Mormons are actually the premiere preppers. They were storing food supplies back in the 1800's. My neighbor of some years ago was a Mormon and she told me, the rule of thumb was to always have at least a 1 year supply of food at all times. Don't forget, root cellars were very common even as late as the 1970's.

I'm not in the church but I contacted the local food storehouse and the guy spent a few minutes talking to me and giving me the low down. Seems like a great program however the one near me doesn't have a volunteer program. Thank you guys, LDS I mean, allowing non church members to shop at your granaries is truly a Christian service to the community.

As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I recognize the importance of preparing ourselves & families temporarily for the future.
This month I decided to used some of my extra grocery money to begin storing in case of emergencies or hard times.
Ironically the person who came to mind was this channel, so I searched wranglerstar food storage and bam, this video came up! Haha thanks brother, I really do appreciate you’re sincere services in providing these resources.
I know there are many resources on the topic of food storage I could’ve searched for info, however I don’t think it was out of coincidence this channel is what came to mind.
I’m excited to get started on my food storage journey and can’t wait to see what I can learn along the way!
Thanks again @Wranglerstar and fam, I’m sending prayers & appreciation on y’all’s behalf.✊👍🇺🇸

Wranglerstar Family I want to thank you for sharing this info. I've been wondering how the Mormon Cannery would treat an "outsider". You've given me the reassurance that I needed to make a visit to my local...
Mr. Wranglerstar if you ever question whether the time and effort you put into these videos is worth it I want you to think of what I am writing here. The knowledge you share in your videos helps people. If we (The People) face WROL know the information you have shared will of saved many lives or at the very least improved their quality of Iife.

We are LDS and enjoy the products from the cannery. The apple slices are yummy. We use the wheat to make breads and and pancakes and such and, the potatoe flakes are pretty tasty too. We like the oats. You can also get sugars and drink mixes. They also sell hot chocolate and I believe it is actually Stephens brand hot chocolate mix ( the owner of Stephens is LDS) not sure if im correct on that but it tastes the same. Have you used any of the products? What did you think? Remember, food storage is meant to be used and replenished and you should always store what you like to eat. My aunt stored M&M's in a #10 can with a oxy pack for freshness for for grandkids.

I've been a LDS shopper for over a year and have been very happy with the quality of the food as well as very nice and helpful folks. I prefer the #10 cans due to ease of storage. My wife was not onboard with the stocking up to the levels I've got till I lost my job and then she started using the food and found it very high quality. Love the Rice and Oats!
Sorry to hear of your loss. May God bless you and your family.

Hi Cody, I appreciated your kind words about Mormons as well. One other idea is that you can purchase 25 lb bags of the dry goods directly from the cannery and take them home to put in the buckets. I have found I can get free 5 gallon buckets- food grade- from local bakeries. I purchase a few of the gamma lids in different colors. Rice in red, sugar in yellow. But I leave the original lids in place until I need to open them the first time. This way I only need a few of the gamma lids.

My experience was the same. I called ahead to get the 'open-to-the-public' hours, and the are very friendly and open about their mission (non-religious). I like the fact that they teach their members about self reliance, take care of your family mentality. When I actually showed up they treated me as if they had known me all along. I've had the occasion to come across people I knew were Mormon, and without exception they were very orderly and genuinely nice.

I feel there is a true lesson to be learned (spiritual beliefs aside) from the Mormon Community. With little use of the imagination in a economic collapse situation you will be dealing with despirate people everywhere. So these self sustained communities like the Mormons have security in thier community. A group having a pulse on everyone in that group. When it comes down to it a family will defend itself, but strength in numbers. I know 3 of my 25 closest neighbours within a 5km radius.

I'm sure the cost is a bit more than the cannery, but I've noticed Walmart is now selling long term storage foods in #10 cans, in their own dedicated area. I was a little surprised to see it there. I've been to the cannery in my area and had a great experience as well, definitely a service to the community.

  • @fighting17chicago

Cody, when you can the food yourself at the cannery you can opt out of canning and just purchase the 25 lbs bags. Might save even more if you plan on using 5 gal/2.5 gal buckets for some of the storage. Just another option brother!

  • @penguinistas
    @penguinistas 12 лет назад

1:40 I prefer the mylar bags because (in my experience) the # 10 cans used at the LDS cannery had a big problem with rusting. Number 10 cans from the grocery stores didn't have the problem either.
The mylar bags also were less likely to leak than the vacuum food saver bags I've often used.
Other than that the LDS people were very nice, and had good prices. I've been back many times.
There is a printable list of what's available on the provident living website.

Cody, I use a different color of gamma lid, since they're $7 each, for each different type of food that is actively being used so you can get in and out of your rice bucket for example, without having to crack the regular lids open. That way I'm not opening multiple buckets of rice at a time, and it saves money on lids.
I am sorry for your loss. I also lost a cousin yesterday unexpectedly. We will be praying for them both.

Store what you eat, eat what you store! Rotate through your storage. Learn good preservation skills like canning and dehydrating. Store a supply of goods that don't require electricity to keep. Garden and freeze some, but can some too. Find deals at farmer's markets to extend your supplies, especially if your garden crop fails! Learn the skills to bake bread from milling the wheat berries to baking on several outdoor fire types. Learn a variety of bread skills: tortillias, biscuits, dumplings. Learn how to make pasta and noodles from scratch. Find old fashion food prep tools and cook ware! So many forgotten skills need to be revived! Until we actually try to use the old skills how will we know what is missing in our preps for self sufficiency!

You can get the potato flakes for A LOT cheaper at Sam's Club. We get our food grade buckets with the lids that hermetically seal at Home Depot (so no shipping). Mylar bags direct sells bags pretty cheaply that we use to put packets of food in. For example, a smaller sized bag is big enough for one meal's worth of rice or potato flakes or whatever. I use my hot iron (for my hair) to seal it (it works exactly like the sealer you buy for mylar bags). We then take the serving sized bags and dump them into a bucket and seal it. Stack the buckets. Easy. Oh and Mylar Bags Direct also sells the oxygen absorbers.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Great informative video Cody, I will be looking into checking online for a cannery close to where I live. I was a little scared at the end of your video, I wasn't sure if it was getting x-rated or not,LOL

Our storage system is the food grade buckets with Gamma lids and vacum packing in canning jars and other jars that can be vacum sealed look for the lids that have the click popup button in the center like a canning jar some of the short term food products from the ware house in tbe plastic pouchs can get bug infested after a couple years once we open a pouch we transfer any remaining product to glass jars even if we dont vacpac them they are bug proof

One very important thing to remember if you are storing any type of whole grains or berries you will need a way to grind them into flour. There are many electrical grinders but if you don't have electricity all you have is a large paper weight. You need to be able by hand.

You can cook and eat just wheat berries as-is too, actually. It's a great replacement for granola/muesli/whatever in the morning, or to put on salads.
Obviously that gets old fast, and flour is a desirable way to process it too, but just saying, you're not screwed if you're stuck with just wheat berries and boiling water.
