This is the kit are class. It’s British folk at heart. It’s not meant to be polished. It’s folk. It’s British. It’s ours, but to be enjoyed - please embrace and positive vibes only!

Man the number of people disrespecting Kate Stables in the comments. If you're looking for voice range, go listen to Celine Dion. She's writing her songs, and she's got an incredible voice because it feels real and full of emotion. You just need that, nobody cares about how many notes you play on guitar or how wide is your voice's range if the feeling isn't there.
This is the kit is freakin great and sounds different because of her and the band.

Not only is their music fabulous, but they are genuinely wonderful people too. I used to play at the Railway open mic night in Winchester back in the day and I was always in awe of them then.
I'm so glad they're doing so well, because they worked hard and have so much talent. I love and miss Roz & Kate and Roz's bro Sam very muchly :)

I'm not reading 200 comments but if you can't hear the complexity of what she is doing with her voice, record yourself and compare and listen how far off you are. The irony is that the entire song of Moonshine Freeze is talking about what she and the band are doing. If you don't like her stylistically, that is agreeabley, is one thing but if you can't hear the complexity of the music, and the vocals, you can't possibly have a creative background, where' you've attempted to bring spirit into the physical realm.

Alice Smith is plainly magnificent. As mentioned in a previous, strangely disappeared comment, although she does miss and flatten a note or two here, her opening phrasings, and various others throughout, are a descant to her underlying and implicit melody.
In her own incomparably expressive style, but in common with the respectively unique styles of the singing and playing of other original artists like Jimi Hendrix, Billie Holiday, Abbey Lincoln, Richard Thompson, Archie Shepp and more, Alice alternates conventional melody with both descant and discord to evoke and provoke the emotional and conceptual sense of what she sings and writes about.
She doesn't appeal to convention and she doesn't pander to it either.
She doesn't do nursery rhymes, and brother, she won't sell out regardless of what anyone will or won't buy.
The sense in her descants of being flat, out of tune or discordant is intentional; she often sings about the disjunction (discord) between hopes and wishes versus lumpen mundane perversity - or life and love gone wrong.
Her discord at 0:38 is intentional for this reason and she intentionally does it every time she sings that song.
    Jingle bells, she doesn't do.
Whenever she does miss or inadvertently flatten a note, she no doubt rues it and curses herself, but the purity and veracity of her expression, her soul, just turns the mistake into yet another evocative expression of the emotional freight she's carrying and delivering.
The integrity of her intention and feeling turns any errors into further permutations of the eloquence that repeatedly just roils up out of the honesty of her gut.
Sometimes she's a conflagration, sometimes she's all broken down, like us.
Everybody who knows and cares enough about honest music is going to be talking about her for a hundred years from now; everybody's going to be talking about how she burned the whole place down.
    ruclips.net/video/aHp8ZQJx2FE/видео.html
    and
    ruclips.net/video/xlFGCna3-Jc/видео.html
But there's not much point in any of this for anyone who doesn't know, norr want to know, much about these aspects of music in general and singing in particular, and who doesn't really care if they know what they're talking about or not.
But it's all right, if one doesn't know or really care, there's no need to say anything.
Other than that, she was plainly a bit nervous, which is a little unexpected, but probably because there seems to be no sense in which she's any kind of one trick pony.
She's one of the most uninhibited and unaffected performers anyone will ever see, but that's not her only trick . . . she knows what it's like on the other side too.
