Defensive tera ice is super interesting on hydrapple, because despite being a stallmon, it also does tera ice to KO gliscor. Also what not ever taking damage from hazards does to a mon
my theory is that muk was actually a good pokemon with good stats and good movepool (for the time), and its poison typing and lack of good recovery completely destroyed it.
@@blip_existspoison’s definitely a negative but it’s not as bad as it could be. While a psychic weakness is very bad it isn’t the worst weakness you can possibly have. Ice coverage is used on all of the big 3 in gen 1 in particular tauros uses blizzard on basically every set Snorlax uses both ice beam or blizzard sometimes and chansey likes ice beam a lot for fishing for freezes and it’s commonly used on number 4 best mon starmie and many other common offensively inclined threats like jynx which is a solid lead. Folks, I do believe the saying goes: "Every Muk has its Monday", and it indeed looks like today is a Monday, regardless of what my Google-based calendar is telling me.
I just realized that because muk and alolan muk’s hands are up in a reverse order in relation to eachother when you put them side by side it looks like they are rapping against eachother.
I almost never play OU so it is always fun to take a look into the tier with videos like these. Also I love how creative you get with the backgrounds for the more heavily edited segments, considering that's something most would overlook (its me I'm most)
This video was very well done. I thought I was coming into a troll post but it was presented well and you have a good speaking voice! Learned something new Keep it up! Might sub
Never thought I'd see Kantonian Muk of all things getting any play, especially when Alolan Muk has such a good typing. Edit: Turns out instead of Sticky Hold, Alolan Muk gets Gluttony, so I guess that's why. I wonder if Alolan Muk would have been used instead of Kantonian Muk if it had Sticky Hold.
@@blip_exists yeah, like everything plays Dozo Bliss clod bla bla, the usual but i think all of this gets incredibly destroyed by a lot of things besides maybe non-gimmick-non-meta teams
A tangent away from OU and posting this remarkably late, but I remember early in Gen 9 ZU when Swalot was the king of the tier…before power creep dropped Muk down there to completely outclass it as a defensive, Poison, Sticky Hold user lmfao
They'd probably both have some niche, but at least Knex thinks regular Muk would've been better. Dark Posion has less weaknesses, yes, but Muk's weaknesses aren't its main issue. Loosing its restiances to fairy and fighting however, are both huge, so its very 50/50 on which would be better
"if you didn't, consider disliking and telling me what i could improve in the next video" what an absolute chad end card. Obviously i liked the video tho, all your videos are great!
Some people actually are, mainly due to slighly higher physichal defense. However, it has much lower special bulk, which is important for Hex Darts dragapult, and has lower attack, meaning its worse against Ogerpon and Iron Valiant. So you trade a slightly better matchup against Meowscarada and Weavile for a worse matchup against most everything else.
Some people do that too, as well as tera fire. Tera ice was used in part because of tera blast, letting Hydrapple KO Gliscor. And ice isn't as bad as you would think for Hydrapple. Meowscarada doesn't carry any moves that are super effective to ice, and Hydrapple easily beats low kick weavile. It really just ends up that the defensive disadvantages of ice don't matter to hydrapple, and the offensive advantages are quite good.
I like how the only reason Ice is good is because Ice is ignored, and because there is a trend to make the route types weak to Ice particularly good sweepers. That is it. That is the only reason Ice justifies its existence.
Muk went from ZU to OU viable because of its ability to allow stall teams to completely ignore hazards! OU council: *Writing Gholdengo isn't a problem, Gholdengo isn't a problem, Gholdengo isn't a problem on the wall repeatedly.*

I Love how a Gen 1 Pokemon that's barley gotten any help throughout the years still can be good in OU.
Its always cool when a meta shifts to make older, niche, pokemon more viable
Still wish they'd give him, and other older Mons, some buffs.
That is the great part of comp. pokemon
Yeah, Maractus is a niche check to kyogre so in formats where they're both viable it's something that really throws off people

Its a maybe, as Muk enjoys resisting Fairy for Clefable and Valiant, but dark is nice for future sight, so 50/50.
never would i have though stall could be cool BECAUSE OF MUK
Stall right now is cool because of how it struggles in the meta, and thus needs to use weird mons to adapt, its pretty neat!
@@blip_exists yeah, like everything plays Dozo Bliss clod bla bla, the usual but i think all of this gets incredibly destroyed by a lot of things besides maybe non-gimmick-non-meta teams
Stall is unironically an underdog playstyle right now, you need to meet like 10 different conditions to have a viable Stall team
