You are partially correct here coz - 1. The CD drive data transfer rate is usually slower than that of hard disk's (due to lower bandwidth of CD drive) 2. To get the max performance replace the HDD with SSD and CD drive with the removed HDD This config will give max performance And the thing required is known as Caddy
Not all laptop DVD rom can utilise the full speed of ssd (sata 3 speed) what i recommend is use a m.2 ssd or ssd in your main HDD caddy for os and use your old HDD in your cd/DVD drive for storing games or "study material" 😉
As this trick mostly for old laptops, hence most old laptops (bios) don't support booting from the the DVD drive interface. So you have to put the HDD in the place of DVD drive using a caddy and put an SSD in the SATA interface place from where that HDD is taken out. In simple words don't place the boot drive ( OS installed drive) in the place of DVD drive.
That's exactly what my sister did.
Now the laptop opens in 3-5 seconds, previously it took 2-3 minutes.

It depends on your ram if it's ddr4 it will support otherwise not
You must not put SSD on CD drive slot as it is not cooled well enough instead,put it where hdd was installed

This is actually good advice, did it couple of years back... Laptop good as new.
Instead replace your HDD with SSD and use that HDD in place of DVD. DVD SATA port has less bandwidth than that of HDD SATA port.
