The visualizer for "Akala" was dropped only about 27 hours old, Dennis, so you're not that late! Always look forward to your reaction and commentary as a genuine foreign-born A'tin! 🙂
When he said, "buti pa dito may tama" or as the CC translated "it feels right to be here". That really doesn't quite capture what that wordplay meant. "Tama" means "right" or "tipsy/ drunk". In this case, Pablo said, there's at least a "right" on being "tipsy" (because everything else in his life is going wrong-- wordplay 'right and wrong').
Just so you know, Pablo and Josue don't have vices at all. For what I know about Pablo, he doesn't like alcohol. He makes barfing sounds and gesture when he sips on alcohol. He's just a very good storyteller because he can pull out emotions from people with his lyrics and music even if he didn't experience them himself. He's putting himself in the shoes of those who turn to alcohol to forget their problems. He was never one, though, because he has such a grip to his faith in God. He prays a lot. Their family are Christians who really have strong faith.
The English captions are not at all the best and most accurate translation. He's basically just saying he thought alcohol can take away all his problems but he knows it doesn't. That's why in his verse, he said, the first time I tasted it, I didn't like it. Should I make this (liking the taste of liquor) something that I need to learn, too? (Because he already has so much in his mind to begin with). And then he said, juice, juice, juice, OMG... just pour out juice for me. He's using wordplay on "juice" and the Filipino term for God which is "Diyos". He was crying out to God on that verse.
Pls don't misunderstand his lyrics for encouraging people to drink. That's just purely missing the mark.

I was actually surprised that this is how Dennis interpreted this because I watched other non-Filipino reactors and they got the message. One was thinking it was about drinking at the first verse and started preaching about the dangers of drinking and then by the end of the song, got what the song was all about. It's not an ode to alcohol but a message that drinking alcohol will not solve one's problems
I agree that English sub titles/ translations do not capture the real message written in Tagalog. A simple word can be interpreted in so many ways depending on the message & each individul perspective.I always thought, if the song of Pablo will be put to a debate, it would surely be an interesting subject of debate.😂❤ thsnkz agsin Dennis for supporting our boys, Jose & our beloved Pablo. ❤

AKALA means I thought = I’m mistaken. The overall message of the song doesn't recommend getting drunk; on the contrary, it says "I thought (akala) alcohol (alak) will solve my problems.." (but it doesn't).. maybe in the beginning of the song drinking is thought to escape reality, but only to find out it's not the answer... so in the latter part of the song they mentioned the answer is juice - (sounds like "Diyos" which is Filipino for God)... in the middle of the song, they said pour me "juice lang" (juice only).. they're rapping super fast it's hard to catch it all even if you speak the language. Also, Pablo is known as someone who doesn't drink. ;) Thanks for the RV and your honest thoughts. :)

Hi Dennis! Pablo took it back in the end and he actually meant just pour the juice instead of alcohol and the juice is the one he says "feels right". He actually gave an interview with Billboard about this.
Pablo gave an interview in Billboard PH about this song and he said “Even though we have different practices in terms of drinking, we agree on the idea that alcohol is not the answer to problems. I asked him if I could also write my verse in the song and tweak some parts, and he agreed. I didn’t want the song to just be about getting wasted, so I thought of a way to introduce my perspective through rearranging the letters of ‘alak‘ (alcohol) and that’s how ‘Akala' (wrong notion) materialized. My mother also pitched in a line in the song and it made more sense.” People have been asking Tita Grace on twitter which line she composed. 😊
I thought to explain the deeper meanings of Tagalog lyrics, Dennis. I know you're surprised with the song. For example "juice" sounds like the Tagalog word for God so when he sings "juice, juice, jusko po di ko na malaman ang gusto nyo" it's like a lamentation "Lord, lord, my God I don't know how to follow what you want". And then for the line "siguro nga ito lang ang sagot yeah juice juice jusko po di ko na malaman ang gusto nyo" he means "maybe the answer is yeah the Lord, the Lord. (then it changes tone) But Lord I can't figure out what you want." It's really not just about getting wasted. Thanks always for your support. I know you are concerned so I had to weigh in. @szevangelista thank you. I wanted to clarify it too with Dennis. The CC truly didn't give this song justice. If there's anyone in SB19 that I have full trust in making meaningful lyrics that give hope and encouragement, that would be Pablo.

There is an important key points thats hard to understand because of the language barrier.
The song basically means that he thought alcohol would solve his problems, but it didnt.
"JUICE, JUICE, D'YOS KO PO"
Juice and D'yos has similar sounds. D'yos is a short cut for Diyos which means God. In this song juice represents his faith in God.
Then In the next lines he ask for JUST THE JUICE. Means he dont want alcohol anymore, just juice because drinking juice feels right and he never thought all his worries would fade with drinking juice alone.

I went to their Wish Bus performance last night, it was FIREEEEE!!!!The Wish Bus experience is very different in many aspects, I'm glad I travelled 50 kms just to see Pablo!!! Also, you are quite on time Dennis, this is a freshly released song - welcome and let's dive in to Pablo's solo this year!!
Akala in this context equates more to "I thought wrong". So it's basically an anti-alcohol song saying that drinking isn't the solution. More of tried it (didn't even like it) and got disappointed.

A lot of Tagalog word plays here that a foreigner may not understand, Pablo is basically saying alcohol is not the answer, only God is! But you can't get this with the English translation.

The wordplay in this song is just awesome. For my part, it’s messaged received - Alcohol is NOT the solution to our problems. Incredible how they are able to give positive messages so creatively.
Alak (liquor) akala (I thought) mawawala ang aking problema- the words sound similar and basically say I THOUGHT alcohol would erase my problems.
Even when they say Shat. It’s cool how they mean it literally as “shot” or give me another shot - but it also seems like a way not to say sh*t. So clever. Mind blowing 🤯
Great vocals. Powerful message. Alcohol momentarily lets you forget your problems, yet not only do the problems not disappear, but other problems could be caused from the alcohol, Addiction, DUIs, Anger ect.

Or much less use it as a banner song for his solo ventures.

Hi Dennis, just want to share short interpretation of the song. Some people tend to drink alcohol when theyre having problems because they think problems will go away but its wrong thought or notion (maling akala). Instead, for them, juice is a replacement. Juice sounds like Dios ko po or My God. Its a Filipino expression, "Dios ko po" which they change it to juice ko po. He actually wrote it very artistically.
Pablo and Josue was referring to the Juice as their main drink instead of alcohol, they said in the middle of the song. pour the juice.

I think Josue/Pablo refer Life as "she" in this song

She is Life in general (I had to backtrack and re-listen/read the lyrics to understand it), they gendered it like how people gender Karma.
"the stars" is 'to get high' i.e. not be in the poopy present
'juice, juice, jusko po" is an alliteration and word play, jusko = jus (short for Jesus) + ko (my) hence the 'my God!'
"the world keeps/still spinning/spins" i.e b/c of effects of alcohol and because the tomorrow still comes - nihilism; feeling that nothing changes so might as well get wasted
'shat' is used as the euphemism for the obscene exclamainion for "sh*t" and a word play for poop
the background music's beat and "alak, akala" alliteration palindrome is the sound of someone chugging the vice (because ANYTHING can be a vice, whether legal or illegal/prohibited)

I understand that there are phrases that you misunderstood. This is not an "ode to alcohol" in fact, its the opposite. Some Filipino words are hard to directly translate it to english specially Pablo uses wordlpay and palindrome. U just need to dig in to his lyrical writing skills to be able to get the context. just like most of the comments have already indicated and explained, this reaction is probably a product of “language barrier” but i’m really sorry to say this, for this reaction, i am quite disappointed.

Yes, me too. I was actually disappointed with the Close captions. For a non Filipino speaker, it made sense why Dennis misunderstood it. The CC translation didn't give this song justice. Hugely lost in translation! If there's anyone I fully TRUST to give us 💯 meaningful and faith-based lyrics, it's Pablo our Pinuno. He will never do an "ode to alcohol". The tone of voice that Dennis is referring to that as if they were singing a "love song" to alcohol, that's 100% missing the mark. In fact, they were sounding somber, as if there is so much sadness and despair in their voices.
Dennis, check out the live version of this as sung by Pablo and Ken in their BITZ concert I think. You will see how dramatic this song is and how they showed that alcohol is not the answer to problems.
Dennis, I hope u read through your comments. And am hoping, that as an A’tin for years now, ur able to get the message of the song.. most esp that this was written by Pablo.
