The five presstuds at the bottom of the Poncho are for attaching to the presstuds at the bottom of the 58 pattern sleeping bag. Making a bivvy system 😊.
Yep used it that way in the Dutch army in 89/90 ....only the Dutch Marines had these poncho's. We in infantry had the WW2 model raincape so i bought one in a army navy store
I used my old issue one last year in a rainstorm and was soaked in seconds 😎😎 yours looks like a brand new buckshee 😎😎🍺🍺 I’ve now got the Snugpak patrol poncho. Cheers bud.
Spent many nights under these poncho’s back in the early eighties, 3 years as a cadet and another 3 as a TAVR infantry soldier, very robust brilliant bit of kit . It was part of the 58 webbing set and was carried in poncho carrier we use to call a ( Bum Roll) which was worn below the kidney pouches at the rear of the soldier, hence the name. Airborne troops had a tendency to wear their bum roll above the same pouches, which was a preference of mine, as it made the webbing more snug to the body when running with.
Had mine a long time bought it brand new. Use to use it a lot to wear in wet weather but then the pu coating started to peel off after only few years making it useless in wet weather so only occasionally use it now as a ground sheet.
Ok, still have my original issue one and i consider essential kit both as rainwear and as a shelter. In fact I’ve just ordered another mint one for around 30 quid but shock horror these are going for absolutely silly £ now. So guessing these will become very tricky to source. Bulletproof but yes a little heavy but remember how good it is on a wet evening especially if you fix 2 together. This video didn’t show it worn in poncho mode over top of a bergan… but it can. Get one whilst you can.
Granted little heavy, but lighter than a rain jacket and Basha combined. Ideal weight and size for the minimalist however. My channel is only to show case kit, with no personal opinion given. Viewers can make their own mind up given all the stats.

The Poncho was a good piece of kit, though no one was ever allowed to use it as a Poncho, only as a Basha!
I bought a surplus new old stock and the studs are used to attach it to a 58 pattern sleeping bag

The strip of 5 stud poppers at the bottom of the poncho are to attach it to a sleeping bad
Poppers at the tail are for connecting to the 58 sleeping bag
