Thanks for posting this video. Sometimes DIY projects can be intimidating if you’ve never done it before but with the help of these videos it helps you familiarize yourself with the project prior to going hands on. Now my wife has the hot shower she wanted! Thanks again!
Finally! Got what I needed. Been looking for the controller for our R85 and every search produces the one with the perimeter plate you snapped on after mounting. The propane man installed ours without the perimeter plate. That's why I couldn't find a matching unit. Sheesh! Thanks DIY Dan.
Im building a new home in Rowlett, TX, using the Rinnai RU98, and close to completion, maybe two weeks, and realize I didn't run wires for the remote controller The RU98 is in a recessed box on the side of garage, about 20 feet from the master bath, where I would think I'd want the controller. So I guess I need to try to get wires to where I need them with minimal wall damage. I also was looking for information for connecting the 120 volt wires to the heater. I have found the small wires in the heater marked 120 volt, which I assume are the right wires, Just seems strange to be running number 12 wire to those very small wires, not a terminal block.
Don't need the controller unless you want to manually set the temp at time of use. If you don't have it then the temp will always be 140, assuming you change the dip switch.
controller panel wire color = White & Black , Tech keep saying 12V , ?? 12v AC or DC , Tech also said does not matter wiring , is that mean CONTRROLER Panel run 12v AC , Am i correct ? Thanks
It is connected to the unit via the doorbell wire. So the controller connects to one end of the doorbell wire and at the other end of the doorbell wire is connected to the hot water heater.
I asked without watching the whole video like a dubby. I just had my unit installed tonight and I was only getting 116 degree temp and the wife was very unhappy. I just switched the DIP switches to your configurations and I am at 140 degrees now. Thanks soooo much for the great video. Not even my own plumber could figure it out and that's after braking by whole house water purifier and trying to blame it on shipping. He installed it backward on top of leaving both filters coved in plastic, causing too much pressure to build and busting the nipple/connection piece in between the 2 stage filter. Then he had the nerve to tell me he was going to bill me ($140) to put it back on when the replacement comes in. What a day smh.
Dang, sounds like you need a new plumber. I get that he didn't know how to turn the hot water heater to 140, but to mess up so many other things isn't right. Glad the video helped.
@@Dollar_Menu why would a wife be unhappy with 116F water? It's already too hot for a shower. I left set our at 40C (104F) that is the ideal temperature.
lostcoastlocal 707 it get power from the outlet located next to the outdoor heater. The water heater comes with a standard wall plug so it simply plugs into an outlet.

Your welcome. It always helps me to go into a project armed with the knowledge of what to expect. Glad it helped.
Great video and details. Thanks

Appreciate all the videos!!

What should it do when you just connect 12 volts from a bench power supply?
Hi how to disconnect it to get the hot water directly without controller
Do we need to have in use a controller?? Or can we just use dip switch 6 to make hot 140 ??

Thanks, and it would have been nice to see the power input wiring also.
Power input wiring? Do you mean at the tankless heater? If have a video on that too.

Yes, if wire non- dependent, it is AC.
How do you switch the controllers from farenheit to Celsius?
I think you press the up and down buttons simultaneously.
Does this not need to be connected to the actual unit?
It is connected to the unit via the doorbell wire. So the controller connects to one end of the doorbell wire and at the other end of the doorbell wire is connected to the hot water heater.
