I have a special love for Blissey. Something about a super bulky Egg just feels morally correct. She looks like a fairy type and let’s be real she basically is, but game freak has to put shackles on Blissey so she doesn’t completely destroy the world. Also don’t you love how she has low defence because she’s an egg? Eggs tend to crack if you hit it against something, yet it can withstand a lot of “special” force if it’s applied evenly. Truly evocative stats.

The short answer is that when investing in bulk EVs you shouldn't be investing in your highest stat unless it's for a specific important calc or if investing in your lowest stat has absolutely no positive effect. Investing in your two lower stats will on average be better mathematically due to how damage is calculated. This concept exists for other games too! In Terraria, for example, it's almost always better to run a mix of crit boosting and damage boosting accessories instead of sticking to one. Of course, there are some exceptions, and generally damaging boosting is better than crit chance, but this mathematic principle isn't exclusive to Pokemon

Blissey is my moms fav pokemon. I even bought a plush of it for her birthday and she loves and treasures it. Not long ago I even caught a shiny in violet and this video helps a lot with sorting my thoughts about different builds. I've been thinking of going the "full defense investment" on other pokemon as well such as eviolite dusklops (i know it has low hp, I just tried it but turned out really helpful) I love your video!

I tried running a +spdef nature and both defenses maxxed back in gen 4 but it just wasn't really worth it back then. Too many stray physical attacks and the special attackers didn't hit hard enough.

Took a Blissey all the way to Masterball tier by baiting Miraidon sets last season. Lots and lots of that special attacker everywhere... And its damage was RIDICULOUS So I used a Blissey with max HP and max Sp. Def soley for moments like that. Gave it Light Screen and Healing Wish as well for support purposes. Felt strange having to run that set but it worked.

i love alomomola, its just a funny fish. never really heard about it being used in competitive until recently, so it was a pleasant surprise (ive really only gotten into pvp within the past couple months)

The fact that Blissey treats OU like it's a past gens Ubers tier is very telling about the state of OU.

I hate how everyone does the same thing. Wish we had some creativity and some people ran HP investment for the better physical bulk.

It speaks to power creep that Blissey needs to run Special Defense investment because there are Special Attackers that can threaten 2HKOs on it. Also, doesn't Toxapex also want HP Investment because of Regenerator?

Even without taking out the calculator, it shouldn't be difficult to understand. Blissey's HP are such BIG NUMBERS that it doesn't really need investment in it. Better to focus on the second best stat. Also, I bet someone is gonna try this out in older gens metagames. Let's pray for this brave pioneers. 🙏🏻😂

I'll quibble a bit with the statement that natures give the most benefit to boosting their highest stat. The fact that Blissey gets +11 Def vs. +36 SpD is misleading. The reason most Pokemon take a +Nature in their highest stat isn't because it maximizes their stat point increase. It's because it tends to be the stat they rely on most, especially for attackers. Pokemon's damage calculations are *mostly multiplication based. So the a + nature gives about a 10% boost to either physical or special bulk. The raw number of stat points increased doesn't significantly change that. But it's the attacker that chooses whether damage calculations will be physical or special. So defenders are more often forced to patch up their weak point than attackers. Whether to invest in a +Def or +SpD nature isn't a question of which gives you a larger stat point boost. It's a question of how much damage you expect to take on each end of the spectrum. If you anticipate taking more physical damage, go Def. More Special damage, go SpD.
