There's a bittersweetness in the tale of Tadasue and Katsunaga. In the face of overwhelming odds, they fought until their last breaths and died with honor.
The shogun (Yorichika) has a couple of stellar moments, but I think this is the best: (18:55) A group of green elite assassins (two Lv 4s and a Lv 1 general) want to assassinate Yorichika-sama (Lv 3), taking advantage of the fact that his elite guards were killed or went on missions abroad. The future shogun launches a frontal attack, killing one of the Lv4 and the general.
I feel bad for Tadasue and Katsunaga. They ended up splitting, and with them split they fell apart. The two no longer had their weapons with them, and I'm sure Katsunaga hadn't even realized Tadasue died when they died too.
This is so cool! This variant deserves some unique mechanics like having the central castle host the emperror who does something like give random bonuses, alike those in classic MK. Ninja units needed! Maybe they can phase in and out as transparent "ghosts" every couple of seconds in combat? Edit: if there was a wheel bonus, one negative (or forcing all other factions to do it) could be sepuku for a random marble (or multiple marbles) that have fled from a battle at least once, they just die.
I don't want this to be just another Marble Kingdoms. The way this is right now, it has this kind of feel of intentionality that modern MK sorely lacks. I don't know how to explain it, it might be the feel of the combat or just the unit replenishment rate being just right, but I don't think the MK castle upgrades system, for example, is even close to appropriate for a drop-in fit here. The asymmetry between ashigaru and samurai hit just right here. If LM is listening. Here's my proposal for ninjas: -Operates independently of armies (Is not sent out during a normal attack order) -Small chance of being sent out whenever a non-attack order is sent -Will automatically enter a fleeing state after killing a few enemies if no normal friendly units are engaged Other thematic ideas: Giving ninjas the ability to isolate high-level enemies in individual battles Bonus damage against high-level characters?? Units wounded by a ninja regenerate slower until they regain their full HP Mechanics: -cloaks when an enemy is not near (immune to projectiles except from other ninjas, or archers that are substantially higher level than it) -One spawns every 5 reinforcement cycles at a castle (could be an upgrade) -Throws kunai (low damage, but can maybe debuff enemies by slowing them down) I just don't want ninjas to be treated as another normal unit I guess.
Marble Kingdoms in a Medieval Japanese setting? Sign me up for that! Instead of kings, knights, and castles, we've got shoguns, samurai, and temples! The classes in this version of the Marble Kingdoms engine are the Emperor (leader of the Grey faction, was unfortunately killed right at the start of this episode), the Daimyo (leaders of the colored factions, with golden swords and armor), the Captains (army commanders, distinguished by a red band on their armor), the Samurai (self-explanatory), the Archers (basically the same as the MK archers), and the Spearmen (basically the same as the MK spearmen). So, who amongst these honorable and noble warriors would make their mark and become Shogun? It's the Marble Shogun addendum to the MK/MS Hall of Fame: - Yellow Daimyo Yorichika, Level 7 (If you thought that the Daimyo were just going to stay nice and snuggled in their temples, think again. Yorichika was no idle leader, for they were more than willing to get blood on their hands to accomplish their goals, and it shows in the path of destruction left in the warrior Daimyo's wake. Campaign after campaign, Yorichika would dominate opposing forces, whittling them down until only a couple of seasoned Red warriors remained, leading to the climactic final showdowns where they were stamped out for good.) - Red Archer Katsunaga and Samurai Tadasue, Level 7 and 5 respectively (They were the last resistance against the mighty Yellow Daimyo, and they kept at it for quite a while. With Katsunaga's precise sniping and Tadasue's fearsome swordsmanship, the Red faction held out hope that the tide would turn in their favor, even as the Yellow faction kept hounding them towards the end. Alas, the two warriors got separated, and both met their untimely ends in the face of overwhelming force.)
Yorichika became known as the Bloody Whirlwind who when he tasted blood he sought out to join the battlefield and they knew his bloodlust would not be sated. Tamekisa was a symbol and goal of all peasants for his valiant stand against the enemy. All in all, its a decent spin-off. My gripes is that while spears work in the setting, it kinda struggles and seems frustrating when on battlefields with obstacles. When a leader is leveled up they become literally unstoppable beyblades and the potential of other units seem lacking. Even with Tamekisa's 40 kills he didn't seem all that impressive as he should be.
Predstava all over again I don't think weapons should eventually break, what is this Minecraft? If was probably a glitch, it happened a few other times to other marbles but usually it fixed itself the same battle (33:46)

1:52 Our men are running from the battlefield! Shamefur display! Sukehisa-dono's duel with a nameless archer was epic, then Yasukiko came and killed both of them with his superior numbers XD
While everyone else were duking it out over worthless territories, the winner was just sitting back, building up troops. They then did a FULL SEND and crippled every palace and killing an enemy daimyo. They then sat back again and built up their troops. In short, they got unit superiority very early on and held onto it. It also helped that they did several full sends, letting their daimyo into the fray. This means that instead of the daimyo exclusively being in a defensive position, they're in the more advantageous offensive positions, allowing them to rack up plentiful kills and level up, becoming a nigh-unstoppable force of destruction. If this wasn't all entire random, I'd say they just entirely outplayed everyone. Nobody else even stood a chance.
I love that in contrast to the marble kingdom. Marble shogun has a lot of spinning and smaller army like how Japan focus on martial prowess rather than number, and how samurai are basically mini captain and any of them can achieve the “lord/-dono” rank if they are skilled enough
Both red and green had sad endings, if this was a massive film series I think we would weep when we see these amazing warriors being cut down despite reaching the peak of their class.
Yorichika is an example of a great leader. First defeated multiple enemies while defending his castle, then personally lead his own troops to victory o7
Yellows shogun is an absolute chad. He legit just chilled in his palace until he was ambushed and had to take on the two strongest warrior at the time, Hikokazu and Hizamoro by himself, and won. Then he just said "fine, then ill do it myself" left his palace became the first marble to reach level five AND SIX. Saw potential in another marble, Norisane. Made him his diciple and trained him to level 4. Norisane became a general and went to face Tadasue, lost and then went back to Yorickika for help. Yorickika then proceeded to hunt both Tadasue and Katsunaga down. The only reason this guy didnt reach lvl 10 was because there was noone for him to fight. He is truly a man worthy the title of shogun.

Hikokazu and Hizamoros deaths were truly tragic. Let down by their commander Hizamori died cornered by the enemy genereal and since he had a spear stood no chance. Hikokazu died holding off an entire army after his brother died, knowing he was going to die but never giving up. Not to mention the fact they saw what was basically a father figure die right in front of them only for the killer to charge at them.

You and MIKAN shared the same playlist for this round. This seems to be using some of the older gen mechanics with the more recent graphical enhancements. As for the playout, Yellow's Daimyo basically BTFOed everything.
Personally I feel like the palace in the middle is a bit too attacker-favored in scenarios where both sides are roughly equal in numbers and levels. The gatehouse in the middle takes up enough space that it leaves fights on all parts of the map feel a bit cramped. The gatehouse’s location on the defender’s side forces most of the defenders to the sides and back of the gatehouse, making it harder for defenders to take advantage of the chokehold created by the gatehouse and making most fights on either side of the gatehouse decided by who can get their weapon facing the right direction first. The attackers, on the other hand, don’t have any dead ends that come after a turn to get stuck at due to their side only having a bridge to cross before getting to the gatehouse, letting the attackers get more marbles into the gatehouse than the defenders can, causing the rest of the battle to snowball into a victory for the attackers as they clean up the separated defenders one by one.
Katsunaga, red's hero and final hope after the death of Tadasue, defeated by Yorichika. Final kill count 65. The only two level 7 marbles, however their story is different. Yorichika was a daimyo from the start, while Katsunaga started as a nobody. Just an unnamed archer marble. Who would have known that they would end up becoming red's last survivor? Also I say defeated by Yorichika because Katsunaga had a decent chance against the rest of the army. at 51:48 in the video Yorichika mercilessly hits Katsunaga several times, sealing his fate. Even Katsunaga + Tadasue together might have been able to defeat Yorichika, although it's unlikely but with Katsunaga dealing 449 damage with each arrow there's a chance.
There's a bittersweetness in the tale of Tadasue and Katsunaga. In the face of overwhelming odds, they fought until their last breaths and died with honor.
