Big Apple Herper oh yeah! I imagine in fall I could see up to 40(especially counting newborns). Also lots of copperheads which is cool since they are almost harder to find than timbers.
fantastic video! I just spent a day herping in harriman. I have been herping since im 7 - so almost 40 years and I have still never seen a timber rattlesnake. Very impressive and good to know there are healthy populations out there. Thank you for the conservation messages in your videos.
@@HudsonHerper I'm sorry. I just found video. Sounds to me like some poachers are posting. They mention places, towns, and landmarks and then ask you in question form to narrow it down by mentioning these places. I would hope that this is NOT going on...but it's very hard to give the benefit of the doubt to a population where at least half the folks would rather eliminate all pit vipers. They dont buy the facts about how many nice and rats that Timbers alone get rid of!! Didn't mean to leave such a negative comment, but I do hope they read it IF they are locating Timbers just to skin them and make trinkets out of them. I really enjoyed the video!!🐍🐍
Omg! You guys are brave! I didn't see any protection around your feet or legs! You never know, someone might be havin a bad day and your in a spot at the wrong time!
Boots and jeans. I know it’s hard to hike to some of these spots in the summer with jeans in my. But it’s harder to hike back to your car after being bitten
Cool stuff man, I love Timbers down here in PA. Later in the year hopefully I'll try for some NY ones, I have a few spots but not enough time to investigate
I live in western North Carolina and a county about 70 miles from Sylva which is 20 miles from Cherokee Indian Reservation and over past Asheville NC in a county called Madison County is the mother load some people might remember the crocodile hunter who had a TV show came from Australia to do a show on rattlesnakes and he picked Madison County to do the show and they were crawling all over the place in between his legs and it's a wonder he didn't get popped by one I don't think he realized what he was getting into over there they were going to den at that time and the ground was moving it looked like I'm sure a lot of people remember that show!
Hudson Herper. Hi, I have multiple questions. First, how many times did you search without success before you found your first timber rattlesnake? And now that you do have some experience under your belt, how do you find them? How do you make your search specific enough to find them consistently or even find a den? Also, so I found a timber in new York last October by this crevice, this august I went back and I'm pretty sure it was him, the same one, hanging out in that same crevice. Does that mean that is his den? But there were no others anywhere to be seen, do rattlesnakes sometimes den alone? Or did he den somewhere else and just came back to the same spot for the summer? Also I'd love to meet ya, maybe go herping, anyway, great video!
Hey, this was my first time looking and also my first time finding them. I have gone to different places a lot of times now and have yet to be skunked. If you saw it at the site in Oct. that is its hibernacula, or close to it. In summer it is possible to be the same one but could also very well be a different one, they look really similar besides minute details. I can talk more but not on youtube comments. Idk if there is some type of youtube messaging or what not.
Take your skills and experience seriously, pls. I learned the hard and unexpected way. After college and more than 100 field trips and locating 8-9 crotalus dens, I led two very interested andlong time friends of mine to two dens. On his own, one of them returned 4 days later with his girlfriend and killed 21 or more Timbers. That was 11 years ago. No more dens......
@@HudsonHerper I hate to say it, but the average person is horrible when it comes to anything in nature. When I was in my teens I remember beating the snot out of a guy that was stomping a mound of grass at a ponds edge trying to kill a very large Northern blotched. I stopped him, but not before he ripped off 2" of tail and fractured it's jaw. Almost three months of force feeding it before it was releasable. It had an incredible temperament. I was thrilled when the day came and it started eating on it's own.
Thank you for the videos it’s nice that people care enough to not want to kill these beautiful creatures
Damn dude that spot is a gold mine! Awesome stuff. Cheers

How do you not see a Timber Rattler in Harriman? They are everywhere including right outside the park in Suffern

It appears to me that they had on some kind of snake guard leggings.

That was awful thing to do.

That is beyond sad. An endangered species in many states. Your friend and his gf are two complete idiots. Ignorant POS.
