    Floor finals was really the highlight of these event finals. They actually expressed themselves and danced their hearts out as well as mixing in cool dance elements, poses with awesome tumbling. These were the days.

      She was actually 2 years too young at these championship, almost 14, you can tell by her face and body frame. I always thought she was the epítome of 1980s Soviet artistry along with Yurchenko and Omelianchik.

    This has got to be one of the earliest Yurchenko vaults in competition, based on how highly the judges scored that first one, despite the huge step forward. In my eyes, Stoyanova's vault was a 10.00 if Yurchenko's was a 9.90, but I suppose the judges were awarding extra points for innovation

    • @thesovgc
      @thesovgc 3 года назад +3

      Yes the Yurchenko vault was done for the first time at the 1982 World Cup by Natasha Yurchenko. (I can't find the month, I apologize.) Interestingly, her training mate Albina Shishova also was doing it during the same time, but Yurchenko was able to show it at a Major meet first.

    continued: Yurchenko went on to win Team Gold at the 1985 World Championships with the USSR. Her final competition IIRC was at the 1985 Chunichi Cup where she gave a moving speech at her retirement ceremony. She said 'With every beginning, there must be an end and this is always sad. Gymnastics has brought great joy to my life'.

    Actually, Yurchenko continued to compete until 1986. She won the 1985 University Games and was doing fine at the 1985 Worlds until errors during the AA and EF started to creep in (she looked exhausted there).

    • @thesovgc
      @thesovgc 3 года назад

      She also wasn't done any favors by her line-up positions at 85 Worlds (in optionals she was up 5th on vault and 3rd everywhere else).
      It's a testament to her and her coach Rostorotsky's innovative mentality that she was able to introduce a new skill on beam (layout stepout mount) at nearly 21 years of age. I also can't think of anyone who has done it better (which is saying a lot considering how ubiquitous it was at one point).

    I know the vaults were somewhat new, but I find it funny that people questioned Mary Lou's 10, which was harder and never done better in competition (though if someone has footage of a better full-twisting tsukahara, I'd love to see it).

    • @mmoran3
      @mmoran3 6 лет назад +4

      Yes I agree!! Stoyanovas vault 9.95 really? She started layed out , then piked, then tucked at the end!! Sloppy form and low landing!! Mary Lou vault was in total other league imo! Perfectly straight legs, toes pointed, very high and distance from the horse! if Stoyanova got a 9.95 for that, Mary Lou deserved a 10.50 on her full twisting Sukahara
