Makes me miss doing them. Sometimes it’s not about the deer you get, but the comradery that you have with the guys, especially as we get older. Great job!

I like hunting this way and watching videos like this. To me it’s more sporting than sitting in a $3500 tower stand looking over a $2000 dollar food plot.

Seems like deer season brings out a lot of emotions when we have time to just sit and reflect and bye you mentioning Dave in the beginning of this video tells me that you have a heart of gold and to finish it off with proving a deer to another friend whom is in for the fight of his life let's us all know there is really still good people in this not so very good world right now. Iv lost a good hunting buddy this year myself and it really messed me up for a bit seeing what that man went thru this past year so it made me appreciate every day I wake up and to be able to sit in a tree and watch the sun rise. Thanks for the video share and remembering the not so fortunate ones we know. Be safe out there fellas.

Dan I love everything your putting out... It's been an up and down year in Michigan but I smoked a giant 8 pt on the 20th of November and I want to thank you for giving me all the pieces of the puzzle that you have put together over the years... My dad built my strong hunting foundation and now he's gone, and over the years of watching and learning from guys like you I've managed to put up the 4 walls, but the last few years you have built the roof for my wonderful home I call hunting. Thanks for filling some pretty big boots...I wish the best for your friend with cancer.

Good on you Dan for getting that doe for you friend! I have did that many times in my life for older or sick people and not just deer but also small game. Many times it was their last. Bad thing is some yrs ago i had an uncle who was like my second dad i would have done anything for and i couldn't deliver when he also had cancer and soon passed. He had asked me for tame rabbit to eat a few times. I was going through rough stuff because my dad had died and then i lost my job and literally didn't have two nickels to rub together. He didn't realize how bad it was but i couldn't afford to go buy a couple rabbits to cook. That has haunted me ever since. I think it will always bother me but man it was my lowest point in life and was bad money wise. A man better give thanks every day for what he has, i know i do. Be safe and happy hunting!

At least you were out giving it the effort to try to get them a deer.i got a doe and a buck and donated half of the meat to a family down the road that isn't able to get out and hunt. They were so grateful and they will have some great and healthy meals this winter for their family.hoping to get a few more for other people I know that could really use the meat and will be grateful to have it. Going out hunting is alot of fun to me but I don't need all the meat for my family so I give a lot of venison away so every one can enjoy it and it's a very healthy choice of meat.god bless and good luck out there

Awesome video, Dan. What I enjoy most about your videos aside from the technical things I learn about deer is just watching the grind and relating to it. It can be very tough mentally when you're having a dry year so it's helpful and motivating to see other hunters get rewarded after grinding all season.

I enjoy the tactics you talk about for drives. Always look forward to your gun season videos. This was great content. I always learn something. I used to do drives in the cattails when I was younger and this brought back awesome memories. You’re right about the bigger bucks escaping differently than other deer. I’ve watched them nonchalantly walk between drivers and get away unscathed.

Nice video Dan. Enjoyed watching and the light hearted-ness of the video. We can get a little to serious sometimes and forget to have fun. Cool to see you getting the young guys out too and they are lucky to have a great hunting mentor like you. I always learn something from your videos and your attention to detail out in the woods. Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

You are doing good in my eyes Dan. I love how you explain why you do things and where you expect the deer to be.
We just finished our gun season and deer drives. I found some deer didn't care that they were down wind from the drivers. They stayed put in hopes we would walk by. Most times you were about 10 feet away when they jump up and bolt, that takes a toll on the ticker when they do that, they blend in so well without snow. Like you said too, most try to get back between the drivers to reach safety, well at least for one more day!

A tip Dan for keeping your doggers lined up, and letting the standers know where they are , have the pushers blow on a crow call occasionally. Deer don't react at all. A crow "alarm" call lets everyone know a deer is running.

I gave him a roast from my early season buck, and just before gun season he told me his family was saving it so they had something special for thanks giving... That got to me and I thought right there, this guy needs a whole deer for his family. He was the only one working and providing and is self employed, and cant work no more... Least I could do. He has always been a good friend to me.
