Glad you noticed the music - most people don't. The score was done by composer Elmer Bernstein who did the music on classic films like The Magnificent Seven, The Ten Commandments, and The Great Escape among many others. One of the greatest film composers of all times.
Thanks for the reaction - very enjoyable.

All the older actors in this, Peter Graves, Lloyd Bridges, Leslie Nielsen & Robert Stack has mostly played serious roles, but their comedic abilities were all a joy to behold.

This is a masterpiece and I am so very glad it was done before the whole CANCEL CULTURE. It would never have been brought to a meeting room as a pitch idea if it had been today. This movie is the reason why I like sarcastic humor and dad jokes. Every time you watch it, you can see something you had not seen in the background. And some jokes are not really understood today but back then it was nuts (Like the two announcer in the beginning that talk about abortion, they were the real LAX announcer and married in real life, for example)
If I meet someone more than 35 years old that can't understand my Airplane! references, we can't be friends.
I was waiting in line once and a toddler tried to take a sip of a glass but naturally it went all over his face and the guy behind me chuckled and said "He's a bit young to have a drinking problem"... I lost it

When Ted is talking to the doctor in “give’em all they got” scene, they are referring to a Ronald Reagan film “The Knute Rockne Story” about a early football player and celebrated coach at Norte Dame. It is the second Ronald Reagan joke in the film. A good but kind of short reaction. Enjoy reacting to great movies!

The ‘70’s had a barrage of “disaster” movies. E.g., Airport, Towering Inferno, etc. This movie was a spoof of those, and many other things.

    1. I guess I picked the wrong week to stop watching "first time reaction" Airplane clips.
    2. This movie requires more than one watch in order to catch as much as possible. Little things to look for:
A woman throws a baby into the air when the jet crashes through the glass.
Ted was a Captain in the Air Force but at the bar he's wearing a Navy Lt. Uniform.
Elaine's trombone sounds like a cornet.
Two Hari Krishnas actually leave the airport by plane.
One of the fish was a freshwater catfish.
Captain Kramer steps out of a mirror before leaving for the airport.
The woman with the horse in bed is the creepy Captain Oveur's wife. She is also hitting on to Captain Kramer.
It's a jet but the background noise is of a prop plane.
The ambulance crashes after the plane lands.
    3. Otto/Auto pilot has his own webpage on IMDB
    4. Elaine has permission to sit on MY face.😍😋
    5. IMVHO Airplane II doesn't suck. Destination moon.

The next film by the trio that wrote & directed this is called 'Top Secret!' I'd describe it as a mash up of an Elvis beach musical movie and a WWII espionage film with a HEAPING helping of absurdity (like this) starring a young Val Kilmer in his first lead.

There was an actual mass food poisoning incident on a plane in 1975 where nearly 200 people got sick due to contaminated breakfast omelets. By pure luck, the pilots’ biological clocks were still on Alaska time and they had ordered steak dinners instead. So they were able to get an emergency landing and land safely.

Oh HEY! Lucky me, I have info no one else has shared yet!
The scene you thought was serious, the "buck-up" speech the doctor gives about George Zipp and "Win just one for the Zipper" is actually from an old film called Knute Rockne: American Hero. He was the heroic coach of the the Notre Dame Fighting Irish college football team. He made that speech during * half-time of the Army game in 1928.
    Here it is:
ROCKNE: Well, boys ... I haven't a thing to say. Played a great game...all of you. Great game.
(He tries to smile.) I guess we just can't expect to win ‘em all. (Rockne pauses and says quietly). I'm going to tell you something I've kept to myself for years -- None of you ever knew George Gipp. It was long before your time. But you know what a tradition he is at Notre Dame...
*(There is gentle, fa* raway look in his eyes as he recalls the boy's words). And the last thing he said to me -- "Rock," he said - "sometime, when the team is up against it -- and the breaks are beating the boys -- tell them to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Gipper...
(Knute's eyes become misty and his voice is unsteady as he finishes). I don't know where I'll be then, Rock", he said - "but I'll know about it - and I'll be happy."*
There is a hushed stillness as Rockne and the crowd of boys look at each other. In the midst of this tense silence, Rockne quietly says "Alright," to the men beside him, and his chair is wheeled slowly out of the dressing room.
PLAYER # 12: Well, what are we waiting for?
With a single roar, the players throw off their blankets and rush through the doorway.
Also...the REASON I clicked on the video was the word "literally" in your thumbnail. LOVE IT! You changed it just enough to stand out. Keep this up! (I'd love to do a collab some time with you if you're interested. I have been planning to react POLICE SQUAD by these same folks also starring Leslie Nielson!)

"Can you fly this plane, and land it?"
    "Surely you can't be serious."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
Classic comedy. Laugh a minute and very quotable.
Fun Fact: In a 2008 interview, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar told the story of being on a European flight and asked to sit in an empty seat in the cockpit during takeoff so the crew could say they flew with Roger Murdoch.
White-Red Zone Fact: Regarding the argument between announcers concerning the white and red zones at the airport, the producers hired the same voice artists who had made the real-world announcements at Los Angeles International Airport. At the real airport, the white zone is for loading and unloading of passengers only, and there's no stopping in the red zone (except for transit buses). They were also married to each other in real life.
Casting Choice Fact: Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker chose actors such as Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, and Leslie Nielsen because of their reputation for playing no-nonsense characters. Until this film, these actors had not done comedy, so their "straight-arrow" personas and line delivery made the satire in the movie all the more poignant and funny. Bridges was initially reluctant to take his role in the movie, but his sons persuaded him to do it.

This is a slapstick comedy. There's a lot of wordplay & visual humor.
The Mayo Clinic is a real hospital. You can google it. The visual joke is that mayonnaise is also called mayo.
The interactions in the terminal reflect airport security before 9/11 changed everything. Solicitors were allowed in the terminal.
Thank you for recognizing that this is a comedy. Some reactors get so confused by the humor, since they somehow thought a movie whose poster shows a plane twisted into a knot is a drama with some humor.

Glad you enioyed it :) I mean people tend to be very sensitive these days, so I'm not surprised some haven't understood that it's meant to be funny. I'm aware of slapstick comedy as well, but tend to think of it as more physical/violent humour than the inclusion of subtle or intelligent wordplay.
