Fastest Ever Recorded Lap at Mount Panorama, Bathurst - In Car with Allan Simonsen

- Danish sports car ace, Allan Simonsen sets the fastest ever recorded time around the most difficult Australian circuit -- Mount Panorama, Bathurst -- just two hours drive west from Sydney.
It's the latest specification Michelotto Ferrari 458 GT3, prepared by Maranello Motorsport, in Melbourne.
Simonsen is no stranger to racing a Ferrari 458 GT3, having campaigned a Le Mans Series GTE-Pro spec variant last year throughout Europe and the 24 Hours of Le Mans with podium results.
The very same car started from pole at the 2011 24 Hours of Nürburbring, with Allan onboard.
Sit back and enjoy how much quicker this Italian machine is around The Mountain, than a V8 Supercar.
And just for the record, Allan claimed third place last year in the Pepsi Max Commodore at the Bathurst 1000 V8 Supercar race, alongside Greg Murphy.
Those Danish are really quite versatile drivers!

There is no perfect lap. Just in motorsport the fastest sector times combined. But a "normal" perfect lap doesn't exist.
Perfect lap, without braking markers too, so smooth and yet on the limit constantly this is how it's done. Flat through the Kink which is always an indicator, RIP Allan.
This lap is pretty awesome, but I’ve just watched Scott McLachlin do a 2:03.8 at Bathurst in a V8 supercar, and it was very impressive, considering he placed 2 wheels in the dirt at the top of the mountain.

What a beautiful video, a classic track and a beloved driver in a nice car. RIP Allan. This Mount Panorama Track is a beauty, a true driver's track from the past eras, I'm glad it's still alive. Interestingly enough, I came here through the search for "Mount Panorama onboard". Last week, I was searching for "Le Mans onboard", and guess who was there? Yes, Allan Simonsen in a beautiful and fast lap around the full La Sarthe classic.
Stumbled across this while looking for something else. A huge wave of sadness washed over me. A beautiful fast ghost. I watched it 3 times in honor.

The ceremony at the end of the race was very moving.
Wow.. I've watched all types of machines climb the mountain, with every sort of driver for the past 31 years.... But this is homage to a true artist at work.... "Race car" and "graceful" rarely find them selves in the same sentance... but this 3:22 clip is a staple to a legacy that will echo the ages... Though we all come from different corners of the map, we will be united by our love for making things go fast.... Lest we forget.... R.I.P racing gods of the mountain....

Watching a video you can usually see a mistake or 2, but I honestly think that lap was 100% fault free. Awesome

The F1 lap was made during a promotional event for Vodafone Australia (Vodafone sponsor one of the teams in the Australian touring car championship as well as F1).
You're correct, Bathurst is not an F1 racing circuit. However it does host Australia's largest racing event, the Bathurst 1000. It's held during the first weekend in October every year, this year is the 50th anniversary of it running. (I don't know if Denmark broadcasts the Bathurst 1000 but I highly recommend that you watch it!)

Yes, in the Bathurst 12 Hour, however the Drive Bathurst 2011 event was an officially RECORDED event. Just so we're clear on that.

it was probably 160-180 mph
The V8 Supercars regularly clock 300kph (186mph) going down Conrod Straight, considering that the Ferrari 428 GT3 in this video has a faster lap time it would most probably equal or surpass the top speed of even the fastest V8 Supercar.
Ever heard of the Nürburgring 24 hour race?
Several Ferrari's have completed that race over the years. Also 458's as used in this video.
If something can survive 24 hours on the ring, it can survive anything.

i got an old book on Bathurst 1000 1984 and in that book there is a recorded lap of around 1min and 56 secs and that was way back then

i have to be honest here, i had no idea that there is a "mount panorama" truck in real life. first time i saw it was at Real Racing 3 on my smartphone and it is my favorite truck in game.
but in real life it looks awesome, kind of like a mini Nurburgring with all the rises and drops, and no escape routes...

Drove around that track in a Commodore rental and, was hard pressed to hit 60KPH through
those tight bends at the top, it was humbling to experience first hand how bloody hard it is...

1:48:88. Set by Jenson Button in the Mclaren F1 last year. To see the vids, both helicam and onboard (though thru a nose mounted camera rather than the TV pod on the air inake) type in F! bathurst, clips by vodafoneaustralia I think.
I love this track in GT Sport on PS4. It´s really similar to the original. Great track.
What a tragic loss to the motorsport world.The footage of the entire lap was fantastic but going up and then across skyline was to put it simply,beautiful high performance, extreme precision driving on what is one of the toughest tracks on the planet.

Amazing how time moves on - fastest official lap is now 1.59.29 recorded in 2018 in an Audi and fastest lap 1.48.88 by Jensen in and F1 car.

Congratulations to Allen and the Ferrari team for providing an excellent car/driver combination for this performance. The Lambo was right on the heals of the Ferrari but still the Fazza ticks the number one box. Will it be beaten next year with the newer quicker GT3's in B12hr qualy? There is a thought..
As for the V8SC loosers, V8SC is a formula for tight racing. They are not the quickest, never will be without politics managing every other car out there.A place is better than nothing at all.

For anyone who hasn’t driven this track, even at the non-race day legal 60 kph speed limit, it still feels super fast across the top!
