More than 40 years, from 1965 to 2008 (since 1992 as 1st Principal Bass).
Not sure how - he wasn’t very good
Which also means he was likely one of those who denied women to even participate in auditions.
Not in my hall of fame. You asked for it, so here is a bit more of the truth.
Speaking of this, this orchestra is notoriously known for being the last great one to accept women. I would nnot blame if those dislikes came from women. That was shameful.
In the USA, Jane Little was in service at the Atlanta orchestra for 71 years. She started when she was only 16, ironically here because all men were away fighting the crazy Nazis... She is definitely in my hall of fame.
Klaus , you don't know, how much I miss to meet you every week, learn from you how to make music on the bass. It's a pleasure to listen to you, big , but big hug from Spain. You still being my vortbild.
His lesson of knowing the period of the music is a lesson that ALL instrumentalists can learn from. This video is great for double bassists but I believe a violinist who is still honing their craft would be well served to watch this as well. Fantastic stuff!
An absolutely wonderful presentation.
Really love the sound and the expression. One of my favorite pieces of music, It was real fun and pleasure to play it last year
Concert bass playing that so rocks...and what a really lovely man. Thank you.
This is beautiful playing! Wonderful!
Bravo! Clear and enjoyable presentation.
Truly a masterclass!!!! Bravo
Great tone as always!
THIS IS REALLY AWESOME!!
Wunderbar!
Thanks!! He's awesome! I hope to be as good as him some day! I've only been playing for 2 years. But I strive to be the best I can be. I'm in a local Symphony.
Insightful. That is outstanding.
He plays extremely well. Really impressive
Wow......I just started on double bass. This guy is amazing....I would love to learn from him.

Was für ein toller Musiker!
Sehr schön!
Not only good...
Highest respect!
Wow, I finally knew his name! I have video recordings of Berlin Phil and whenever I look at the bass section, he's always so ethusiatic! He's like the Santa Claus (no pun intended) of the orchestra! :D
thats cute
Just click on the subtitle button below the video!
“I made a mistake on purpose”😂😂😂
How is that remotely funny? He did it to represent what not to do while playing the piece, and not just because. You do realize this video is part of a master class, right?
Stoll sei il numero uno!
:) great stuff!
Lieber Herr Stoll.
Danke für diese paar unglaublich griffigen Unterrichtsminuten.
Un maestro eccellente
sacré classe petit bonhomme ! Wunderbar !
Great...
👍👍👍👍👍
Grande Maestro!!! ...
(spero che torni presto a Fiesole ...)
Super!! :))
Will there be a cello master class? Please, I would die to see one of the cellist in BP give a master class!
@eerbrev Subtitles will be uploaded soon, so stay tuned!

I become his producer when he and Jörg Baumann came to Sweden and the SR.
He has a very unique way of bowing.
Ya it’s not straight - looks like he is sawing away
But what a lovely sound!!

:) just wondering, do you have any bassist playing with french bow?
Not in the Berlin Phil...
No. Nazis don’t like the French
Anyone know how long Herr Stoll has been with the orchestra?
he said about it at 0:23 , already 43 years (until 2010)
Amazing, but what did he say?
+Luis Cosme If you press the "cc" button at the bottom right corner, the English subtitles will come up! :)
Is there a plan to translate this? I'd love to learn from this guy, but german is not my strong point.
Welcome to 2021.
I wish I knew what he was saying. I do not speak German yet...
we need a tranlation
Press to cc!
thanks
@eerbrev
I think you should plan to learn German. European Classical music is much better undertood in Italian or German. Give it a try, I does not bite!!! Good luck
Why is it that you almost never see black haired bows like the one he's using?
because the black hair has more grip on the string, but it also decreases the clearness of the notes, most solo musician do not need that strong grip but a more clear sound. However, in the orchestral settings you will see the black hair more often.
Not sure how this guy had a job for so long
@@user-xi3uw3cf3g he wasn’t very good
