The fact that they used a plastic Enterprise model for the Constellation in the actual episode makes me appreciate this that much more. It's both modern and old school at the same time.
@@hkfan746 What others did you rate high? My #1 is The Menagerie. Most others I've heard say either Balance of Terror or City on the Edge of Tomorrow . .
No matter how far CG models have come or will go, they cannot replace the way real objects occupy space or react to light. This is a great effort and a solid in between the original effects and the rearranged shots in the remaster.
VERY NICELY DONE!!!! This was ALWAYS my FAVORITE episode as a kid growing up... The the concept, the action, the visuals, the acting and the suspenseful music made this episode among the best of TOS if not ALL of Star Trek... If the ORIGINAL effects footage looked as good as you have done here, they wouldn't have had to remaster it!!! Bravo!!! and THANKS!!!
One of the most impressive things about this weapon was it's immensity, and even more impressive it's hull made of pure neutronium. Forged from neutron degenerate matter. Even solar radiation inside the orbit of mercury for a million years would not dent it.
Thank you so much! I especially loved seeing the glow from the nacelle ends reflected off of the other parts of the ship, and the shadows from the nacelles on the other parts of the ship!
I can’t be the only person watching this who suddenly senses where John Williams got his *ahem* “inspiration for the iconic Jaws theme from!! This is so blatant I feel whoever composed the score for this ep has a serious case against the Williams Estate! Jeeeeeez!! 😱😱😱🦈
@@TheJorgSacul Wish that there was recorded (archived) vintage visual footage that showed the actual orchestras producing the actual musical scores for the TOS episodes, and also vintage footage of the special effects sound designers who innovated and produced all the sounds that the enterprise made, bridge sounds, weapons sounds; especially the transporter sound effects. Doesn't exist though, I suppose we'll never know, too bad😞
1. You’re very demanding person. 2. That was never going to happen, to ask a cheap remastering team to get models so they can redo the scenes using models already is way to expensive, so they resorted to CGI which looks just fine honestly. You can’t lie, TOS looked terrible originally. But yes this does look really good
This is a real hint at what the serious could have been like with practical effects, but with modern polishing. I'd love to see you do this properly lit, with running lights and nacelles. Awesome work.
Well done. I think your Doomsday Machine is a lot more scary than the original. Every time I see the last scene of the Doomsday machine floating inactive I keep hoping that no one else finds it and reactivates it. I fall asleep to this episode. One of my favorites.
Excellent work. I like how you placed the light inside he doomsday machine a little deeper inside the tunnel which makes it appear to be more of a weapon. Also, the brighter nacelle lights reflecting on the saucer are great.
Superbly done! The models of the Enterprise and the Constellation, and the phaser effects were excellent, and I love the fact that you preserved the original TOS effects when viewing the Doomsday Machine face-on. I think your rendering is far better than the remastered version in every respect! Awesome work!!
Outstanding. I would love to see now a “The Making of..” with your motion control mechanisms, models, and all the other tricks you invested to create such a wonderful result.
I like the little detail that the back end of the nacelles on both ships were different; the Constellation had to old style “venty” hole things and the Enterprise had the later season domed ends. Neat detail that makes them feel like different ships of the same class. Nice touch!
I love the way you did this! Very realistic and believable movements of all the ships, really well-done additional effects like the final explosion. I'm glad you kept that original, 3D buzz saw look of the planet-killer's interior. Always thought that looked a lot more sinister than the glowing red interior of the blu-ray re-do.
Absolutely fantastic job on this. It makes me yearn for the original non-CGI SFX as I remembered them as a child. Hope to see your efforts on "The Ultimate Computer" episode!
Now you have to add Quint from Jaws. Quint: "All know me, know how I run a Starship. I'll neutralize this Doomsday Machine for ye but it isn't gonna be easy, bad machine. Not like going down to Cestus III chasing Harry Mudd or Klingons. This Planet Killer swallow you whole, a little shaking, a little power draining and down you go." "But we gonna do it quick to get your starship back fully charged. But it's not gonna be pleasant." "I value my neck more then for 3 thousand credits Commodore. I'll find him for thee but Ill catch em' and disconnect em' for ten." "Now you gonna make up your minds and Ante up, wanna play it cheap you'd be losing another star system." "I don't want no volunteers, don't want no tribbles, there's too many Garth's in this system.'" "Ten thousand for me by my self, for that you get the maw the anti matter pods the whole damn thing."
My god I can hear Quint saying this as ai read it .... All thats missing is a song. Farewell and adieu to you fair Orion ladies. Farewell and adieu to you ladies of pain. For I have received orders to warp out orbit so soon shall I never see you again!
Very nice! I love how you got the "reverse angle" images of the Enterprise. The shot of the Enterprise being pulled in backwards makes a lot more sense. Beautiful work.
Wow! Impressive. That was always one of my favorite episodes. I can remember being 7-8 - and my mom put that on the TV for me (because I was sick) and I watched that episode for the first time.
Absolutely *incredible* work, well done!! So great to see original and creative videos like yours, always brings a smile. My earliest memories are of watching TOS with my dad in the early 70s. Dude was a first-generation fan and would have loved to see your work here. Blessings!
well done. As a kid, I always liked episodes that were ship-centric more than planet centric for the most part. As a kid, I didn't know how much money Gene was saving using the same sets. But as I've been on this earth for a while and being a full time musician/entertainer, The Doomsday Machine remains my favorite episode for the soundtrack and the incredible acting job done by the man playing the Commodore. Through interviews, I heard it was the highlight of his career, and why not?
Very good! I love these kinds of fan projects! I love it! The Enterprise, Constellation and the Planet Killer look very good! Keep up the good work! Now, perhaps next time you could include the shuttle craft scene! There are are good shuttle kits available out there. Also, score one for the Constellation! She saved the Enterprise and avenged her commander and crew. Starfleet should add a planet killer to her kill record, and post-humously decorate her commander and crew. (By the way, well done on the phaser blasts! LOVE THEM!!!)
Thank you so much!! Yeah, unfortunately I have no shuttlecraft or shuttlecraft bay to re-create that segment. And I'm glad I finally figured out how to basic phaser blasts, so now I can hopefully move up to the Enterprise-A's weapons effects next!
Beautiful, first-class work. Excellent models, professional lighting and camera. The ventral supports visible at 3:05 might be removed digitally, but it doesn't detract from the rest of the effort. Thank you!
I love that your channel don`t modernize the original Constitution. I always want this, see the original way it was in the 60s but with high fidelity and resolution
Doomsday Machine is still among my all-time favorite episodes of ANY Star Trek series - they made the 2nd film based on the episode "Space Seed" - but this one could have also been made into a truly great film in the series ..
Reminds me of when I first watched the 2009 Blu Ray TOS where you could hit the 'angle' button on your remote and toggle back and forth between the original effects and the updated/remastered effects. 🖖
The episode’s scriptwriter Norman Spinrad has been a long time author of numerous science fiction novels that include “Bug Jack Barron”, “The Iron Dream” (which depicted Adolf Hitler as a novelist), “The World Between”, and “The Mind Game” (which was a thinly-veiled slam against L. Always loved that clip of Sulu turning in his chair and looking towards the Captain, like he was a little scared and concerned. @2:04
My favorite episode. The planet killer always scared the hell out of me. Well done!
I always felt this episode was a masterpiece. I credit Sol Kaplan's music, just perfect for this sort of adventure.
Agree 100%. It's the best episode if not, top three!
it had a bunch of plot holes and things that made no sense but still a very good ep.
