I love how it's extremely stressful when you get caught because they pick you up with one hand and I specifically remember thinking "oh god he's gonna bite my head off" when he reels his head back in preparation, only for them to just blow out your candle.
@@CatsNChickens yeah that was also pretty funny. I was like "Haha I haven't got a lantern to blow out, you can't do anything to me, AHAHAHAHA" and then he just snapped my neck and I was like "oh."
I think the ones in the hall are scripted to not react immediately after turning to look at you, to give you a chance to take in the inside of the hall and realise how many of them are there, and that you shouldn't be
@@MidgarMerc no that's not it. I tested it a few times and they don't immediately see you when you enter. Once they do see you, the one to the left of the stairs will eventually slowly move towards you and catch you. The one near the fire doesn't move, but all owelks will automatically catch you if you get close enough to them so you can't go through the fire or upstairs.
My favorite part about this room is how the music stops as soon as you enter. Almost like they know you're there, but are like "wait... did you hear that?"
I love that your surprise is visible in your crosshair movement. I followed the last Stranger into this building and the door closed behind me, so I feel your pain 😂
I actually felt relieved when those doors shut. I was so glad to be safe inside, out of the creepy dark woods, not having to look over my shoulder every two seconds. How foolish of me.
During launch, the stranger in front of the fireplace actually has their back turned to you. I think in a later update they changed them to be facing you, perhaps as a stronger hint that you can't rush past them? Either way, I was replaying sections in VR after the mod was finished, and I went inside the house, expecting it to be like at launch, and instead I see these hellish eyes staring into my soul as I peek above the stairs. I got a jolly old scare just from that.
I was questioning that myself. I went in there about two days after the DLC came out and didn't see any eyes, only to come back later to see him staring me down. I'm glad they did that though, let's you know who's in charge.

Anglerfish have got NOTHING on these guys
I think all of the "hacks" can have players stumble onto them early or accidently. We play enough with fire in the DLC a couple times. So it stands to curiosity that some players may turn off their ships candles for fun. And if it happens to be in a "loading screen" then you end up figuring early how to break the game. Its fairly reasonable to have you put down a lantern. But the game makes it a bit less obvious since the simulated world has no objects for you to pick up so you are far less likely to organically stumble across it. You'd have to put down your lantern for simple curiosity then move quite a ways away from it. I had only come across the dying on the fire one because I thought that was the solution to the Starlit Cove Vault since I didn't really properly pay attention to the reel that explain you could turn off the lights. So I had no clue that was there or that there would be pursuers if I did it the actual correct way. I figured...Hey these guys cant wake up cause theyre dead. I wonder if I can do that. Was surprised it worked.
My first few times in the simulation I got there by dying instead of sleeping (I didn’t even realize you COULD get there through sleeping) so after wandering around the different areas and coming to the conclusion that there were no people around, I walked straight down into the well (not even realizing the alarms were supposed to stop me). As I was looking through the space down there I came face to face with my first ever stranger, glowing eyes looking straight at me in the dark. That was already basically a jump scare for me. And then just as my brain put together “huh, I guess there are people here” he fucking rushed me and blew out my candle. Worst fright I’ve ever had in this game.
