i love your attitude towards the farm and maybe life itself. calm, focussed and not taking it too serious.
Not only do I like watching your progress on your property but love the beautiful photography.
Thank you!
Hello from Australia. Nothing better than switching on a light when you haven’t had electricity for a while 😊😊😊
Genuine lol at 'we bought a chainsaw'. The time saved just by that alone for tidying up/cutting firewood will be immeasurable.
It was always the plan, we just had to do some research into this new-to-us topic first :-P There's also an old chainsaw (from the 70s or 80s probably) at the house that we need to get looked after before we use it. Better to make sure it's still safe to use ;-)
The stats in the night sky over your house are amazing! Spectacular!
Had a giggle at the creative lighting and disappearing man shots!
The setting is great, but the stars at night are glorious. You will be able to spend many nights sitting outside and enjoying the atmosphere. What an exciting journey!
Yes, the night sky in the mountains is something else! Looking forward to enjoying it many many nights to come!
Welcome back home. Glad that your internet is working, especially that one has to rely on having it, in this day and age. Look forward to watching you in your adventure renovating your home.
Love your story telling and cinematography. Welcome home. the blossoming trees were so pretty.
The problem with the faucet in the kitchen might just be a clogged up filter. On most faucets you can take those of to clean by turning them clockwise with pliers or something similair.
The light switching clips where hilarious 😂
I can’t wait to see more and more of that beautiful countryside and homestead you guys call home 👍🏼
We might take you all on a little sightseeing tour soon ;-)
Glad you got your electricity turned on.
So excited for you to be moved into the house and that you have electricity, gas, water, and internet! Janice from Arkansas USA
We are so happy to have all of the basics sorted! :-)
Good job guys!! Don't complain too much about Italy, we Italians already do it.
you're absolutely right! we love italy and italians and i think it's more a matter of getting used to what's different. the adventure with the delivery is also more a problem of living in the countryside and google maps not understanding rural house locations 🤣
If your address doesn’t show up in the right place on Google Maps then you can submit an edit to them.
We submitted it about three weeks ago. We're anxiously waiting for a message from google that they have fixed it. 😅
@@storiesfromthecascina For me Google Maps is the worst navigator. I always use 'Waze', it's hardly wrong.
Isis and Bertus, welcome back to your idyllic alpine farm. I just noticed I have a 3rd episode to watch, so today is a double-feature for me. The photography was spectacular: the neighboring village tower, followed by the red blossoms adorning the house. And then there was light! Or should I say a Bertus' Light Show? :o) So happy for you now that you have electricity and new heating system coming soon. Things are speeding along just fine! Oh, I also think that going with the flow IS the plan!
Bertus' Light Show 🤣🤣🤣👌
The light switch montage was hilarious! TY for the laughs.😆💕
Very interesting! I worked from home for years, so I know what good connections mean. I’m glad you found the source even though it cost you more. I’m glad you’re able to see your people commenting because most of us love following people from the beginning that’s what you do when you’re retired lol. You have a blessed day!
Nice Stijl chainsaw! I own 3 of them. Make sure you put the chain on in the right direction, avoid hitting dirt or rocks, buy spare chains, and wear chainsaw chaps and a protective helmet with face guard and ear protection. 😀 Eric.
A chainsaw! Thanks goodness! You were making me anxious with the handsaw but I understand you were limited with the room in your car. Well done! So much easier for you! ❤
It will definitely speed things up! But as total chainsaw newbies, using a handsaw on the three first did give us the confidence to step things up! It's one thing sawing something that's already down on the ground and a completely different thing to guide a tree to fall into the right direction :-)
Greetings from Ukraine. Starlink is a real salvation when there is no connection. And even electricity 😀
Careful when cutting the fig tree as the sap can burn your skin. You don’t feel anything at the time but the skin starts to blister 24hrs later.
Didn't get any blisters but will be mindful to use gloves when around fig trees in the future :-)
Yikes, good to know
Starry starry night, song by Don Mclean for you nice people✨ Many long days of hard work💪Mona from Israel🌷🌲
We always used to sing that song while my dad played on the guitar when I was little :-)
So happy for you that you are back and everything is working out well with electricity and internet. Keep going like this it is great to see and have a peak into your adventure.
I hope all went well with the finalising of your property purchase too!
@@storiesfromthecascina we have the transfer of the deed today so🤞🏼But we are confident that everything will be fine. How good of you to remember!
@@ericasteenvoorden6374 Enjoy today! We hope it will be a beautiful start to a wonderful adventure!
excited for this!
Lights, water and a chainsaw!! Moving forward , much luck!
I hope you get settled into your new home a lot sooner than you expected to . It looks like you're going to have a wonderful adventure ahead.
It's all going rather swiftly so far :-)
Nice to see you back! Good luck and stay by "go with the flow" and enjoy!
I am excited for you!
🤣🤣the lights on and off, love it !
Best video yet. Nicely done. Less like an art film , more like your story. BTW you can buy a chimney brush cleaning kit , measure the inside diameter of your chimney pipe to get the correct kit. The aerator screen in your sink faucet is probably clogged. 😊 Eric.
We'll look into chimney cleaning kits! We cleaned the faucet screen (going up in the next video) and it definitely helped with the water pressure in the kitchen, but it's only part of the solution to a bigger problem it turns out :-P
@@storiesfromthecascina we have an old house up in the woods of Connecticut and have gone through a process similar to yours. Now I want to visit your area 😀
@@gardenfork We can definitely recommend the Langhe / Piemonte for a holiday! It's also known as "Tuscany without the mass tourism" ;-)
🎼Chim chimney 🤣😄 love your vlogs
How exciting! Lots happening! It must feel good to have electricity and water - even if the kitchen supply looks a bit sad 😂
How fortunate to have someone to show you how to use a chainsaw safely, that’s very sensible.
Looking forward to what is next :)
We are very fortunate with our many skilled friends :-)
You are living in the most beautiful place!
I could stare at those bright stars for hours, they seem so close and reaching, Italy is also known for falling stars, and I wish to experience it on a fresh smelling grass natural carpet. San Lorenzo, as they call it or the spectacular feast of the falling stars, took place before the summer ended. Thank you for taking the time to share your fantastic journey in your new found lovely home.
You have made me fall madly in love with rural Italy
You can tell how excited you were to get electricity. 🎉🎉 too funny😅😅
We had fun there :-P
Those stunning views make all the hard work worth it!! Wow!
Yes, we hope we never get used to the amazing views!
So very pleased to see that you are back to your new home. The scenery from your drive to Italy was beautiful as was the star scene at the end of this video. I just love everything about your vlogs. Hope we don't have to wait too long until the next one. 🌷
Our next vlog will be online in two weeks time :-) Happy to hear you're enjoying them!
Hello there again I`m pleased to be seeing you guys back again on the Italian farm👍🏻, Congratulations It`s sensible to buy the Chainsaw👍🏻 safe for a lot of hard work with the bowsaw. Congratulations on the Installment of functional electricity it is nice to have e light in the House, also with the installation of the gas tank and the Starlink👍🏻very nice I hope be seeing more of the furniture and the step-by-step progress of the renovation of the farmhouse and the property🇮🇹🙏🏻☮👏🏻, keep up the good work🍀👍🏻. 🇳🇱🇳🇴Greetings Hubertus
That beautiful quince shrub and that starlit sky!! Wow!!
Thinking of propagating the quince and having a few more of them around the property in the future. It adds so much colour early in the spring and the bees certainly loved it too!
So glad to see you are making progress! Keep up the good work!!!
Thank you Yannis!
Cool update! Can't wait to see more
Great to see you back!! Spring is in the air!! You will use that chainsaw often...it is a valuable tool. It would make short work of the fig tree. We use ours often on our woodlot for dead fell, taking down lower branches etc.
You have water! You have electricity!! (Stop playing with the lights Bertus...Lol ) You have warmth from the fire and Internet on the way! Things are really coming together!
Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
We definitely had fun playing with the lights there for a bit ;-) And yes, once you get used to having a chainsaw it's hard to imagine life without one!
@@storiesfromthecascina lol...step away from the light switches!!
We are deep in the Southern Hemisphere and your night sky looks so different, your property is very beautiful and I look forward to this journey with you.
How exciting that you are really getting started on your new adventure! Looking forward to seeing your progress.
How exciting for you both !! Power and Internet !
Fantastic to have electricity and some water :)
11:16 > 11:42 lol, this whole sequence was very funny! It reminded me of Magritte!
We certainly had fun there :-P
Stunning!.....so beautiful❤
So glad things are moving ahead for you now.
I see a lot of corrosion around your tap. At the end of the spout, it screws off usually & this contains a small filter. This could be blocked causing low or no pressure. Just a suggestion. Enjoying the show. Keep up the good work.
you're one step ahead 👌 we did this a few days later. it helped but didn't solve the whole issue. to be continued! 😉 glad you're enjoying the show!
As well as the main shut off valve (tap) there may also be other valves which isolate eg the kitchen or bathroom. If you do have these and they appear to be fully open then there could be a problem inside the valve. Some here in Italy have a plunger/piston that doesn’t always open fully when the valves are old. It is possible to take them apart and clean them to fix the problem.
@@robertearp7797 Thanks for mentioning this! Definitely something to look into! there's one extra valve besides the main valve that separates the water circuit in the "new" house from that in the "old" house.
Bravo on your awesome home & here's to success with your restoration projects & a great future in Italy.
Thank you!
With all of the creature comforts or at least most of them you both are off to a Great start. Looking forward to watching your adventure. Just be positive and in time you both will get there. peace to you both!
Such little things can make all the difference! Excited to see the progress! That night sky was amazing!!🤗🇨🇦
Chimney soot is very valuable. Use it in the garden as a soil improver.
Thanks for pointing that out! We don't have a garden yet (I mean, the land is there but we haven't started cultivating it in any way) so I hope that for now the plants that are growing in the spot where we tossed it got something out of it :-) We'll be starting a compost heap soon, so I know where to put it from now on :-)
I am so happy I found Your channel and at the beginning of the Journey so so exciting
Thanks for following our big adventure and sharing your excitement with us
Nice video thanks - but those 17 minutes flew bye :-( So lucky you tracked the Skylink package down...
What a beautiful journey you both are on. I am really enjoying your videos. Thank you for sharing and keep up the hard work! ❤
Thanks for following our journey and cheering us on from a distance
What a nice Surprise to see you both back in Italy at the Homestead wishing You Spring Blessings
Progress! 😄
Love that you sang Chim-chiminey - music is a global uniter; and who doesn't love Julie Andrews! I wish you all the best in this move and getting the farm house just the way you want it.
Thank you!
Zo mooi die sterren. Leuk om de voortgang zo te kunnen volgen!
De sterrenhemel daar is echt mamma mia!
So glad to see you back at the cascina! I love your videos. Bev in Colorado USA
Simply wonderful. Just discovered your channel. Now I am trying to “catch-up”. Congratulations on your new home. Really looking forward to seeing how your plans evolve. Best regards!!!
А какое небо над вами, ребята! Красотища!
#chainsaw #ppe #personalprotectiveequipment #safetyfirst. Can’t wait to see how this project moves along!
we have a house in Piemonte and there is one advice I wld like to give, try and find a gas provider where you can communicate with the driver for filling the tank, also you should keep the option to buy the tank if you are away from the nearest village and you are not connected to the metano gas. Calling the company when you need filling up is a total hassle, do not use liquigas, we made bad experiences with them, use butangas if you can, good luck with everything, it's going to be superb ... I forgot to say, if you buy the tank you are free to choose a gas provider, if the one that you have does not deliver according to your needs you may change, if you do not buy it you don't have this option, liquigas used to tell me when it is time to fill the tank, we also live abroad and are totalyl rely on somebody that delivers the gas when we say, they made me so mad that one day after many, many years being their customers I had everything ripped out and made them come collect it ...
We did not use Liquigas (our geometra advised against them too). We chose Bragas - it's a local Piemontese supplier with better customer service. So far we've had a really positive experience with them.
Amazing and beautiful property you have. I would recommend a Fiskars pruning saw with a D handle (or something similar). Much more stable than a bow saw and you will be amazed at how fast you can cut down small trees and limbs.
Love it!!!
My favorite brand of chainsaw. Great purchase!!!
very happy with it so far!
Ребята, я думала, что вы сюда на постоянное место жительство переехали уже в прошлом году и здесь живете, постепенно обживая и благоустраивая жилище и постройки.
Hi again, this is now my second video, I am going to go back to the beginning and catch up, I am very happy, you have heat and electricity, and now your internet. The starlite sky looked beautiful. Congratulations, on everything so far.
Thank you Joni!
There is screen filter on the end of the faucet take a little brush and clean it. If you have an in line home water filter on the pipe to the sink. It's filter may need to be replaced.
Love seeing this. My family is from Italy. Last time anyone was there was 1971. See your a spinner. So am I. OH and check you head on your kitchen sink. Sometimes it clogs with sentiment and the water just trickles out. Hope to see more.
Hi Elena! I've had a break from spinning but I'm looking forward to take it up again :-)
Happy to know you don’t always plan and go with the flow. It’s much less stressful and healthier. Congratulations from a 3rd generation Italian Canadian born.
I couldn't do it if I tried. Going with the flow is how we work best. :-)
I enjoy watching your channel.
So happy you are back! Good days ahead for you in your renovation. You are excellent vlog makers🤩🤩💐
I am really enjoying watching your progress. I moved to the valleys of SW France 17 years ago, and it feels very similar. I wish you every success, and am looking forward to watching your next episode. Gorgeous house, and beautiful countryside.
We are probably not too far away, just on the other side of the Alps. We've been in the south of France a few times and there's definitely similarities in the landscape, but also the style of farmhouses and the colour of the stones used for building.
Looking forward to seeing your progress. 🤗
The turning on and off of the lights gave me creepy movie vibes. Lol…love it.♥️♥️♥️
haha yes, abandoned spooky house vibes 😂
Bravi.....ben venuto al' Italia
Making great progress! So exciting to get electricity, water, and internet. You are almost there!
So far it's all going very smooth! The next big thing to sort is hot water :-)
Good to be home isn’t it? Getting everything set up and starting to put down your family roots is a good feeling…Welcome home!
This is so exciting!
Yay for all the excitement!! We certainly are :-)
I have heard if you burn dried potato peel in your stove it will clean the chimney for you, haven’t tried it but the chimney sweep on The chateau diaries told them to do it. So glad you bought the right protective gear for the chainsaw and had instruction before you used it hope the gas is now on .the sky and blossom was beautiful.
ooooh yes now that you mention it, I remember their chimney cleaning episode. will have to re-watch :-)
Ahh..the luxury of hydro😁
Hello from New Zealand. I am so looking forward to your exciting journey. What a charming place and beautiful location. Autumn here so it is very nice to be watching your spring arrive.
Glad to be able to send some spring your way :-)
Great to see you back at 'it'.
Was a bit curious about why you cooked dinner on a camp stove when you have a (now)functioning wood stove in the kitchen?
we have definitely cooked on the wood burner too but that first night before there was electricity it felt just more convenient to have a workspace for cutting veg and cooking space next to each other because of the absence of light. it might not make a lot of sense watching it i can imagine 🤣 but if felt like the easiest option at the time 🤪
So enjoying your journey!
Great, I have 6 acres in TN (USA) and enjoying it.
Immigrated to the US with my family in 1962, became a citizen in 1981 so I do have a very good idea where you came from and what you're up against / feeling.
Yes, I'd do it again proudly in a heartbeat. Good on you!
Wonderful! You must be so happy to have some amenities at last! Look forward to following your journey..
They do make life easier :-)
Your time is your own. No rat race anymore.
yes! cheers to that!
Bravi, I see in this video that you bought machine to cut the tree! ❤
yes, that was always the plan! when we invest in tools we want to make sure it's good quality that we'll enjoy using for many years. that takes a bit more time up front but it pays off in the end :)
Good to see you are settling in to your new home 👍
progress
Lets just hope the lights don't start flickering like that on their own.
Good luck with the farm, I will be watching from my chair😊
Enjoy ;-) (We certainly enjoy watching others doing similar projects from our chairs from time to time too)
All the way from South Australia, I like that brand milk for my coffee, but only when it's on special. Very expensive here. Take care, I have just started watching
