It was nice to hear The Bottom of the Night used again to reflect Frog's sorrow at losing Cyrus. And another, softer reprise of Frog's Theme to inspire him and reassure him that he can do this! And Frog singing his theme again, triumphant in his knowledge of what he will do. I love how the game has these sidequests to complete each character's arc, and this was a perfect representation of Frog's arc here.
Also I want to appreciate the progression of Frogs theme through the musical. The first time we hear it Frog sings alone, in the reprise it’s Cryrus who teaches him “the hero’s way,” and here, the final time, they sing together as true heroes.
Disappointed Magus wasn’t in he party to awkwardly watch the man he turned into a frog talk to the ghost of his best friend whom he killed. Maybe it’s for the best lol
@@shinraset Cyrus: Glenn, thank you... For, wait...why is Magus still alive, and by your side! Frog: It's a long story Magus: a very long story. Thousands of years in the making.
The first part is so sad, with cyrus grave painting him as a fool for trying to stop magus, And frogs mourning his fallen friend. Darby did such a good job with frog here, he sounded like he was actually crying while voicing frog. And the way frog reconciles his guilt over cyrus’s death is just beautiful, and cyrus joining in on the ‘that’s the hero’s way’ part was excellent. And the way you showed his grave is changed to show the hero cyrus truly was at the end is just perfect Everything about this is just beautiful, 11/10.
This was such an amazing song from frogs sadness, and regret. Eventually turning into strength and determination when realizing how proud Cyrus really was of him
Dang it, I was not prepared for this double-whammy of the feels, today. But after hearing Frog's theme in the Olympics opening ceremony, a few days ago, I wondered when we'd see this sidequest. :) I can't help but feel that one dislike is Magus, and partly why he was a no-show here. XD
This is a beautiful version of Frog's song. Listened to this song at the Tokyo Olympics during the Parade of Nations, so this theme is fresh in my mind.
Really make someone cry and brings sadness into your heart we all fell with frog felt weather is losing a friend, someone close to your family OR or even true love we all lost someone dear to us.😥😢
Chrono Trigger is full of so many moments, so many stories, each of them could be a game in themselves but they packed them all into one game. There's so many you forget some of them, but watching these musical numbers makes me remember more of them again. Such an amazing game Chrono Trigger is. Such an amazing game.
Wow, I really love this part you guys created. For all the bravado and strength Frog constantly exudes; we only see and hear him being meek and like a kid once during the reminiscent scene way back when! Otherwise, we always see his "gung-ho" persona! Now back at Cyrus' grave, he's gone back to being that young man who used to doubt his own skills and confidence. He becomes his true self, a self that he clearly only feels comfortable showcasing when beside Cyrus - or in this case, his grave. No where else in the game does he act like this. To then add in the voices to really give the characters their individual emotions, that feeling really comes out ten-fold than it did without voices. Especially since now we can hear how tender and hurt Frog is at this moment compared to his usual self. You guys never fail to amaze me with your vocal talents, both in song and in speech!
It's so nice to see this updating consistently after the long hiatus. I love this so much. It's amazing to experience a reimagining of Chrono Trigger after all this time.
@@kylestubbs8867 I guess the artist wanted to portray him as looking a bit older than in the games/anime cutscenes, since he was still not actually a knight but still a grown man when they faced Magus and got Cryus killed, then 10 years passed until the events of the game. Or, since it's the Middle Ages, the artist most likely wanted a more realistic look (for the time period) for the probably 30+ Glenn.
Thank you, I needed this. Also extra special considering you're uploading this a couple of days after the Tokyo Olympics ceremony that played Frog's theme at one point
Cyrus was more than his best friend, much more. Truly, the relationship between a man and his mentor/big brother/father figure is one of the most important relationships in his life, even today, in this era. Not even death can end it completely.
@@QueenCreeps There are others, but they don't hit quite as hard in the feels as Frog and Cyrus do. For example, we got it in the original Star Wars movie trilogy with Luke Skywalker and the deceased Obi-Wan Kenobi who later returns as ghost, at will, to continue guiding Luke. Final Fantasy 6 gave main character Terra (yes I am referencing a woman this time) a life-changing exchange with General Leo who quickly took a liking to her and promised to talk with her more before he *spoiler alert* died shortly after due to an ambush by a powerful enemy, but his advice and compassion for her need of help in finding her way (it's complicated) changed the trajectory of her life and she always mentioned him by name when thinking about that critical point in her history. Final Fantasy 7 gave us this with Cloud and his relationship with Zack Fair and all that he did for Cloud before he died with his final act being gifting him the massive Buster Sword that he uses at the beginning of the game. I can't think of a more current game or movie series at the moment, though.
This track DEFINITELY made my eyes water. Darby Cupit does a beautiful job with both the singing and the voice acting: you can really feel his regret and sadness when he's visiting Cyrus' grave and talking to his spirit. It makes the triumphant reprise of his theme at the end all the more impactful, and the duet with Cyrus was such a nice touch! Like ToxicRadiation's comment said, they're singing as true heroes now: Glenn can be/feel like an equal to Cyrus instead of his underconfident sidekick. DBGreece and Invidebit did an amazing job as well with their parts. Bravo on all fronts, and I look forward to the next piece!
Fight for what's right, the path of the knight, the Hero's grave! *Despite writing this as a joke, perhaps it's not so inane. It may not fit Cyrus or Glenn particularly well, but plenty work for the way they'll be remembered. Even Chrono says "I'll write my name in history."
@James Huddleston But he didn't die, not even in this musical, he was spared. In the end they wrote in Frog turning back into a human anyway. I only expressed dissapointment that he wasn't in this clip.
He doesn't really have anything to contribute if he's there in-game either, which makes sense since he's an optional party member and this is an optional quest, giving him dialogue would've been very low priority. All they do is have him sort of look down as if he's ashamed of killing Cyrus while the scene plays out. Magus is a very closed off character and even in the best possible ending he doesn't exactly achieve redemption, he simply continues blindly chasing the hope of bringing his sister back, so it's in-character for him to have nothing to say when faced with his past sins.
In the DS release, Cyrus goes as far as to tell Glenn to his face that if Glenn just applied himself, and believed in his own skills, he could surpass Cyrus. The man pulled a Kamina moment long before Kamina existed. Beyond that. clearing all the rooms and repairing the North Ruins converts them into The Hero's Grave.
No, you can’t do this again. I almost cried again. I love how depths of night was so negative because everyone was sad, and this reprise was happy. I love Frog’s theme reprise in this, and Cyrus singing it was so cool. DBGreece does a great Cyrus. Plus, I love how Masa and Mune appear in a funny way in such an emotional moment. Invidebit gets a 10/10 on voicing both. Also, to end this comment, Darby, how can your voice can be so beautiful! First a skeleton, now frog, and also a crazy bird (a hat in time confuctor) and Alex with the lyrics was so beautiful! This is definitely 1000000000/10. Anyways, I’ll end this comment. Bye everyone
