So here’s the “why” for the max trailering package for the 2500 trucks. 1) for commercial use, a diesel 3500 SRW GM truck forces a 12,100 GVWR. If you match that with a 14,000 GVWR utility trailer that equals 26,100 GCWR which would REQUIRE a class A CDL. For those that don’t know, a class A CDL is required for commercial use when the GCWR exceeds 26,000 pounds (so 26,001-up) AND the trailer has a GVWR of 10,000-up pounds. 2) The max tow option for the 2500 trucks (diesel only) is offered so guys needing the 12” ring gear, overload springs and 7250 axle rating can get it and still tow their 14,000 GVWR equipment trailer (14,000 is a very common size). Because 11,750+14.000= 25,750 which does not require a Class A CDL. That pretty much sums it up. It’s a work around to avoid federal cdl laws and still be able to essentially have a 3500 SRW truck. Now the $100 option is a little misleading because it will force the gooseneck prep package and spray in bedliner. And those mud tires are why that truck has the 11,350 GVWR and 6,600 rear axle rating.
I'd rather have the gas. cheaper and towing capacity is similar while payload would be a bit higher, generally speaking. Just look back at the videos JB has done in the past with a red Silverado 2500 6.6 gas payload was higher max towing for conventional and 5th wheel/gooseneck was about 16500. The new 10spd has this up to 18K range so very similar but save money and maintenance cost.
That’s exactly what I bought . Except I have the Dark Ash color . Diesel Duramax . 2500 LT . 6 seater with leather seats . 2024 ! 71 K no mark ups or add ons . Thank you George Chev of California. Ask for manny . In bell flower . Hey JB mention to everyone to replace the cable wire with a locking cable . Amazon sells it for 14.00 . It locks your spare tire from thieves . Oh I don’t have those tires my conventional tow is 18500lbs . I’m good !
When I ran a set of those Hankook MT 2’s they took around 7,000 miles to get the wiggle out of them and is probably why there is a weight difference for towing. My first two trips with the camper was a little tricky it felt as if I had a suspension issue the truck was walking all over the road and for folks that don’t tow a lot that could be a little dangerous
If you can get a diesel and take it to a tuner and get rid of some of the emissions junk, a diesel engine lasts far longer than a gasoline engine. You also will have the excess towing for future potential applications, diesels are just better in most applications for trucks
For commercial usage, it’s to avoid needing a class A cdl if you’re towing a 14,000 GVWR trailer and still have the benefit of the better rear axle and overload rear springs. Also some states require a non commercial class A license when your GVWR exceeds 26,000.
So it's a derated 3500 with a 2500 badge. Why not give it the 12,200 GVWR since it is identical to the 3500 mechanically? It's going to be a class 3 truck (10,001-14,000 pounds GVWR) no matter which GVWR its sold with. I wonder if the front suspension is the same as well? . But you're right, might as well get the max trailering just seems weird that its even an option.
Ya for 100 bucks I would just make that standard and then market its payload advantage over Ram and Ford in the 3/4-ton space. I'm guessing it's still an option, though, because of something having to do with either regulations or the commercial market. A big upgrade for so little tells me it's a legal loophole or workaround.
Cdl laws is why. 12100 GVWR with a 14000 GVWR trailer equals 26100 GCWR and that requires a class A cdl if you’re using the combination for commercial use. Some states even require a non commercial class A license for that. This truck (without those tires) would have an 11750 GVWR so even with a 14000 GVWR trailer you’re still under 26000 GCWR so no class A license and you have the better rear suspension and bigger ring gear of a 3500 SRW. The max tow package is not available on the gas engine that I can tell but there’s no real reason to get it in a gas because the GVWR is 11550 for a short bed SRW gas 3500. So it doesn’t break the 12000 GVWR even in a long bed.
My truck should be here next week, 3500 gas LT with basically every option. Unfortunately they couldn’t order me the midnight edition they are pretty rare
2500 + max trailering essentially = 3500. I think GM finally keeping from making the mistake of buying 2500. But ya those tires mess everything up for sure.
Question. For 2024 2500 Chevy duramax with max tow package equipped with 18” mud terrain is only limited to 12k conventional towing. Will changing the wheel size to 20” aftermarket - up the towing number. I found this on chevys website.
I just wish they gave us the option for the LT to get the full center console like your truck I just pick my truck up yesterday I didn't know it I might sale it for the High Country model
@Tool0GT92 oh just wait until you get the truck it's not a full console buddy it the console in the truck that he showed in the video trust me I just rechecked my order sheet it does show a full one on there but not what they putting in the trash.
My new 2024 AT4 HD came with the snow plow prep. I live in Texas so it’s a waste but I was wondering if there are other advantages. I read somewhere that the torsion bars are beefed up. Anything else?
@@SweetDaddy747 it comes with a power fade for the beacon in your roof. 220 amp alternator Heavy duty front springs Underbody skid plates to protect transfer case And I always order the 2 batteries as well so I'm not sure why that would delete when you order the max trailer package
The reason they are saying it has a 3500 frame is because it has the bump stops bolted to the rear frame section for the overload leaf springs. A 2500 does not have that.
Do you mean Big Horn or Longhorn? IMO this LT creams the Big Horn, but possibly not the Longhorn. Ram's is the only interior that has not seen in upgrade in almost 5 years now, and while it's still nice, I think the GM High Country/Denalis hold that prize right now. Ram is being put in a tough position because they've been silent since 2020 on their HDs.
How do you figure? The Lt comes with a 13.4” touchscreen and full digital gauge cluster. The Big horn does not. The LT comes with a lot more soft touch material, a much bigger cab, more options etc
I can’t believe with you owning a gasser and ordering that gasser knowing there is NO OTHER transmission for that truck your not busting GM’s balls for the price of that Diesel motor, when up to the 2024 model that engine was sold as a package that 9k was paying for two large ticket items transmission and engine. Now it just pays for the engine. You and ever other blogger says nothing about that. Am I the only one who sees it and is willing to point it out that GM is raping the Diesel truck buyers. If no one talks about it they our just going to keep on screwing the consumer and your helping them do it.

I mean on the higher end models for real towing they aren’t comparable at all the gas can’t tow what the diesel can period
RPM isn’t similar.
Diesel is expensive, as is diesel engine maintenance.
saying a 16500 goose is comparable to a 21500 rating is unbelievable. id save that for reddit.
Fine print on the gas jobs is they call for 91 or higher. Cost per mile with diesel is much lower in comparison

Love everything about it except for the $73k price.
I think the front of the LT looks better then the LTZ and High Country
Max trailer package is $995
that is to a T how i would spec a new 24 out.......minus the diesel engine and leather seats
All star is a must on an LT
is it me or has the price gone up? It was 100 bucks for Max towing trailer and package but now it appears to be close to 958.🤦♂️
This is exactly what I want!! Not sure I’ll get diesel though. I only tow a bumper pull. Not sure I have to have the diesel.

not really only "100" bucks you have to add the diesel package, 5th wheel package, spray in bed liner & winter grille cover!

I like it because it keeps the truck gvwr below 12k so when you pull a 14k trailer you don’t exceed the 26k gross where you need a cdl.

My 22 has about the same payload.
This thing is loaded for an LT. I had to go up to LTZ last year to get surround view.

well done video man keep it up!

It looks like the gvw changes have to do with wheel tire combo 17” = 11350 18” or 20” = 11550
My 2024 Sierra 3500HD SRW CC LB SLT gas payload is 4472lbs
