I hate how opinionated everyone is about this video series. They pretend that they're the ones who visited the peninsula. This guy is very well spoken and honest. Take it for what its worth.
If you want to understand, I was hesitant even watching these videos because it is supporting someone who supported North Korea through tourism(even if he only made a penny off my view). So is North Korea an extreme example, yeah. I don't know of a single other country that brainwashes people on a daily basis for a single goal and position. I will use this more as a scholarly point then a religious one. In the Bible, Jesus gives Christians the right to judge in two and only two circumstances. When children are being used and when the church is being used. While Christianity has been corrupted today, even it's founders saw two things as so evil it is ok to judge. I think the rulers of a country setting themselves up as the de facto "God" means they are corrupting the church. Unquestioning reverence of anything takes away what it is to be human, the ability to think. Name one other country that does this? And you will see the difference between NK and everyone else. There is no human right more important than the ability to think for oneself.
@@justindadswell8610 shut up...and why you talking about christianity? Do you really think NK cares about christianity? Why dont you go there and tell them all about christianity and see what happens lol
Surely anyone going to North Korea would be thoroughly briefed on what not to do, which is probably just about anything they are not directed to do. I would never go to North Korea for that reason, the consequences of a screwup, intentional or not are just too great.
That is an extreme gradation. Having different laws and culture does not justify such an extreme misuse of sovereignty. Tearing a poster off the wall could reasonably be seen as a dick move pretty much anywhere, but in NK it’s punishable by death. That makes it an evil state.
@@alexburke5289 I doubt Otto was cognisant of the fact that Death was a reasonable expectation of punishment for that act. Although I agree, on a personal level it is not intelligent to provoke an obviously evil and unstable regime. This says nothing of what is a proper and justified response by foreign legal authority. Humbling or being humbled demands a requisite respect that DPRK's actions preclude. This is quintessentially an insane statement, to say that respect must be given in absence of the work necessary to deserve said respect. Major difference between western and eastern cultures, that still fuels issues today.
There's a lot of sophistry here. When you go to other countries you are not, by the by, directly enriching the government because the government rarely has that totalitarian control over every aspect. Your dollars/euros/pesos go to the people who live there, who will pay some taxes but in general will be able to use your money to make purchasing decisions that benefit them as individuals. North Korea is a special case because they so brutally control their people that everything you do is for the country's direct benefit or it does not happen. EVERYTHING. Defector after defector has described the tours like the one you went on, how everything is carefully staged from top to bottom by the government, every itinerary checked, nobody is allowed to go anywhere or show anything that is not designed to pain the government in a good light. The shops you were allowed to shop in were approved and made full and presentable. Your feasts were not typical food, but designed to impress you and make you compliment it. Farmers working in fields is no problem to film, they are proud of that. The overwhelming military presence is not, because they know it looks bad to have so many soldiers/civilians, so if you do you are in trouble. And rest assured, you probably were not always routed on the most direct roads to your destinations. If there was anything shameful or negative that could be seen by a road you do not go that way. That's also why you can't approach construction sites, because many of them are hollow shells to create an outward appearance of prosperity (China has this same problem, btw). Bottom line, do not forget you are permitted to do this tour only because it is an infusion of hard currency and propaganda. That said, I am NOT saying you shouldn't have gone. You do you. But the honest thing would be to state that you feel the value in shining light on these places requires you operate within a certain framework, not create false equivalencies with other countries. Britain, United States, New Zealand do have their problems of course, people are imperfect everywhere. But it is nowhere the near the same thing. You do not get beat up and left brain dead if you make fun of Boris Johnson or Donald Trump, in fact many people make their living doing it. You choose your religion, or no religion at all. You keep most of the money you earn, you spend it how you wish. You have freedom in the West, that's why everyone runs to it, and away from places like North Korea. And the reason its so safe for you (and also so clean) is simple: the people live in terror of their government. Can you imagine what would happen to them and their families for generations if they made the country look bad, especially in front of outsiders? You don't have to, defectors have said. One disloyal family member thrusts the entire family down into the lowest caste, suitable only for manual labor and a terrible life in a work camp. Your videos are well made, and I think it is important for outsiders to have a look into places like North Korea, even if it's an artificial look and sanitized. But do not justify your travel decisions by creating false equivalency.
Man, you've become my idol. You get the point of traveling, which is to empathize with people whose backgrounds are totally different from yours, instead of judging them or feeling superior. I traveled to Egypt recently and engaged a lot of locals (your openness is one thing that inspired me to do so) and they were really surprised, because the vast majority of visitors they get stay away from them! I would show up at a local restaurant and they would be amazed, as the other westerners prefer to visit McDonald's (they told me so!)! I was taken aback by that. I hope you read this, I send you a hug, man.
I feel you man. Why on earth would anyone eat at McDonalds when travelling? Sure, if it's to grab something fast because you're in a hurry, fine, but the whole point with going abroad is to experience that place.
@@Imtotallydiggingthis some people are drawn to the regional offerings that are not available in the US locations. There are RUclips videos about the unique foods that McDonald's locations abroad may offer. Beyond that, maybe intimidation trying something new without a backup option.
If a few public executions of low class thugs in U.S. cities would stop the endless crime and murders, I would be all for it. So think about what you are saying. North Korea may be to one extreme, but the U.S. is way too lenient towards crime and thug youth.
I think the biggest thing to be exposed in any country you’ve visited: the government of any nation and the people that nation consists of are two different entities entirely.
being isolated from the world for some days can be appreciated... north koreans though have been cut off for more than 60 years... that's oppression... that's heartbreaking.
ww2: the US vs Soviet Union duality is the reason of the divide of Korea. It is very sad to see one country split in two, each part only evolving in a direction far from the other through decades and decades... because of an ideoligical fight of foreign powers. Germany could make it through it... but at that time, the west didn't care that much about Korea.
xooox Thanks Nope. The USSR recognized the unified Korean partisan government, the US dissolved it and installed a military dictatorship in the South. The West then murdered a quarter of the Korean population in the Korean War.
Totally agree with your statement about appreciating freedom when you haven't had what we're used to for 8 days, the concept of not being able to walk or wander at your own leisure for 8 straight days is mind boggling. The simple act of walking next door to grab coffee or beer without having someone walk behind you is taken for granted I imagine
Funny, that's how I've been living since I was born for 20 years but no one talks about it or defends me because my country is America's friend instead of its enemy.
"You can't walk by yourself down the street and you're pretty much being watched at all times." That's something I think most of us cannot fully comprehend, myself included.
@@100Mmore I know that domestic surveillance has gotten really bad since 2001, but I don't see any hidden cameras. The only way I think they'd be able to spy on you everywhere you go is through what you take with you willingly-your cellphone. It has at least one camera and a microphone. Not to mention GPS tracking. Your smartwatch or fitness band you wear (if you wear one) also has GPS tracking, a microphone, too, if it's specifically a smartwatch. Video game companies also track your gameplay usage. With parental controls enabled, I can get a glimpse of what gameplay information the Switch probably collects anyway, which is what game any system played on what day, and for how long. It also tells if anything was downloaded from the Eshop. Library systems track what books are checked out to who. RUclips stores watch history. Truly we are all being watched. The reason why I'm not too anxious at the thought is because I have nothing to hide. I am a law-abiding citizen as far as I'm aware. I don't do anything illegal; the only drugs I take are prescription medicines. I don't steal from stores or anybody else. I don't harm anybody. Heck, I don't even drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes, e or otherwise. I have a job. The only gray area thing I've done that they can possibly hold against me is pirating old video games that I own(ed) to emulate. There's also the fact that I am very religious that I feel they might hold against me, but I don't think they could hold that against me, considering freedom of religion is a thing.
Those who live in Pyongyang are those who have earned that right to live in that city based on their loyalty and help to the regeime. So anyone including children you talk to are not regular North Koreans, but are part of the privileged few. They don’t need actors. The people you encountered on the Pyongyang street are party apparatchiks and their children. If you were able to talk to them in English, they are educated. So who has the right to be educated? Those who have shown their loyalty to the regime or whose parents have shown their loyalty to the regime are educated. The others doing cleaning and repair work, you can’t talk to anyway because they don’t understand English.
Chloe Moon Probably research..I studied some of this in grad school and it sounds familiar. Why did you even ask him that..it’s not like he claimed some off the wall stuff that makes zero sense. He gave you the city name, if you’re interested you can look it up.
@Chloe Moon Its common knowledge and besides that is literally an official stated policy of north korean. you have to have a proven family loyalty and social standing to be allowed to live there
So 2.6million people are part of the privileged elite? That’s roughly 10% of the population do you really think the bus drivers, shop workers, cleaners and all the other menial workers are, A. Part of the elite, or B. Don’t live in the city? When you put that statement under scrutiny it starts to fall apart
I think it's very hard to judge a country during a trip where you were under so much control. The control is of course designed to produce "good reviews". To truly understand North Korea, one would have to interview those that risked their lives to escape.
It's not entirely fair to only go by what those who escaped say either. But for sure, there's a lot to tell that will never be seen in one of these controlled yours. I think it was very obvious that Nick is aware of that though.
@@nisrrah8198 It's true that it's not fair to only consider what the leavers say, but the comparison to 'murica is not fair since people can leave 'murica as they please, unlike NK.
@@Imtotallydiggingthis worse than the ethnic cleansing currently under way in China? Worse than the lives of women in Saudi Arabia? Worse than the plight of slaves currently used to construct Dubai or the Qatar world cup stadia? Worse than those fleeing ISIS across the Sahara only to end up enslaved in Libyia? So much for your 'Free World'.
@@VaunShiz You're so brainwashed that isnt possible to your mind accept a different view from North Korea. That guy has been there, he felt these things and recorded, a lot of other yt channels also showed things apart from the usually "its a truman show every thing is controlled!1!!", so whats the problem with accepting it?
Really enjoyed this series. That took a lot of courage. One conclusion I had - NK is desperate for attention and approval. ----- You only paid ~1500 euro for that whole trip yet there were literally hundreds of NK people who dedicated their time and resources just to your group (an entire hotel staff, factory workers, school kids for example). The 'Truman Show' reference is perfect.
Really enjoyed your North Korea vlogs. I like your open minded attitude and tendency to lean towards the positives of your experiences. Good on you for being brave enough to go out on this adventure and then share your experiences with the world!
In a way, you did all you needed to do with this series for us in the audience. From the first episode I got the immediate feeling that the country is just like it's portrayed in the media: isolated and controlled. We could now see it in the footage that you captured, huge apreciation to you for doing that. With empty streets, empty hotels, empty beaches and other empty tourist attractions it's self-evident that the regular people are kept in strict government control. Nobody in their right mind would be saying that everything we saw here presents the NK in a good light and I'm glad you didn't frame it all like we were stupid. No over the top clarification of things, despite now some people of this audience demanding that you'd been clearer about the human right violations happening there. You (Nick) couldn't have seen them happening anyway, so in my opinion there's no point complaining about the choice of not focusing on that bad side. This video series is a stark but needed contrast for what I could read about the defectors and their own horrible reality. Every bit of new knowledge is valuable.
The media paints a bad picture of anything when it suits them Remember it was Obama that coined the phrase Islam is a religion of peace Yeah right have you seen what goes on in Muslim countries Far worse that North Korea
@@danielkirkland3366 "Islam is perfect, not Muslims" For the "far worse" side... some things are horrifying unfortunately, people dying of hunger is downright shocking. Hopefully we get to a stage where we don't have to compare "what's worse" and leave human-induced suffering across the globe in the past. All the best!
Thank you for sharing your experience with us! It felt like we were there with you, experiencing pretty much everything, and even though we didn't get to see some of things you did, it was still much more than we could get from like, a Google search. P.S. I've only seen your NK series, so it took me a bit to realize the "in case I don't see you" is probably how you end your videos in general, so hearing it for the first time in a video about NORTH KOREA... sounded very ominous XD again, thank you for sharing in such detail!
I agree with you completely about travelling in the moment rather than glancing at scenery in between checking your mobile. I rarely take pics now... just enjoy the experience. After all millions have same pics. Love your series...you're very honest and respectful of all host countries you're visiting.
Great insight on North Korea! I've been binge watching all of your videos and you're amazing! I've been learning so much about the world because of you. Keep doing what you're doing :)
I get where you’re coming from, but not sure I agree with your reasoning. No country’s pure, of course, but in the other direction, the logical extension of what you’re saying would seem to be “All governments have done bad things so there’s no point in boycotting any regime,” which is kind of like saying, “everyone’s done bad things so there’s no point in imprisoning anyone for any crime they commit.” I get that one can’t boycott every country if one wants to travel, but on the other hand, one has to ask oneself, is there any regime so depraved that one wouldn’t/shouldn’t support them with one’s money, and where does one draw the line?
I was very surprised at how beautiful Pyongyang looks in the sunshine, the river and the landscape. If it wasn't for the regime, it could be a truly beautiful and peaceful place to live!
No, he is just capitalizing on slavery and dictatorship, making money by promoting tourism and people spending money for our great leader. Fuck this guy. Hope he is making a shit ton of money because if I were making money by promoting such things I would not sleep at night
I don't think it is staged in a sense that those people aren't actors. That is their "normal" life, but since they can't move, speak or even think freely, they are basically programmed. They play their roles through their whole lifes without knowing what they are part of. And the tourists are supervised, the regime decides what part of this "game" they are allowed to see. Similarly to a videogame, where one can't go everywhere but have to follow a certain way the creators/programmers decided beforehead. Those who you can talk to (like the guys in that shop...) are probably "specially trained" people (anyone who speaks english really is I guess), maybe even spies or something similar.
Exactly right. He clearly has no idea the extent to which he WAS really a part of a huge, highly managed stage show, a propaganda exercise. The idea that "lots of people have pretty normal lives there" is just so ignorant.
One thing that really bothered me about your videos was how well they were feeding you consider how much starvation there is. Not really a critic of you, they wouldn't have given the food to their people anyway, just despicable.
I think it's one of the more well done aspects of the series, him showing the contrast of those two situations and alternate realities. One moment we can see a table filled generously just for the tourist group. In a while Nick shows them in a bus driving past people who are carrying sacks of rice which is probably the most they are let to bring home for their families. He doesn't have to tell how bad things are there in NK. And seems like many in his audience are pointing it as a criticism, like they are expecting the self-evident explained.
Katie north Korean aren't even starving anymore unlike in the late 90s. They improve their agricultural science and farming situation a lot and got rid of the famine crisis. North Korea is improving everyday while America is dying into degeneracy and destroying the earth.
Thank you for this brilliant series; you are a sincere and genuine individual - your answers were profound and intelligent. As always, I am looking forward to your next video. Cheers!
Your series of videos in North Korea was amazing ! I enjoyed each second of it. And don't apologize for some videos being *bumby* when you are on the roads. I loved watching the landscape in the country and the people working... and we could feel what yourself were feeling in the bus. Thanks a million ! And now, I am going to watch another of your incredible journeys. Cheers from Canada. ❤️🙏
I randomly spotted one of you videos and subbed just before the North Korea series, awesome work mate, I was quite surprised the you are also a kiwi, nice one bro
I'm quite late to these videos but this was extremely educational and I binge watched them! I love your Q&A at the end and this was wonderful to put into perspective. Of course, taking everything you experienced with a grain of salt knowing they won't show you all there is bad and good to NK. Still was breathtaking to see just how beautiful the landscape is!
The empty convenient store was so staged. I have never seen a store that perfect in my life. I felt like the locals in the area couldn't buy anything in there.
Yea that's why visiting NK is just a giant tightly controlled tour. I find it quite self unaware he is at times because these tours making life there look normal .... Is literally the whole point 😂. Most of the NK population is starving
@@Rasputin.Bogard The country has little to no food, no power, no running clean water. Most people have to bathe and clean clothes in rivers. It's a sad sight. The tours are completely staged which is why they are on a time frame with no freedom to go anywhere. You can't leave the tour group because what's past the tour group is a country that can't hold itselfs up to the power they say they have. I'm not saying the people aren't happy, im just saying that Kim Jung un needs to keep up the big bad nuclear country look since they are most likely pretty weak.
Incredibile video, Nick! I became a Patreon during the North Korea series, and I support no other channel on RUclips. I love your style your personality and how you look at life! $5 a month isn't much, but I wanted to support what you do during your travels! I get lost in your videos and they let me travel along with you, being that I don't have the means or good health like you do. Thank you for being so YOU! Hopefully you understand what I'm trying to convey! Looking forward to seeing more of your new videos! Stay safe and all the best to you, from Long Island, NY, USA!🇺🇸 ~Cat🐱💜😘👍🏻
What struck me most about your videos on North Korea was that very few, if any, people you filmed out your bus windows were smiling.. They all looked seriously stressed. It was very interesting to see what the tour there was like, but all the tour experiences were as you say, entirely managed and there was no possibility to talk with any person in secret .
Many cultures do not smile by default. It's seen as extremely bizzare and only something you do when you're genuinely full of joy or something is really funny. Go to any Eastern European country and you will note that even store clerks and service staff don't typically smile. It doesn't mean that they're stressed, it's simply a cultural difference.
What struck me was the meals. Everywhere he went it looked like the best spread I have ever seen. Endless bowls of food, all looking appetizing. I would love to go to North Korea one day.
I just discovered your channel and I absolutely love it. I think it's awesome that you travel to these places and discover the country and it's people instead of the political or military views. I think it just proves that at our core, as people we all can get along and enjoy both our differences and things that are similar. Please keep up your travels and your videos
I hope that 4 years later you have come to realise that everything you experience in North Korea was just an act. There is a reason why the streets are always clean, why all the shops are always perfectly stocked, why everything is perfectly on display, why very few people drive cars, and so on and so forth.
@@TartarSauceIsNotDead learn to read between the lines bro lmao he wasn't even subtle with his subtext in the whole series and it went right over your head.
Surely you would've said your least fave thing was the bumpy roads? :p Also, in regard to immigration taking your passport, who actually keeps it? You went into North Korea via plane and left on a train, so at what point did you get the passport back seeing as you were not leaving the same way you entered?
Really enjoyed watching this series, have just been to South Korea so was curious to see a bit more of the North (other than the glimpse I got on a DMZ tour). Thanks for making!
Kia Ora fellow kiwi! We have been watching your videos for a while, after searching Egypt. Love the kiwi attitude and open mind in your videos. SO HAPPY you are going to Africa! I spent 3 weeks in Ghana 2 years ago and have been dying to go back ever since. You are the PERFECT personality for Africa and will absolutely love it and they will love you!!!!! We are headed back to Ghana in January for 2 months, after Egypt (thank you for convincing us ;)) cant wait to find out where and when you are going!
im a big fan of your page man, I really enjoyed your Bangladesh series as I am going to be there in the middle of august, keep of the good work my friend.
hey! it was great thanks for asking, I was in dhaka for 4 days, and I'm back in Phnom Penh where I live. I will be uploading my first vlog tomorrow, you're still in Bangladesh right? hows it going?
I just wanted to say thank you for creating this video series, you have given me a real eye opener into a country I’ve only ever heard bad things about and I have really enjoyed watching your time there. Sadly I’ll probably never get to go myself so thank you again for sharing your amazing adventure with me 😊
He saw what the government wanted him to see. There was nothing real about that. The whole trip was carefully coordinated. Did he get to talk to the locals in any way? Did he get to travel where he wanted? No he didn't... that he still presents all of this in a positive light should tell you something about his lack of ethics and morality. There's no eye opener here, if anything this series tries to close your eyes regarding the reality of the country.
Very well done series! Think I already mentioned that at some point, but content wise are you one of the best RUclips travel channels out there imo! Keep it up!
Fascinating to hear your thoughts on your trip, i really enjoyed the NK series. Im also super interested in this Africa trip youre teasing. I'll be checking for updates! have a good one x
Amazing video series! This is one of the best I've seen on the DPRK. I also appropriate your refreshing educated, neutral, and honest perspectives on the country! Cheers from the USA
BRAVO. your videos on North Korea have been absolutely superb, as has been your positive attitude. I'm a US expat living the stress free retired life in Thailand and I'm very, very interested in going to Pyongyang. I think it's vitally important that the people of the US make an effort to see things for themselves... and to extend a hand of friendship.
Tfw when mundane things like basketball can't be normal. Like seriously...Even people who direct traffic...that can't be normal. You don't have to like North Korea, but not everything is a conspiracy. Thank you for making this video bro.
Huh? No one was playing basketball, no one was directing traffic 😂😂😂 the lady was saluting members of the government as they went by like a robot. I'd hate what you think is "normal"
Kudos to you Indigo. That was very well done, thoughtful and informative. Your entire North Korean series should be a primer for anyone contemplating a visit there as to how to conduct themselves and keep an open mind. If I may and you are willing to answer, what is your educational background?
I think what this tells us is that the only real way to find out what a place is like is to go there and experience it for yourself. This series was really interesting and not what I was expecting! Really enjoy your films!
Tranendous channel.... The North Korean videos where the first I saw but I now love allyour videos. Do more of the main stream places too if u can such as Rome, England Paris. New York. You're a very sharp and self aware young man !!!!
Bro this NK series was mean. Like straight up ay, mind blown. Just wish you put in more footage, but inspired me to go check it out. Would love to korero with you one day. one day. Subbed.
He fails to mention the kids at the children’s day celebration pointing toy guns at him and calling him a “western devil”… kinda sus that he wouldn’t mention that. I don’t really understand why. I won’t complain too much though because his commentary in general here wasn’t bad. And his footage was the most detailed, longest and most comprehensive I’ve ever seen inside the hermit kingdom. So I appreciate that. Not really sure either why he’s convinced NK was on the verge of some grand change or reunification with the south.. I would be SHOCKED if anything of that nature happens anytime within the next 25 years. The north seems pretty committed to its stance of isolation and authoritarianism with communist characteristics
I noticed that too, and one of the kids literally throws a rock or a stick at him and he just chuckles sheepishly. Like wtf man. I get it though, he's scared sh!tless, but why oh why did he even go to North Korea then? With this North Korean holiday he sold out, lost his integrity and just acted as an enabler and a PR man for North Korea. This comment section is full of praise for him and comments like "you really made me wanna go to see this country". Kim Jong Un and the North Korean regime thanks you, @IndigoTraveller. I hope you feel good about yourself for contributing to their welfare. It's not so much about the money you spent in NK, but rather the positive publicity. You could be sponsored by "Visit North Korea". For shame. And the hypocracy and whataboutism in the ethics section of this clip is just so patronizing. "No I do not have any concerns. If I would only go to countries which I agree 100% with the government policies, I couldn't go anywhere. Pretty much every country has bad things..." Oh ffs. It's not about agreeing 100% with any government policies, what is this nonsense? This is about legitimizing and normalizing the atrocious regime of NK. You are legitimizing and normalizing the atrocious regime of NK. That's what this boils down to. Nothing more, nothing less. This is what you are doing. But I hear you, you have no concerns about this. Just as contributing to the genocide perpetrated by the Myanmar military would not move you at all, you just want to visit Myanmar. Stop masquerading as a "good guy", 'cause that you are not.
I'm really enjoying your travels. Thank you for being respectful of where you go and the people you meet and lacking ego and letting the place you visit speak for itself.
6:17 agreed with your statement, being cut off to the internet means that I'm not stressing out myself on checking what's new on my social medias etc etc.. Back in the day when I was a kid, there's no internet faster than 56kbps, and every tech was expensive.
North korean defectors have publicly pleaded with people not to visit and fund the dictatorship.. I would suggest listening to their views to formulate a complete opinion.
I subscribed because of you NK videos! I loved them all and also how hoy showed the beauty of the country. Thanks to you I'm planning on visit the country!
You said that North Korea is the last isolated country, but have you heard of Turkmenistan? It's just about as extremely cut off and mysterious. I watched a show called Dark Tourism on Netflix that featured it and it reminded me so much of your vlogs!
There is a HUGE difference between traveling to the USA and N Korea. In America, your tourist money goes to the merchant. You don’t “support” the government by going there. In N Korea, your money is directly funding the government. No one would hold it against you if you said you wanted to see the country. Trying to compare countries ethics to satisfy your own is a slippery slope.
All your videos help me develop a better understanding of humanity as a whole, which I value greatly. I admire your honest, open-minded and compassionate approach. Thank you very much...
I just Subscribed to your channel after I was initially drawn here to look at the sights u were posting about North Korea..but as I checked out your channel I'm so thrilled to see ALL THE PLACES you have visited!! There is no human right more important than the ability to think for oneself.
@@justindadswell8610 shut up...and why you talking about christianity? Do you really think NK cares about christianity? Why dont you go there and tell them all about christianity and see what happens lol
Just don't tear any posters off the wall.
That makes it an evil state.
..and dont work for the CIA!!
@@Deadross988 If you already know what to expect dont get angry with the results. Always be humbled in other countries.
Everything about how you express your ideas are sane, well collected and super classy. Right on my man.

What a profile pic dang

being isolated from the world for some days can be appreciated... north koreans though have been cut off for more than 60 years... that's oppression... that's heartbreaking.
xooox Thanks As a result of American aggression.
ww2: the US vs Soviet Union duality is the reason of the divide of Korea.

@100Mmore Are your friends and family disappearing bc of this surveillance? No?.... okay then stop talking
@Chloe Moon Its common knowledge and besides that is literally an official stated policy of north korean. you have to have a proven family loyalty and social standing to be allowed to live there
Are you talking about USA? (Money = Good education - No money = Die in the streets like a rat)
Lewis Doherty Funny how people don’t say “I” don’t understand Korean, but “they” don’t understand English.
YOu mean defectors? that dont value their country, i guess we should interview defectors of America to understand america then

he got his clicks and subs and north korea got a very flattering youtube vlog series from a westerner.
Whereas all tours in your country take you to the bad bits?
Really enjoyed this series. That took a lot of courage. One conclusion I had - NK is desperate for attention and approval. ----- You only paid ~1500 euro for that whole trip yet there were literally hundreds of NK people who dedicated their time and resources just to your group (an entire hotel staff, factory workers, school kids for example). The 'Truman Show' reference is perfect.
This is indeed really big in North Korea.
It’s crazy. But they do it.
Really enjoyed your North Korea vlogs. I like your open minded attitude and tendency to lean towards the positives of your experiences. Good on you for being brave enough to go out on this adventure and then share your experiences with the world!
I felt like I went through an entire journey through North Korea without leaving my room in Brisbane. It was awesome.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us! It felt like we were there with you, experiencing pretty much everything, and even though we didn't get to see some of things you did, it was still much more than we could get from like, a Google search.

Thank you, Kristen!

Well done Q&A. No way to avoid controversy around this country.
True that.
Those who you can talk to (like the guys in that shop...) are probably "specially trained" people (anyone who speaks english really is I guess), maybe even spies or something similar.
different levels of NPC's.... unfortunately, none give out missions....

Katie There’s starvation all over the world.
Katie north Korean aren't even starving anymore unlike in the late 90s. They improve their agricultural science and farming situation a lot and got rid of the famine crisis. North Korea is improving everyday while America is dying into degeneracy and destroying the earth.

The empty convenient store was so staged. I have never seen a store that perfect in my life. I felt like the locals in the area couldn't buy anything in there.

Yeah ok?! Lighten up Ali.

I hope that 4 years later you have come to realise that everything you experience in North Korea was just an act.
Love your videos!!
I'm really enjoying your travels. Thank you for being respectful of where you go and the people you meet and lacking ego and letting the place you visit speak for itself.
This Q&A was very good. Thank you for taking the time to do this.
Given this is a series paid for by NK, big doubt on caring about those who escaped lol
I love his response to the whole “funding regime” question...
Great Series!
i like what u do man.❤️❤️🙏 travelling around and sharing your experience good luck
Turkmenistan was isolated under its previous ruler but now it's open and has a approach similar to Bhutan.
Thanks Alaska, I just watched Dark Tourist. Very interesting.
This series was absolutely incredible!
Your money still goes to the government through taxes
Winterwacko Reborn taxes, which are spent by elected officials, not an unaccountable bureaucracy appointed by a dictator.
Thank you for the awesome DPRK series. I enjoyed seeing a different side of the DPRK from what is typically fed to the world via the media. Keep safe out there and I look forward to seeing what you share of your next adventures.
