I'm lucky in that I never had an abusive teacher. Mean, yes, but not abusive. It's sad to think that some kids have to go to school fearing their own teacher and many places won't do a thing about it.

In Grade 3 I had a very bad teacher who had a history of singling out 1 student in each class (usually the quieter ones) for scapegoating. That year it was me. She used to make all the students read out test/quiz scores in class for purposes of humiliation & singled me out quite frequently. I feared complaining to my parents as I thought they would just stick up for a fellow adult. I was WAY wrong, however I think that had they gone to the principal about it, he would have defended said teacher and I would have faced retaliation by her (because the complaint would have been reported to the teacher). There was no other Grade 3 teacher that year so I could not have been moved out of that class. This is more than 30 years ago so no IPhones or even cell phones existed!

In 7th grade gym class, my mom gave me a note to skip class because a cat had attacked me and I fell out of the tree a day before. The teacher bent down took the note, ripped it up, threw it in my face and laughed. I had to participate and it was wrestling. My mom was pissed and the teacher got suspended.

We had a bad female gym teacher and the school always ignored complaints. That is until she took pictures of the girls in the girls changing rooms, but all they did was suspend her for that. Then it got out she was suspended and why and the school didn’t like that and suspended a boy in my class for telling everyone, even though he didn’t tell anyone, their only proof he lived on the same street as the teacher in question. There was literally a room full of witnesses who could have and did tell everyone, but guess the school was more concerned about protecting a potential sexual predator than the kids.

At my highschool, there weren't bad teachers if I recall. But we did have some sketchy substitute teachers. We had this one called Mr. Stephen (yes he asked us to call him by his first name) and he would always hang around the girl students. Once I had him for P.E and we weren't doing anything that day so we didn't dress out. People were still playing softball in their clothes but I was wearing a dress so I didnt. And he asked me if I would be sliding to bases in that and that he'd like to see it. I was thoroughly creeped out and told my p.e teacher when he came back and we never saw that sub again thank goodness.

An incident I will never forget when I was 13 years old. A friend in my class was very poor financially, every time I go on break, I come back from break and always something was missing from my back bag. In my country we don't change class rooms. so we leave all our stuff in class and we go on break. so one time I went on a lunch break, and I waited to see if he would steal my stuff, I caught him sneaking in to the class and taking my pencils and belonging. He kept doing it every often. one time we were in class, and the teacher was talking, so I went to grab my pen, and to find I have non, so I got mad because I would see him using my stuff, and he would always sit next to me in class, and act like everything is fine, but I couldn't do anything or tell anybody because I was young and scared not to believe me. so we got in an argument in class, and kinda interrupted the class room, the teacher was always mean, and nice to him because he would act innocent and poor. the teacher then walked to us and started yelling at both of us, so she asked what is going on, I replied "he always steals my stuff from my bag when I go to lunch", then she asked him if he really did, he denied. and then started crying and acting that he is right. after that, the teacher got so mad because I accused him of stealing in front of the class room. and guess what, she made me go up and stand in front of the class mate, and she hit me with a ruler on my palm like three times. I went home that day and told my parents, they went to school and talked to the principle, but non was done to get me my revenge, until today I still remember and I hate that teacher for what she did to me.

The only adult witness, the security guard. Just gave the boys a warning to not do it again. It happened again in the same school were I was picked up by neck in the play ground and thrown down to the cement floor. almost cracking my head open. they took me to the nurses offices and told my mom I fell and hit my head. never mentioning what really happened. things only got worse as I got older. not to long ago I tried to commit sucicide for the third time.but instead was sent to a mental hospital. my story is out to my family and we're closer than ever. speak out!! don't stay quiet! it will all get better I promise :)

Got this teacher called Tony Clark who traumatised my family for our primary school years. He groped girls in front of me, talked in a sexual manner to them, complemented the size of their cleavage, he used to scream at us boys and throw things like pens and rulers at them which made my friend cry. We spoke to the principal of East Manjimup Primary School and he knew about Tony and what he was doing to us all but suffered no consequences. Cardinal rules of classroom management and professionalism for teachers:
    A) Use proximity, names, eye contact, and tone to give warnings- not shouting, humiliation, or physical contact.
    B) do not interact with students on social media- PERIOD.
    C) there's nothing wrong with asking another teacher to watch your class for a few minutes if you need to collect yourself or calm down for a moment.
    D) sometimes, it's far scarier when a teacher whispers and expresses disappointment in kids' behaviour than when he or she screams and shouts until they're red in the face.
E)if you've got a"problem student," work together with fellow faculty members to find effective disciplinary methods- chances are, they've had trouble with this kid too and might just know why the child is having issues, what triggers behavioural problems, or what works best for dealing with an issue.
    F) there's nothing scarier to a child than being handed a phone and told to explain to mum or dad what it is they've done
    G) while some moments may warrant extreme reactions-if students may be in danger, for example, these moments are rare. Save the shouting for those times when you need an immediate response.
    H) there is never any reason to strike a student. Unless perhaps he or she is choking or needs CPR.
    I) don't use writing as a punishment. It's just ineffective and makes kids hate words

Those are very good rules to have. And definitely proves that I don't have the patience to be a teacher. I can teach some things especially about animals because I've taught a lot to my niece, nephew and cousins but there's no way I'd be able to keep my cool all the time day after day. At least when I lose my cool around my cats they just ignore me. Kids couldn't ignore that.

He shouldn't even have a golf club at school ! And the person whom he blamed, can go to court, and say "He's lying !", because how else would the classmate have broken it ? You can't just say "Oh, I stomped on the floor really hard." because the sole of your shoes are rubber. You would need a harder substance than rubber to just break something as strong as what the floor is made out of. Metal would be one of them. I had a teacher that even the A* students were afraid of. We would line up outside her classroom as we weren't to enter without her in the classroom.
We would have to put up with her yelling at us. Always having to be super well behaved if the teacher was having a bad day. You know something's not right, when you have to worry about your teachers mood, instead of your education.
Near the end of the school year, we were placed in tables compared to our grades. All the "dumb" kids as she put it, on one table the "smarter" kids.
    Learning is a joy.

In 3-5th grade my gym teacher Mr. Zelinski (yes I'm not afraid to post his name) would look up girls skirts when they walked by, he would yell at us for no reason, He let the bully kids cuss and physically hurt us. One day in the middle of the year I got a bloody nose and I asked to go to the nurse and he said no . So I asked him to go to the restroom and he said ," Why are you asking me this again?" And my classmates all went to one side of the room and we counted down to 3 and we then bolted out of the classroom. I got him fired. But another time before he was fired, there was a random cigarette-butt on the gym floor and he freaked out at us fifth graders and screamed at every kid if they even smelled like smoke. My friend Brooke has a parent that smokes so she tried to explain why she apparently smelled like smoke and he sent her out for external suspension (which was denied) and then we yelled back at him and POOF new gym teacher!

When I confronted her at a teacher conference she looked at my doctor and demanded "Tell your mother what REALLY happened. That's not what happened, IS IT Carol?" My daughter, being afraid, just froze and I KNEW the guilty party was that evil lady! when I was in kindergarten through grade 4, I was terrified of loud noises, especially fire alarms. All through those years, I always had a buddy (one of my friends) with me during fire drills, otherwise I would go into a full on panic attack. My 2nd grade teacher on the first day of school told me in front of the entire class that I was a crybaby and refused to let me have a fire drill buddy. I should say that all my teachers were told that I was to have a buddy during fire drills and all teachers knew. I was also getting bullied by a boy at the same time. Whenever I went up to her and told her that it was happening and I wanted it to stop, she turned it around and accused me of bullying him. My mom eventually got sick of it halfway through the year and pulled me from the class and I did work in the office all day.

I'm a teacher and watching this makes me sick... these poor kids. No child should be scared to go to school because of their teacher. There is such thing called "burn out" that teachers can suffer from. Working with kids can be mentally exhausting so if you start to feel irritable and impatient maybe it's time to evaluate and take a vacation or time away. Teachers are human too but it's never okay to harm or verbally abuse a child even if its unintentional because you are having a bad day.

I had a few horrible teachers, I can count at least 4 who shouldn't have been teaching in the first place. I recall my 1st grade teacher Ms Alford, had severe mood swings and would throw books or pencils at walls, kick the tiny desks out of frustration, yell aggressively when someone would take too long to complete an assignment, ask for more time, not sing a song correctly or on pitch (seriously how many 6-7 yr olds can sing on key, let alone enunciations their r/w/l sound correctly ?), constantly NAG at everyone for not saying r/w/l sounds in words correctly , and get all angry over the tiniest spontaneous thing that wasn't in her control. She yelled a lot and got mean and would say "what the hell" a lot. She became pregnant in the end of the school year but man was she HUGE super early. She left the school like a week or two before kids did. Looking back she could've been bipolar or had some mood swing non otherwise specified diagnosis, or was in dire need of one.

I’ve had horrible teachers and administrators who never cared about students and made me never ever want to go to school. However I love my art teacher ms Lovin. She always made me feel safe and happy in her classroom. She was strict but fair and she was only strict to keep a calm and safe environment in her classroom so that everyone had a quiet safe time in school and people always went to her instead of the guidance counselors because she would push for action by administrators if something wrong was happening rather than brushing it under the rug. She also was the reason three special ed students who thought they’d never be able to do anything outside of highschool were not only able to go to college but also able to live on campus because she contacted their parents and sat them down and helped them get in contact with the resources necessary so their kids could live on campus and still be safe and cared for (colleges assign a few students to specific teachers who will live in the same hall in a dorm and will come check in on the students and will be there to help their kids while still allowing them the first step into independence, as well as helping teach them some basic life skills that normally parents do so the kids didn’t think of and didn’t know how to do) she’s an amazing teacher and the type of person I think every teacher should aspire to be. I know I hated school and would get sick just thinking about it and I’d come into her classroom and it was a weight off my shoulders every single day

As support staff, I worked with a teacher who didn't know how to teach or accept learning differences. She insisted that I stand in the far side of the classroom, not move and let my student do his work. The class were to copy the date off the board. My student didn't know his letters let alone to put them down on paper. He couldn't do what was asked of him. She walked around the room, coming to my student who hadn't written anything, she pounded on his desk. "Stop being so lazy and get to work." She walked away frustrated. I saw my student's eyes pleading for help and about to cry. I disobeyed her orders and did go help. We pronounced every letter, we had been practicing letter sounds, and he got the date written down on paper. I was so proud of him. I think of him often and hope he is doing well and continuing to do his best. As I do with all my past students.

+Osiris Malkovich : There are some 30,000 teachers here in BC. No news about any of them. But if just one of them "breaks the rules" then it makes the front page in 100 point font.
Obviously, these violations are extremely serious as they involve defenseless children in many cases. but the amount of publicity that surrounds each even is driven by ratings and sensationalism and the desires of the publicist. Way out of proportion.

Results of the investigation, evidence presented and challenged for veracity, etc. The sort of thing that goes with a fair investigation. So who went unpunished? What is the matter? Cat got your tongue?
Or is this just another example of the "smear" job?

In 1996 my son had a horrid teacher by his assessment, I took to sitting in classroom 3hrs a day for a week writing exactly everything she said and kids responses for a week. It was very taxing for me but that teacher in TX wasn't in the classroom the next year after I took the report to the principal and moved my son to special ed as other first grade rooms were full. Of the remaining 18 kids, 17 were found to have to repeat first grade but my son was safe. Special ed teacher was sweet but didn't teach anything to any kids. He was diagnosed with Aspbergers but not educated so I homeschooled. He is amazing now...except PTSD.

The final straw for me dropping out of high school in 2001 was an abusive teacher. He wasn't capable of handling the stress of the job, would bring a coaches whistle to class to use it to scare the crap out of kids. It was an old school, so the way to open windows involved a large wooden rod with a hook on it, he'd often use that to slam it as hard as he could on his desk (one time breaking it in half).
I already had one foot out the door, as I wasn't really learning anything anyway (the education system in Newfoundland doesn't have many options beyond simply going to class, instead of outreach or online classes that may be available now). This guy put me so far over the edge that I just couldn't handle being there any more.
Happy to say I have a degree now. It took a bit longer because I am a drop-out, but it wasn't the end of the world.

My 6th grade teacher was my favourite yet most terrifying teacher I had ever had . He was one of 2 male teachers out of the entire elementary school. He was really nice and happy almost all the time . We always played games and watched movies all the time so much so that he got in trouble with the principal and was told he wasn't teaching enough . He didn't really change and next week even snuck us out of the school to down town to look at some of the towns new statutes and made us swear not to tell . The other 25% of the time he would have random out bursts ... screaming and yelling at us for the smallest things , his most famous thing he was known for in our class was how he threw white boards, markers , text books , and reading books. One time he even hit a girl I new with the white board he had thrown out of anger . Looking back at it now he seems pretty bipolar but still a pretty cool teacher. They took the 6th grade out and now he is teaching in the new middle school.

Lonely Hearts Club, you look pretty enough to make your teacher jealous of you. Never mind that, you do need to go back to school and STUDY regardless of your teacher's screams. Never mind her sarcasm. You just get on with your studies. Looking at you, I could say that you will have some men taking advantages of you. Many will exploit you, while you are so pretty. Some will trade on your good looks and body, if you let them. Believe it or not, looks is not everything. One minute, men are charming and sweet to you, the next minute they offer you drugs, so to get you hooked, have you depending on them for quick fixes and put you working on streets. Girl, raise your standards high and get back into studying. After school, your decide where you want to go.

Last year, I had what I thought was the best math teacher ever. He was really good at helping me and other students understand math. Tyem, right after Christmas break, we were told he was out of school because his mom was sick. Then we got letters that he had taken a long leave to take care of his mom. Next thing I knew, one of my best friends texted me a Facebook article about his arrest warrant for sexual assult. Turns out, he had two other accounts, dateing all the way back to 2001. Then, the sub they replaced him with, messed with the grades of students she didn't like, and never taught us anything. Eventually, so many students complained, they fired her, and we all were put with other math teachers at the school. To say the least, it shocked me and my family, cuz we were unaware of any of this.

One particular day, my birthday, he made me run a lot longer than everyone else. I had an asthma attack, and he stands there doing nothing. I was there, literally dying, and he does nothing. Eventually i was sent to the nurses office to lay down for a while. i got better physically, and went back to class. I was traumatized after that day. He didnt even get fired, he just retired the year after. I was glad he was retired, glad he cant hurt more kids physically and mentally. please realize that these things happen, especially in america.

The high school I went to in the late 90’s wasn’t the best for someone like me. I was bullied mercilessly by around four boys. To this day, I STILL have no idea what made them decide to treat me like trash! Anyways, I told my Mom about the bullying from the boys. She told me to ignore it at first, but she saw firsthand at the torment I was facing from the bullies when she came to school! They were harassing and torturing me, trying to and actually snatching my crutches from me when I had a broken foot! The worst was this happened during the class change, so not only did the students ignore me and never bothered to help, but the teachers failed to stop the bullies as well! Mom was PISSED! She tried to talk to the principal at the school, but he did NOTHING to stop or enforce proper punishments! And when I defended myself against the bullies, I got suspension for days, but the bullies got detention. I think this was because I had a mental disability, so I was treated with little or no respect from certain students and teachers. Irony of it all, this high school was the same one my Mom went to when she was a teen! So my Mom felt that the school she trusted failed to stop the problems that happened to me! Mom finally decided to switch me to another school, which was a good thing! The bus rides were the same with bullying, but the bus garage managed to kick one boy to another bus for going to far by pouring cologne on my head, since the bottle he brought was broken. I think he was trying to make me a laughingstock on the bus, or thought he’d be the cool one for what he did to a girl on the bus!

This is important.A teacher I had last year (I live in Canada) said that I had anxiety. So I had to go to a group on Thursdays and then I went to a doctor and he said that I didn't have anxiety. Lucky for me she left the school and I went to a different school XD
