Me too... absolutely loved her from the first moment I heard her voice in 1982! !! Saw her once in a concert in Cremona (Italy) so humble and unassuming and beautiful ❤️
I had my first singing lesson with Emma when I was 16 … she would have been 29. This was at the start of the early music movement … at the John Loosemoore Centre in Devon. She and Tony Rooley were already Dowland experts. I still adore her.
My dad gave me a cassette tape of Academy of Ancient Music’s recording of Mozart’s Requiem when I was about 13 and I was hooked in a moment. I love this voice as much today as 30+ years ago when I first heard her. I ended up studying early music because of her. There is no other voice like hers.
Hard to comprehend how anyone could sing so beautifully, with such intensity, hitting every note dead centre, and not be carted off in a state of exhaustion at the end. Dame Emma Kirkby has been my no 1 soprano for many decades and I'm absolutely wild for this recording.
The movie "Shine" brought me here to hear this bliss. After that small taste of honey at the end of the movie, I was compelled to find and listen to the whole thing. Simply sublime
She is the queen of Sopranos when it comes to this period. Her voice is like class, her technique is just wonderful, the perfect use of vibrato coupled with wonderful sustain. She balances both so well and uses each so effectively.
@@sarahcawthra3401 Love Janet Baker....but...but, Emma (I have had the pleasure to have known her, since she came to my cafe/restaurant in Cardiff in 2005, and again two years later, i had a dish named after her) her unique pure voice, is perfect, for her repertoire of Baroque and early music, her pure voice is devoid of annoying, vibrato.
Can't explain why, but some music simply brings tears to my eyes with its beauty - particularly when it is sung by such an astonishingly beautiful voice. What a combination Vivaldi and Ms Kirkby make!
I was crying all Magic Flute, 6 years ago, it was so touching, classical music makes our hearts soften and more sensitive. And of course more loving...how pleasant
Outstanding voice ! Great orchestra and great Christopher Hogwood ! This gem composed by Vivaldi can be found on the soundtrack from the movie "Shine" (1996), starring Goeffrey Rush.
One of the most musical singers on record. I saw her live in Canada a few months ago and she was absolutely sublime, still, in her sixties. So happy I got to see her before she retires.
I have to pinch myself to realise how old she is. I still think of her as "The young soprano Emma Kirkby" which was how she used to be announced on BBC R3 in the late '70s/early '80s.
Certainement une des plus belles voix du répertoire sacré. J’ai eu la chance de la voir, il y a plusieurs années à Montréal dans le Stabat Mater de Pergolese et j’en garde le meilleur souvenir!❤❤❤
I saw her often in the '80s, when she was supposedly in her prime, and produced a few workshops at which she appeared. Then she seemed to disappear from the scene. So glad to see this, even though it's not contemporary. Her voice deepened and got richer after she had her child, and the years have been very kind to her. She reminds me of Elly Ameling now, although the latter didn't specialize in EM as Emma did/does.
I have been searching for this song since I first saw the movie "Shine". I thought this mystery, to me, singer was an angel and I had no idea this was Vivaldi, though I should have guessed as I have some of his music, as well as the DVD Shine. Thank you so much for sharing this.
We sure do need sincere peace in our world. This is beautiful. This will only happens when the Son of God, the Prince of Peace, will reign upon the Earth.

I was advised to buy Kirby's version of Mozart's "Excultate Jubilate", because it was written for a boy soprano. Sure enough, Dame Emma can sing without vibratto. In Vivaldi's "Nulla..." Her vibratto is beatifully expressed! She can sing anything, without sliding up to notes like most. Best of all, it is the purest pleasure to listen to her!
The motet that Exultate Jubilate is in was written for the Castrato Venanzio Rauzzini not a boy Soprano. But that’s a moot point not sure what either of those voice types have to do with the employment of vibrato... You have musical traditions of a certain time frame and then you have voice types they are different things. While in baroque music vibrato wasn’t used continuously it was used. Castrati and all voice types in the 18th century used vibrato in that manner and not a la opera singers of today. But castrati and boy sopranos of the 19th century certainly did as it was the era of full fledged romanticism and vibrato was the norm. Modern day Boy Sopranos also do and do not have vibrato. Again, not sure what a voice type has to do with a musical practice. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I fully agree with you about the ubiquitous "sliding up" to notes. Yuk. They give it a fancy Italian name to make it sound more legitimate - glissando. However I love it descending the notes.
To date, 52 of our co-habitants on this paltry earth have found it necessary to give this a thumbs-down. What else is it that these creatures find inadequate; the quality of their washing up liquid, or the lack of chewiness in their gum ?
"The man that hath no music in himself, Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds, Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils;" Or it could be that they simply lack an adequate number of neurons connecting the auditory cortex in the brain to the area responsible for emotional responses.
Some of the performers in this video are part of my young student day's imaginary. I owe to Mr. Manze some of the most important musical experiences of my life! Great performance!
In finnish: maailmassa ei ole todellista rauhaa. In english:there is no real peace in the world. That's the truth. But I never have heard so beautiful way to say that. Your voice is unique! Better than Kiri Kanawa. My soul is so full of enjoying Your voice. Thank You ❤️
People love to hate on Kirkby. She's charming. And she DOES have vibrato, it's just not wildly fluctuating in pitch, it stays very close to the pitch written. I'd rather have this actually than someone singing with wild vibrato because Kirkby is always in-tune, never sharp or flat. It's basic musicianship elevated.
The best version of Nulla IN Mundo is my Emma Kirkby. I have been trying so hard to find a video with her physically in it. this is the first. Thank you very much for the upload.
Emma Kirkby is my favorite soprano. I fell in love with early music because of her pure, agile, and angelic voice.

Ascolto Hogwood e l'Accademia da quando avevo 17 anni. Ne ho 61, ma è sempre un'emozione straordinaria.

Total beauty. So effortless. Such clarity. Exquisite in film SHINE. Can listen to Emma Kirkby for hours on end.
There's a Handel aria from Riccardo Primo on her CD Rival Divas that's so charming. As well as everything else she has done.
Outstanding voice ! Great orchestra and great Christopher Hogwood ! This gem composed by Vivaldi can be found on the soundtrack from the movie "Shine" (1996), starring Goeffrey Rush.
Just beautiful,magnificent,astonishing,The wonderful Emma Kirkby.
Control of vibrato is astonishing - she's marvelous.
