Jamaica has no shortage of prime real estate because it is still in a development stage. I think this facility serves a greater good by staying right where it is by giving the inmates a second chance at life. The price of teaching someone a trade to feed himself and raise a family is far more valuable than prime real estate.
They should move Tamarind Farm to Richmond Farm Prison St Mary Make a much bigger new State of the art minium/maximum prison facility will include and accommodate all the 2 prisons and future inmates and correctional staff workers Jamaica needs affordable housing build for it's poor it's senior aged and ppl with disabilities Seriously Fund it with tourism
They plan should be to remove all prisons to one new modern facility. One section for low security and one for serious crimes. There should be abaolutely no communication between the two sectional persons, whether workers nor inmates. A hilly non-agricultural space would be the best place.
The prison will have to remove from that location you cannot develop an area with a prison in the middle government need to start work on a 5-year plan to build a brand new high tech prison now
I agree with you that the prison should be removed. To what extent do we need a special low risk prison in Jamaica anyway. However as a Spanishtownian, i hate the peice meal development that is taking place in Spanish Town. Spanish Town needs a properly planned city center similar to the new one in Morant Bay. The buildings that house the civic center is close to 400 years old. This place is better suited as a museum where one could organize walking tours that points out the Spanish occupation of Jamaica and the invasion and transition to the English. There is also a Jewish historical site in the town that would attract many jewish visitors. Tamrind farm prison would be an ideal place for a Morant Bay type civic center. So too would be the new mall being built across from Tamrind farm prison. This would allow not only for a civic center, but a "massive"😂 transportation center and a "massive" jamaican produce market. These band-aid development in and around Spanish Town is driving the town into being a old ghetto town rather that a new modern city.
Spanish Town is a transportation hub between kingston and western jamaica. Professional planning is absolutely necessary. A plaza here and a plaza there is just the wrong development strategy to go into the future.

Sounds good on paper. In reality not sure if it would work. Criminals plan attacked from prison. Etc
Seeing as it’s farm land it probably won’t be moved as much of the farm lands to the north of Bernard Lodge is meant to remain farmland.

It is a smarter idea to remove the prison from close to the Kingston Harbour. Tower Street Correctional Center o.c. General Penitentiary (G.P.)
