My son made one of these recently and within3 or 4 days seven holes were occupied. We placed it on a slight angle so rain would not flood the holes and faced it south in a peaceful section of his yard. Very satisfying project❤.
Hey you can never have too many bee hotels right 👍 I don’t think it’s ugly...somehow it reminds me of a bell alarm clock ⏰ another happy home, marvellous stuff.
Indeed a very nice piece of wood and i like the result! I can confirm your theory about the overhang. I see exactly the same thing happening over here, the bees always seem to occupy the holes directly beneath the overhang first. So as the Mythbusters say, confirmed :-) Funny story today, the past days quit a few male Red Mason Bees were hovering around the Hapitats. This morning when the sun was out, i noticed a female Red Mason Bee emerging and she was immediately "bushwacked" by one of the waiting guys and they both fell to the ground. I gently put them back on the Hapitats roof in the sun and all the other guys were very interested in what was happening and they were trying to climb on as well. All in all a rough start for the lady :-) Thanks a lot for sharing, M.
Thanks M :) I’ve seen 3 males on one female ‘claiming’ her as it were. Glad you can corroborate the overhang thing too, it sure makes a difference to certain types of bees 😁🐝🐝🐝🐝😁
Thank you for the inspiration, tips and hints on your videos. I have just uploaded my first video. Only a quick one to get my channel up and running. Hopefully a lot more to come in the near future. Thanks again. Love the videos
sorry for the late response that’s lovely I think you’ll love it. I’m doing a series now on making a relatively simple one if you want to watch, it you might get some ideas. x
Hi, im new to all of this and i am considering getting a solitary bee house. I have been told that permanent holes in wood are deadly for beea because they cannot be cleaned. Is this true?

Can the log be stood up, like a stump and the holes be drill into the bark?
Yes , that would be fine, just make sure they are tilting slightly downwards so they don’t get waterlogged :)
@@Calastein Thank you!

Hiya, What happens in nature, does anyone clean them out? 😜
The nesting holes in nature are more spread apart and new ones constantly emerge.
Very nice. I know you said this before but what size drill bits did you use? Thank you for sharing
Janiece Simpson oooh erm.....let’s see 10mm, 8mm, 6mm, 5mm, 4.5mm and 3mm I think :)xxx
