I'm planning to reread 'Strange the Dreamer' this month, it's my all-time favourite book, and in strange times like these it's nice to reread a book that's close to my heart.
Currently reading "Educated: A Memoir" and just finished "The Silent Patient", which I could not put down and finished in one sitting. Highly recommend both!

that is one of my favorite books ever!! other books i’d recommend that include female companions/sister-ish relationships are the color purple and by the light of my father’s smile by A. Walker, the secret life of bees by S M Kidd. idk if this will be up your alley, it’s not really similar to a thousand splendid suns, but my absolute favorite is into the wild by J. Krakauer. hope you find these tips helpful x
I just love your joy of reading! It’s so evident by how you smile while talking about books. It’s contagious! Can’t wait to read some of these recommendations.
Just what I needed today! Was about to head for a run to the park and lay out my blankets and speakers with some jazz and read. I don’t know who else to trust for stimulating reads other than you. Love the commentary.
Really liked the recommendations! But I'd like to add that social psychology more generally suffers from the replication crises. The book mentioned a study about the relationship between social media and suicides in females. This ended up not replicating in different contexts. It's more like a bidirectional relationship: people who are sad tend to use social media more. Haidt has since updated his opinions!
I love reading, thanks for the commentary as well. I found many things you were saying also relates to the teachings of Jesus, God, and the word. Like not thinking everyone is bad or good everyone is going through something, we are to mingle with those who are not like us, etc. When we are feeling incapable, nothing is ever impossible for God! Hope everyone has a blessed day!
I love these types of vids so much just because reading and the whole culture around it are such a cozy, yet mind-bending experience and my brain lights up whenever I get more titles to put on my list of books that need to be read, these all sound hecka interesting in their own respective ways, thank you sm for proving more brain food ^°^
Hey Jenn! I doubt you'll ever see this, but I just wanted to say I love your videos!! I love how genuine, positive, and helpful they are :) They've helped me get a better outlook on life when things get tough. Thanks for always making amazing content. I know it's not much but I'm definitely rooting for you!!
Highly recommend reading The Starless Sea. It's a wonderfully confusing jumbled magical trip tumbling through colliding fables and fairy tales woven into a beautiful underground library that makes exceptional cocktails. I hope you like it. It's my favorite
I read convenience store women and loved it too😍 you might like Factfullness by Anna Rosling Rönnlund, Hans Rosling, and Ola Rosling. Also “who moved my cheese?” by Spencer Johnson. Both of them were translated into Japanese and I read them in Japanese but it’s a good book to read during this time
I've never heard the phrase, "what doesn't kill you makes you weaker." Is that a new generation thing? I've always been told and heard, "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger."
Any book by Matt Haig, fiction or not! Reasons to Stay Alive gives you just that, and How to stop time is a masterpiece. His latest book Midnight Library I haven't read yet because of school but everyone is raving about it :) I'd actually recommend reading his non fiction first bc i think it helps understand his characters a lot more.
i recommend Love in Colour by Bolu Babalola. its an anthology of myth and folktale retellings from around the world. i follow the author on twitter and she’s just such a brilliant and hilarious woman. i think you might also enjoy DMT: The Spirit Molecule by Rick Strassman :) very fascinating stuff. i’m currently halfway through Circe and i love it so much, it’s such a page turner! bummed that i started reading it after curl up club was done with it . as always, thanks for all ur recs ❤️
I highly recommend Bad Blood by John Carreyrou through audible. The narrator has done the book justice and more engaging. Please do more videos like this :).
Reading coddling the American mind. It is helping me overcome my cognitive distortions, keep my mind off the pandemic and my depression. Thank you for the suggestion
You should read "Morning in Jenin" it's a multi-generational story that follows a family torn by the Israel and Palestine conflict and how it affects their kids and grandkids etc.
The biggest thing is LUCK. Sometimes people do so much hard work, but they don't get the results. While other people might do less work and achieve bigger than what they expected.
You can actually practice reading fast. 😉 But I believe that it’s not about how fast you read and how many you read, but on how the books you read make an impact on you. 💙
What I have been doing since the quarantine started has been pairing books with their audiobooks if available and reading along at 1.5 to 1.7 speed. It's helped train my focus, mental clarity, and comprehension tremendously. I've read 25 books in the past 5 months because of it. Now, when I read books without the audiobooks I read them in a week whereas it used to take me at least a month before. I hope that helps!
@@jessicacerullo3155 I haven’t been pairing but have been listening to lots of audio books. It is so nice while driving and doing chores around the house!
HIGHLY recommend Know My Name by Chanel Miller. It details her experience as the girl who was sexually assaulted by the Stanford swimmer, a case that has been highly publicized. She’s an incredible writer and I think the book is so important and really a must-read for everyone!
Hi, Jenn! Could you please share with us your reading techniques? How do you manage to read so many books and at the same time handle work and social balance? :) thank you ❤️
It’s always important to set a certain time of day that you’ll dedicate solely for reading. Doesn’t matter if it’s 15 minutes or an hour. Just do it daily. Also, audiobooks are life savers! You can read a book while doing chores. 💙
Ah, so many of Jenn's recommended books have been in my to-read list forever! I just don't have time for more reading, especially since I'm in a modern Japanese literature class. Maybe after the semester ends. If anyone is looking for some Japanese classics (in translation), here are the books I'm reading for my class: 1. Kokoro by Natsume Soseki (translated by Edwin McClellan) 2. Naomi by Junichiro Tanizaki (translated by Anthony H. Chambers) 3. Silence by Shusaku Endo (translated by William Johnston) 4. The Woman in the Dunes by Koko Abe (translated by E. Dale Saunders) I have read Kokoro and Naomi, and am in the middle of Silence, and I would recommend them all so far!
For anyone else wanting to watch I'm Thinking of Ending Things - I find the movie to be very strange, even after reading the book and expecting it to be strange. Would recommend the book, not sure about the movie.
Anything by Gabor Maté I recommend - e.g. " When the Body Says No: The Cost of Hidden Stress" or "In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts: Close [Clothes ;P] Encounters with Addiction".

I don't feel like many people in this comment section are too familiar with it from what it seems, but I wholeheartedly believe that psychedelic treatment will be the future for many mental diagnoses and also end of life therapy also.
