I've tested out a lot of ballpoints for drawing. In my opinion, the best one is a brand called Cambond that I got on Amazon. It's super cheap and nothing fancy, but it's got a metal barrel so I liked that. Zebra's are also good for drawing, as is the Paper-Mate Profile. All of those are pretty good at doing softer, pencil-like shading.
Regular gel ink (Uniball, Zebra Sarasa) is essentially pigmented and almost impossible to get off the paper, even with solvents such as alcohol or acetone. Super Ink DOES have pigment. That's what gives it staying power. You can also test Noodler's Bulletproof Black that uses cellulose reactive inks that are impossible to get off the paper without destroying it and won't run under water (so suitable for ink washes or watercolor).
I put an acrylic wash over Noodler's bulletproof black and it did run very slightly. (And slightly annoyingly.) You have to let it dry for a few hours. I've got a brush pen that uses Indian ink and that's extremely waterproof, you can scribble something out, plunge the whole thing underwater and it doesn't run at all.
I have spoken to Steadtler and they say their pens are not lightfast except Black so it would make sense to believe they are all Lightfast if Black as a standard? Have you ever thought of spraying an UV protection on them and if so how did that work out?
Really good review, thank you for sharing it!

Hi can you please help me with the link in Amazon of Cambond that you metioned
Very cool test. Thanks!
For shading, my 1 mm Azor is the best and the ink flows more freely than mainstream ballpoint pens.
You are a very entertaining guy!

It seems like the Staedtler was clearly the worst, not the Bics.
Turns out I'm not without bias.
