I just defeated the electric lizard so probably the 6 monster or so and it felt repetitive. But now i know it's the defender armor. Can't wait to jump in and play how it's meant to be played
I want to make an important note about defender armor: Iceborne level monsters are a lot more difficult than base game monsters. The base game monsters are supposed to prepare you to face very difficult fights, but the defender armor trivializes this training. If you use defender gear you are only making the difficulty curve of late game even steeper.
@@daMillenialTruckerThis isn’t something I often say. But please try it again. I didn’t get for around the first 6 hours and then it clicked and I am 335 hours in. Hope to see you on the hunt Fiver.
Really wish the game explicity told you that defender gear was pretty much baby mode, hell the game even RECOMMENDS you play with the defender gear. Completely ruins the early game experience imo, makes it way too easy
It's genuinely insane. Great jagras do like 1/100th of your health with the defender set on. Took it off and damage dealt to me was much more reasonable, actually had to use potions.
Bless you, lol. I'm starting this game fresh, with no previous experience and I was overwhelmed with the initial hour or so of the game. Too much information, menus, training. The system itself is so complicated... I hope this helps me and more of us!
Several years back I got MHW cause my friend kept recommending it to me and I didn’t know any better so I played through the whole base game with Defender armor & weapons and he was doing co-op with me on a lot of missions. I had a fun time with it but naturally once I hit the expansion content it was a brick wall because there were so many mechanics I didn’t actually understand at all because I hadn’t needed to and ended up dropping the game. Now I’m coming back to the game years later, making a brand new save file and going through slowly and properly at my own pace to really try and learn and get good at the game to play with him.
I'm a returning player who didn't get far in the game. Honestly the Defender armor for myself sounds exactly what I want. I do like the gameplay loop but there are times where the grind was real. Having a buffer where I have armor fully capable of taking out most of the main games content quickly while still grinding materials sounds perfectly fine for me.
I am brand new to MHW and I played without defender armor for a couple of weeks. The game was very challenging but shooting in the background with my heavy bow gun made it not too hard. I started firing SOS flares on every quest I started and found the game super easy since I could just fire in the back ground while other people tanked the monster. I decided now that yes I will use defender armor and a melee weapon now just so I dont have to bother crafting or buying and using so many healing potions anymore. I will not craft defender weapon though just so there is at least some challenge.
I like how people pretend that the defender armor stops you learning the game, not learning the game makes you not learn the game, defender armor gives you more room to learn the game.
What they mean is there's less incentive to engage with the game's systems when the armour shields you from the consequences of ignoring those systems. Bosses can ragdoll you and throw you around but you'll only ever lose a tiny chunk of your health bar before your palico inevitably heals you. Sure it's great for less skilled gamers but people who don't have a need to dodge or block are rarely ever going to dodge or block.
I'm not new to MH from MH PS1 to MH PSP to Mh3rd, 4U and MHXX then stopped for 6 years. Now returning in Iceborne and Rise/Sunbreak, this is probably the best begginner guide to reorient myself again in the new world of MH world.
Great video! New to MHW and had no idea about the Defender armor thing. I’ll start a new character with out it since I’m only 6 hours into my first character.
thanks, just picked this up over the weekend (had it since 2020 after the movie came out), been using defender weapon/armor out of ignorance. But I'm going to ditch the weapon, the only boss that was hard was Diablos, died 2x on it. But I've gotten bored of bow and annoyed at only getting 50 powders or w/e per expedition so im going dual blades but not the defender ones. gonna go thru a genuine progression with weapons at least.
Man, I cannot overstate just how much defender gear trivializes everything through in Base Game World. I was a player who used defender gear on my first playthrough after Rise was my first game, and then wanting to come back and play World. You really don't need to interact with the mechanics at all. It teaches the players the wrong lessons, or even doesn't teach them any lessons that they need to know about monster hunter. Doing my first playthrough with veteran players didn't make hitting the wall in master rank any less frustrating. Instead of learning the gameplay loop in LR/HR where things are way less punishing, having to learn those things in MR in some really tough fights made me drop World until Capcom did Return to World. Rushing the main story this way is something I heavily discourage as a ton of optional quests give core gameplay items that are NECESSARY in MR, *cough* temporal mantle *cough*. I came back, played the gameplay loop using the staring armors, going through and getting a real hang of the mechanics and betting a build together before hitting MR. Also I did every main quest solo only doing coop when needing to go back and farm certain quests for materials. Night and Day difference on how much I enjoyed the experience and I now love World just as much if not more than SunRise. Defender Gear is a noob trap that should only be used by returning players who want to get a character quickly to Iceborne.
In my first 5 hours of the game I was so stressed out the game didn’t feel new player friendly at all, dodging felt iffy (still does to be fair) hunts felt too long and game felt clunky, and then something flipped everything started coming together I got much more used to the combat by the time it was hour 6-7 the game was much more enjoyable, this game definitely is an INVESTMENT to get into but it is worth it in having a blast so far
I'm having a hard time actually hitting things lol, if you're swinging in a direction and you change your directional input it seems to just keep swinging in the direction you initially pointed unless you stop attacking for a second, then change direction then attack, and by then the monster has already moved. Coming from elden ring this feels clunky but I feel like I'm doing something wrong.
Man, this game is so hard and confusing for me, I just bought it on steam because of the sale. Really want to try it but just end up running around, lost lol
I just started with the game and i am now abt to fight that "balloon bat" and i still can only use defender or standard weapons...i dont get how you unlock more/monster specific because when i look into the tree i see different weapons but i dont see any "condition" on what i need/need to do to unlock them
You need to build armor from the monsters you kill. You will have a list of items you need to "farm" in order to build the armor piece. If you have all the needed pieces you can pay the smithy to build it. Move your cursor and highlight the item and it'll show you tye list
Gave the Guardian set a try when I came back after launch. Holy shit it was fucking baby mode. Get that shit out of your inventory and fucking sell it. It’s a joke. Had a far more enjoyable time.

I used it for first few hours just to get my head around the game mechanics after taking a year break but hell no don’t use it ruins everything

My friend got me to buy this game and we played for 1 hour and quit haha it was a good time tho 🎉
You should try to hop back in!
As people have said, you will be in love with monster hunter once you spent enough time with it! So give it another chance after some time.

Yea I made the defender armor mistake. Except but learned I sucked when I met D.Joe😂
Armors are upgraded on the types of large monsters you hunted through out the story.

Nice guide!
I hope mhw never dies. Cus game is Soo FCKING cool
What element should you use or is best to use? Early and end?
Yo for early game, ma for mid and end game. Or you could just start using the latter from the beginning
Are the dual blades at 6:53 a mod ? and how to get them ? ty
So i'm now to monster hunter and planing to join MHW, should i start with the basic game or also buy bundle with the iceborne DLC???

Not enough sharpness, upgrade your weapon or get skills that can ignore that bounce like mind eye
Can i play with my friend after the totorial? Or tgere is somthing else i have to do before we play together
you need to do the first few quests I believe, maybe 1 quest
