A view of floodwaters on the railway in July of 2024

  • Nothing exciting in the this video really, just showing the high water level that inundated the west portion of the line at the end of July. We had back to back heavy downpours on already saturated ground which led to the flooding of the nearby creek, in a previous video I showed progress on construction of a makeshift flood wall that is designed to slow the flow of the water should the creek get to this level. It appears to have helped, and was built just in time! This type of flooding is quite rare, fortunately. Apologies for the shakiness, I was walking with the camera surveying the line instead of riding the battery powered speeder. In a case like this I will not energize the catenary as any downed wire would make it very risky to be around considering the track is surrounded by water.

It always amazes me how you keep your railroad functional given that on top of the basic infrastructure you have events like this added. Thanks for video.

We operate on the lowest budget of any railway for sure! Mother nature is always trying to take away but we just keep one step ahead, well maybe only a half step ahead but we win each time lol :)

Thank you for sharing your experiences / adventures that you go through with the trains and tracks. Most of us will never get the opportunity to enjoy anything like the scale of your track and train layout ( that has to be a labor of love )

Thanks for the update and sorry about the flooding. The flooding is bad enough but thankfully you haven't had wind/tree damage at the same time. Hopefully the flowing water doesn't scour too much. Take care.

Time to break out the paddles and row!
Definitely know your pain, been getting flooding down here as well.
    Keep up the good work!

That would make a good comedy video for sure. I could get in the gondola car and paddle as a real gondola lol. No more flooding though, for the whole country please. Everyone has had enough this year!

On the part that goes inland, maybe at the same time as raising rails make a small drainage hole at the side, so the water can flow inland on one side of the rails and not cross it , so there would be less erosion on track itself (idk I don't really know how water works), and also stick several pipes between two sides so in places it could flow to the lower place.
Also I think the water hole would just become a big puddle if it was deep, so if you do it don't dig it down much. Also I don't think this would really prevent much flooding, but it would help rails stay over water

at least the flooded track is extra well grounded. though if it gets too high it would be too good at grounding and may damage undercar equipment... though I've seen videos of trams fording large pools of snowmelt water just fine in russian springtime, so I think suprisingly the motors themselves would actually hold up somewhat okay?

Habt ihr keine Furcht, dass sich der Fluss den Wagen holt der bei 0:12 schon ewig auf diesem Gleis steht? Wie hoch stand denn das Wasser?

    Just hope that you
did´nt loose too much ballast. Cost + "fun" job to replace it. Not much branches or débris. Poles look fine. But not enough water for a
    "fishing train excursion"....
I´m pretty sure you´ll be happier without that.
Thanks to share with us. It could have been worst with washout, track gone etc...
Did your new trestle was off water or did its legs bath in ?

There was water flowing under the trestle, which is always cool to see. It only happens during heavy soaking rains so its quite a rare event. I do love the "fishing excursion train" idea lol

The fishing train isn´t in the river...but on the track !
Glad you enjoy your bridge with running water. In fact, it´s the only place where water is welcome.
      Cheers😊😊😊
