Whoever is your guide is, he is good. He knows what is happening, can coordinate with the locals and outsiders, has really good English, and can be trusted. He'll go far, hope he gets a long life even with the state of the place he is living right now.
He seems like one of the best guides I’ve seen. He has so much empathy for his own people, like when he saw the toilet that outflows into the sea. He didn’t even know it existed! I would say I like him more than the guide from South Sudan. I hope he got paid for his troubles….because being a guide for a white foreigner could make the g-9 think he is an enemy combatant.

Haitian here. You have a lot of guts going to these places. Your guide has done a good job for sure. Hats off to him. It's always tricky to organize, it's like going on an expedition and everything bad could happen all at once.
The situation you described at the end happens multiple times every day and it's getting worse by the hour. So many ways to develop this country but the power in place won't allow it. Good job showing this side of our country to the people who still think it's fake. Be careful out there.
Whoever supplies with weapons and ammunition is the source of the problem here. Haiti can be as prosperous as the Dominican Republic. It's only a matter of will.

As a Haitian who has family that survived and managed to escape Cite soleil,
I’m so grateful at how respectful you are despite the otherwise extreme and at times, gross conditions. The way you held your breath despite what you’re seeing to gather yourself and use respectful wording to describe such a scene is so important and mature. Most people would say things such as “ Oh this is fucking disgusting. “ or “ Oh this is filthy “ without realizing that people don’t have a choice in how they live here and it always makes me so mad.
I have only been to the capital of Haiti to support my remaining family who are still trapped, I’m truly apologetic for what you have seen in this episode and the amount of trauma it may had caused. But you are doing something so noble that no other government has the guts to do. You are helping us by showing the world that we are suffering and you have my upmost respects.

My friend was a missionary in Haiti. He was shot and killed in front of a bank by some scumbag on a motorcycle. He laid on the ground with money flying and his passport open to his picture that was displayed on the CBC news. That's how his friends found out. He was getting ready to come back to his home in Quebec where his loving family awaited his return. I have so many mixed feelings from this experience. I never met a more giving and kinder person than Brother Richard. He was the most loved teacher at my high school in Winnipeg. I hope and pray that all his work was not in vain. I miss you Bro Rich.

The French once governed Haiti and it was a rather pleasant country way back then. The Haitians kicked the French out and attempted to govern the country themselves. White shopkeepers abandoned their stores and fled the country; Haitians took over the shops, not knowing how to run a business. They just ended up looting from each other.

@Dirk Digler I would argue that the people who are coming here are the ones escaping tragedy as opposed to creating the tragedy. I wouldn't say we're turning into a third world "cess pool" by any means. With that said, we've definitely got some issues to take care of.

I left Haiti in 1975, I was a teenager. When I lived there it was peaceful , children were able to play in the streets. really, it was fun. I cannot say that I had ever experienced hunger. The only problem I knew is that we had to leave the country in search of a better life when it comes to getting jobs and working on a career.
In spite of all the roblems, I am confident that Haiti will be restored to be even the most beautiful place in the world. I believe in this prophecy that says Haiti will be the light of the nations. Yes, the Most High God alone can do that . That is the only Hope for Haiti🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I hope you are right, but one challenge Haiti faces is that during the 1970s and 80s era you describe, about 80% of it's educated and professional class emigrated elsewhere. That makes it extremely challenging to perform the functions and build the systems needed to pull it out of poverty.
Yes iys true this is when papa doc was President its when haiti was la Perlles Des Antilles now is La Perlles of Gang Members me i left haiti in 29992 there was no mosery
It’s true because the Haitians are the descendants of the ancient levites in the Bible which was the priest tribe of the 12 tribes of Israel. The reason why Haiti is in the condition it’s in is because it was there job to glorify the most highs name and laws throughout the earth and failed. Also Haiti is the only country to successfully rebel against its slave masters and that’s why the white man will never truly help this nation.
If u ain’t leave hati befo the 80s u might be stuck
Duvalier Era, my parents grew during that time. They always say good things.
I went to Port Au Prince a year after the 2010 earthquakes. My father (I was 16 at the time) is a orthotic/prosthetic practitioner, so we volunteered to help people who had lost limbs or had any type of orthopedic pathologies. The first day I was there a huge storm developed (it was a hurricane) and everything was flooded.
What I will never forget, though, is a woman coming up to our group with a newborn in her hands crying hysterically. She was screaming and begging for us to help, but outside of CPR there was nothing we could do. We were in a tin shack much like what was shown in the video and the hospital (DWB) was too far. This all happened during the middle of that storm.
My time in Haiti, in those conditions, seeing that... gave me a much different perspective on the world. This video goes so far to show what happens in our world. You can't take anything for granted.
Your father is an awful man putting a young teen in that type of situation. Shame on him.
@@isrulius He offered it to me and I willingly went. I'm also following in his footsteps and became a licensed clinician, first year residency. So no, no shame on my father. The people in Haiti are incredibly resilient and I met some of the most gracious, loving people in that time. It gave me a life experience few get to have. Once I complete my residency and take boards, I will be volunteering again.

A year or so ago, I remember seeing footage of the aftermath of a "protest". Protest meaning a bunch of people got killed by the Haitian army. There were dead civilian bodies littering the streets, where wild pigs took the opportunity to make a meal out of them. How these people have become so desensitized, I just cannot imagine. Just seeing those images on a website made me question my humanity. I pray one day God will help these people.

You can never understand what "poverty" is until you see this. Truly horrible what these people go through every day.
I literally know this. I was adopted from an orphanage when I was 9 in Haiti. My brother was 13 he got to leave after the earthquake
Exactly. Meanwhile, people in cities like San Francisco and Seattle see a young, healthy white guy sitting on a street getting high all day while surrounded by a sea of opportunities and they start bawling and wailing. They have no idea actual poverty really is.
@@JohnDoe-mt7ws the problems in haiti are the result of the people there. if you want to bring race into the picture, maybe you should question why the maximum standard of civilization of a particular group of "people" is considered squalor to the rest of the world. you cant fix what isnt broken. @@joshjones718 I think you missed my point. I was talking about the bleeding hearts in liberal cities of US who claim homelessness in US is because of poverty.
I am saying homelessness in US is mostly due to drug and life style choices, not poverty. Places like Haiti, Africa, India etc have real poverty. I do agree poverty in Haiti is mainly due to local factors in Haiti: corruption, violence, crime, lack of emphasis on education etc.

The government can't fuck the people over if people don't give them the power to do it.
Sean’s courage and heart are huge, thank you sir for helping Nick to bring us the reality of what’s going on in your country. None of us have any idea what to even say at this point. I read that the UN has constant assistance programs operating especially in Cité Soleil but I’ve got to admit I didn’t notice it……
Sean and Nick are both brillant...👍
You should realize that everything the UN does, all the countries they operate in, UNICEF and all that, they're doing it all on literally half the yearly budget of New York City alone.
most aid is stolen by the government...just like they stole the earthquake money...If the developed world doesn't give, derpy people get upset...if they give then it just goes into the pockets of the criminal government and keeps them in power. It is sad.
@@jimjambananaslam3596 Yeah, but they evidently believe the 150 million Pakistan plan will be of some help. And I agree. It doesn’t need to be the billion dollar NY budget. But Nick is pointing out the presence of Doctors Without Borders, Third World Awareness, etc, whose resources are microscopic in comparison to even that. Our NGO’s are bearing the brunt everywhere is my main point.
You think the UN really cares about helping the people of Haiti? If they did, there wouldn't be the societal issues which are plaguing the country as they have been for years. If the UN really cared, then the US and France would be involved. They are not. The UN is a fucking joke and should be disbanded.

This video is eye-opening. I've been to Haiti twice within the past three years. I visited Cap-Haitien and Jacmel. Both ports were mentioned in the video and are beautiful, peaceful places, filled with tourists. You don't see anything this video is showing because you never, ever go anywhere near the Capital, not even the airport. There are even different airports in Haiti you can fly into to avoid the Capital. Ironically, I've heard the stories about Port-au-Prince, but this video is the closest I've come to seeing these conditions, and I've been there.
Your statement is true. There are alot of tourists coming to Haiti but mostly fly into the airport in Cap-Haitien and stay far away from the capital city. Plenty of videos on line showing how beautiful and non violent it is there. The gangs reach doesn't stem that far north or south at this time.
