Shanks isn't a swordsman though, he's only used a sword when it's necessary and or convenient. He's a haki man first and a swordsman second. Thus Mihawk isn't the strongest swordsman since shanks is stronger then him during their duels. Also Mihawk isn't a haki man since creating a black blade doesn't necessarily mean using haki exclusively
It's simple. When considering if someone is a swordman there's 3 boxes that need checked. Is your fighting style revolved around your sword ☑️ Would you be any weaker if we remove your sword ☑️ Do we see you fighting with a sword more times than not ☑️

I think it was basically said in the video but I’ll rephrase it again. Using things such as Devil Fruits or Haki does NOT mean you arent a swordsman. Someone like Law or Fuji only uses their Devil Fruit through their sword. Someone like Shanks has ALMOST always been shown activating his Haki with his sword (even basic conquerors he began to draw his blade.
The larger One Piece RUclips / Twitter accounts fucked the community up with their terrible takes when regarding Mihawk, Swordsmanship and Haki Ridiculous
In my opinion, the only thing that we need to analyse when it comes to this debate is the Zoro vs Mr. 1 fight. This duel was clearly meant to show the difference between a swordsman and a sword user to the reader. People like Mr. 1 are not considered swordsmen by a master like Koshiro because swordsmen want to bend blades to their will, while Mr. 1 cuts everything without restraint. Mr. 1 is not a swordsman because he doesn't master his blades at all : this is the first message of this fight. The second message of this fight is something that was told by Mihawk during his introduction : see, swordsmen do not follow "the way of the sword" because they belong to some sort of sect : they fight like they fight because "a blade, without subtlety, is nothing but an iron bar", which means that true power lies in the mastery of the blade, not in raw, uncontrolled strength. Zoro surpasses Mr. 1 by applying Koshiro's philosophy to his fighting style ; Mr. 1 cannot defeat a great swordsman because his raw power is insignificant in comparison to true swordsmanship. This fight alone is enough to understand why someone like King will never be stronger than Zoro or Mihawk as long as he relies on his Lunarian powers entirely : King is very similar to Mr. 1 in terms of fighting style ; there's even a scene in which King performs "sword slashes" with his wings, and instead of aiming only at Zoro, he cuts his own men as well, including Queen ! King is a brute, and therefore would never be considered a swordsman by Koshiro or Mihawk, which is interesting, because Kaku implied that his legs were like swords, for instance. Kaku's legs are swords because Kaku is a martial artist who knows what he's doing and actually masters the blade ; King's wings are not swords because they cut everything without restraint. Also, keep in mind that Mihawk, during the Marineford war, was able to aim only at Luffy while avoiding Navy soldiers as well as the other pirates : the difference between Mihawk and King is pretty clear to me. In a nutshell, the definition of swordsman is not that ambiguous : some people ignore the actual definition because Oda shows us through the Zoro vs Mr. 1 fight and the Zoro vs King fight, that the best swordsmen are stronger than simple sword users, which doesn't fit the narrative of so called "One Piece fans" who don't really care about the story being told.
A swordsman is a person trained in the art of the sword. Therefore, sword users are those who use the sword as an extension for their Devil Fruit or Haki, such as Big Mom, Law, Kizaru, Aokiji, Shanks, etc. Haki and swordsmanship complement one another. Haki is used to boost existing sword skills. But there is a difference between the two when it comes to the characters' goals, especially since Mihawk said himself that his title is surpassed by other titles people seek that may happen to use swords. "Becoming the Pirate King is a path more perilous than trying to surpass me." - Mihawk Great video by the way! Much love Zage.
youre just wrong, fujitora and law are outrihjt stated go be swordsman even tho they have devil fruits, stick to making theories and cracking 1 or 2 good jokes every other podcast😃
Is zoro a sword user then because he uses haku. Is vista a sword user for using haki? Youre making dumb arbitrary arguments that literally dont and will never align with the story
Law and Fuji are already stated to be swordsmen LMAO😭. Shanks is said to possess such great sword skills that he was used to hype up Mihawk, and they were former rivals who deullled. Mihawk wouldn’t have been a rival with a non-swordsman. Stick to making theories and leave the power-scaling to those who possess the IQ for it by making logical arguments based on the Manga and Vivre card, and not just guessing with headcanon.
Although I understand your take I vehemently disagree with your definition of sword users. Fujitora would also be a sword user that uses a sword as an extension of his devil to guide/channel his gravity however he’s out right stated to be a swordsman and the same goes for Law. Maybe we can discuss this further at a later date 🙏
Becoming pirate king vs surpassing Mihawk. Being pirate king or aiming towards that means you're going to have a whole lot of enemies, other pirates, the whole government vs fighting one man and beating him. Silly argument.
Key part is skill Mihawk said it best "a Sword without subtly is nothing but an iron bar" Skill can even be used without a sword we see zoro use no sword style dragon twister with no sword (other stories call it sword intent) If You see a Character with a blade and they can Use attacks with some skill They are a swordsman If just swing it around with some haki or pure strength its an iron bar Mihawk>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>shanks Roger Whitebeard bigmom
It's a shame that Mihawk and Oden never got to fight, Ryuma might be in the conversation as well as, prime Reigleigh, Roger, Garling and Gorosei Ethan, I believe that Mihawk is currently the best in the world but I don't think he is the strongest of all time, it's just so hard to tell because Mihawk doesn't have enough haki feats yet but I assume he must at least have advanced CoC because Zoro does
Both sides are correct, There is true swordsman and people not under Mihawks title. With that being said Shanks unfortunately fits under Mihawks title and he’s not the WSS. People like Big Mom, Law, King fit outside that that WSS
cant believe people actually think king is a swordsman idk what to say. He clearly says he likes a good duel/fight so he matched zoros style to enjoy himself (no idea if king needs a sword to use his stronger techniques or not) but if the man fights without a sword and says he isnt a swordsman) nice vid
Having alternate powers, whether it's conqueror's haki, a devil fruit, or a unique ability doesn't disqualify you from being a swordsman. But likewise, simply using a sword isn't all it takes to make you a swordsman. I think that the most important thing to consider is this: does the character have some sort of cultural respect for or cultural awareness of swords. Do they have a working knowledge of the named grade swords? Do they have their own distinct named style of swordsmanship and acknowledge the style of others? Are their actions filtered through the identity of a swordsman even when swords aren't involved? I think what really solidified the idea of a "swordsman" going beyond someone who simply uses a sword is that, whenever Zoro does something without any swords, it's still "no sword style". I do think that Shanks and Roger aren't swordsmen despite wielding swords (and even having named grade swords). Their blades are just means to an end, they don't have a special reverence for swordsmanship the way Zoro and Mihawk do.
He is the flag bearer of this delusional takes what would change if he sees😅? That guy places one Advanced conquerors haki user as top of the world and other ACOC user as Sanji equal 🤷🏻♂️🤦. He creates a fake gap between Law, Kidd and Zoro because Shanks one shotting kidd would be less impressive for him😅. Most of it is a problem of translation, like sandman explained with the kengo and dai kengo problem, for exemple viste is a dai kengo, so a master swordsman, but not Zoro who for now is just a kengo, wtf doest that even mean... There is also a problem of to many sources exterior to the manga like data book and vivre cards that contradict themselves constantly, and are apparently not really written by Oda but more of a marketing product created by independant team...
I think King is a swordsman, he just doesn’t follow any particular style, when King went 100% and serious with Zoro he had his sword with him and also Zoro said he might end up tearing out Kings neck with his throat, by that logic wouldn’t he admit to not being a swordsman right there
To me a swordsman is any sword user that heavily uses their sword for offense and defense. So guys like fujitora, law, kaku, and shanks are swordsman. But people like king, big mom, and queen aren’t swordsman since they use their swords as only a small part of their arsenal. Big mom for example only has one named sword technique while the rest are combination attacks using her homies, queen only ever used his sword to do a couple of slashes, and king relies almost entirely on his lunarian flame powers. Characters like law and fujitora use their sword in tandem with almost all of their DF powers, channeling their powers to enhance their sword techniques. Shanks essentially does the same but with pure haki. He’s never been shown to do anything besides his sword in combat and Mihawk himself views him a swordsman. I understand that shanks has some of the best feats in the series and his portrayal has been better than mihawks, but there’s nothing that he has done that contradicts mihawks title as worlds strongest swordsman. At marineford he used no named attacks, suffered no damage, and overall seemed disinterested in the event. When shanks arrived, it’s already established that he doesn’t want to fight shanks because he knows that he’s not at his full potential since he lost his dominant hand. It seems more of an issue of pride, he doesn’t want to beat his former rival when he’s not at his true best. Same reason he doesn’t want to fight any emperor, he doesn’t want to be PK and they wouldn’t fulfill his desire to beat a swordsman stronger than shanks. It’s also blatantly stated that he surpasses shanks in sword skill. Not to mention he has a higher bounty than 2(formerly 3s if you include BB og bounty) the marines gave buggy emperor status purely because they believed he reigned in mihawk and crocodile. He also has a higher bounty than 3 guys who defeated an emperor
Imagine if King actually went to a school to learn how to use swords PROPERLY, and had a better role model . He'd be so much stronger and more useful as a person instead of a killin machine 🤔
Fighters who fights using swords and enhance their techniques with haki who doesn't have No df, no special race powers, don't use kicks in serious fights or uses punches. Mihawk Shanks Roger Rayleigh Oden Zoro Vista Cavendish Etc., But somehow Shanks stans think he isn't fit in this catagory because!? He is a "Hakiman"😅 (only Garp deserve that Title) Hex even df users like Law, Kinemon, Fujitora are considered Swordsmen.
Yo Zage great video but I have an issue with your swordsman interpretation. We’ve exchanged opinions on this before. I’m glad you brought up the fact that King doesn’t fight differently from Kaku or Cabaji because he simply 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯’𝘵. Add also the fact that S-Hawk has Daz Bones’ fruit and it doesn’t stop him being a swordsman and we come full circle - King IS a swordsman Reason i say this is due to deductive reasoning. I’ll explain: King says he doesn’t need a school/style to fight, Zoro says he never claims to be a swordsman so it’s an open and shut case right? No, Zoro goes on to second/harbour this same line of thinking with his next statement “Fine have it your way… I’d be willing to bite your neck if it meant i win”. This statement implies that Zoro too would fight ‘without a school or style’ (like King) to win. Zoro fighting in this way wouldn’t stop him from being a swordsman, so if it doesn’t stop Zoro being a swordsman why would it stop King? Second reason, in chapter 1027 at the end of the chapter. Zoro gets frustrated at Kings fighting tactics and tells king to “At least let him die by the sword”. Zoro has fought many non swordsmen throughout the series and even in the same arc fought freakin Kaido, yet even at death’s door never asked a single other supposed non swordsman to finish him off with a sword, so then why would he ask the “non-swordsman” King to do this? Unless King actually IS a swordsman Last reasoning is the fact that King himself engaged in a sword duel with Zoro in 1032, saying he loves a good sword duel. What non-swordsman actively participates in sword duels? It’s like Luffy saying he loves sword fights With all these factors, it’s far more reasonable to assume King is a swordsman rather than he’s not a swordsman. As the interpretation for him not being a swordsman has far too many inconsistencies whereas King being a swordsman is backed by past and present information within the story
I’ve already addressed King liking a good sword duel already in the vid. Zoro stating his preference on how he wants to die doesn’t suggest King is a swordsman Zoro is just stating his preference. S-Hawk does use Mr 1 fruit but I never argued Mr 1 isn’t a swordsman because of his fruit but rather his style not being swordsmanship whereas S-Hawk style is. I’ll make this a community post later but I don’t think Zoro saying “I might tear into your throat” suggests he’s willing to discard his style. As I’ve covered already there’s examples of versatile swordsmen that don’t strictly use the sword for everything so Zoro can fight like a savage whist adhering to his style of swordsmanship. It’d be like arguing that because Zoro kicks someone during a fight that he’s abandoning his style in that instance. Hopefully that clears things up
The Mihawk and Shanks situation is so simple. They used to duel and be equals without a clear winner. Shanks lost his arm and became weaker than Mihawk, thereby making Mihawk the WSS. From then on Mihawk no longer wanted to fight Shanks because Shanks could no longer fight at full potential. Shanks and Mihawk continued to grow stronger through the years with Mihawk staying superior. Because if he isn't superior than Oda wouldn't give him the title, now would he. It could be very possible that if current Shanks had two arms that he would be stronger than Mihawk and would be the WSS.
The problem with that is Oda himself stated that losing an arm didn’t weaken him. In fact, he’s a lot stronger now than he was back then based on feats and statements AFTER!
Another problem is that despite being a swordsman himself, Mihawk openly denies challenges from Shanks due to his handicap. You can interpret that as either Shanks is too weak to be considered a worthy adversary OR Mihawk is ducking Shanks because he doesn’t wanna lose the title to a one-armed swordsman. It can’t be the first one as he literally accepted a pre-timeskip Zoro who Shanks can easily one-shot.
A very likely answer is that being a “swordsman” has a code of conduct that restricts others for the right of the WSS title: - Must be a man. The main reason why Kuina “fell off the stairs”. Swordsmen seem a bit sexist. - Must not have a handicap. Seen when Mihawk denied Shanks challenge. - Must be only using bladed weapons. Zoro was seen with disgust when he saw King use other weapons other than blades. - The WSS title is a fight to the death. Which is why Zoro was ready to die after losing to Mihawk. As the title-holder, Mihawk can choose to spare Zoro. But Zoro might have to kill Mihawk to get the title? I always wondered why NO former title holders are seen…
I think people overestimate Mihawk's title. I don't believe his title means he's the strongest character among people that uses swords. It just means that in a pure one-on-one sword fight, Mihawk will win against anyone. Of course, others will naturally find other ways to win and make up for the lack of sword skill to defeat Mihawk.
Mihawk simply doesn’t want to fight shanks in a battle of swordsmanship… it would be unhonorable in mihawks eyes as shanks would have to compensate in haki for what he lacks in swordsmanship. Shanks has undoubtably reached a mastery in haki that has far surpassed all the current contenders… he’d wipe them off the face of the planet straight up since haki transcends all.
Swordsmanship~~~haki. In magazine Zoro is stated that he imbued his blades in haki and that was the pinnacle of swordsmanship. Swordsmanship and haki come with being a user of the sword.
Mihawk is very strong, i agree he is the strongest swordsman alive, but i don't think that the vivre card should be taken like some sort of holy text whe it states that "every swordsmen fears 'Hawk-Eye'". In my opinion these kinds of discussions should go by feats and so far Shanks is winning. If Oda blesses us with some cross guild action in the near future it could go the other way though.
Haki man = Raleigh, Roger, Shanks, Garp Devil fruit user = white beard, kaido, bigmom. Law Swords man = mihawk, zoro, ryuma, vista Swordsman =only sword techniques Devil fruit= haki and devil fruit Haki man = only overwhelming haki and could be fist sword, cannons, and bombs (What they actually mean)
Everybody capable of using haki is going to use it to augment their abilities. You don't just haki people to death outside of basic conquerors and the wifi haki feat. You use haki to increase your offensive and defensive capabilities as well as your reaction time and general awareness. If a haki man is a thing (even though it's just a made up term only ever used to gas shanks at mihawk's expense, otherwise, no other character gets this level of splitting hairs distinction), then everybody capable of using haki is a haki man.

Why isnt king a swordsman? Bc he doesnt use one sword style techniques or something like that? Did we see law, fujitora, roger or ray using this kind of style? As far as i know no they doesnt. Kaku is a swordsman even confirmed by oda and doesnt even use swords anymore but rankyaku aka wind scyth kicks. Aside all that who chooses if youre a swordsman or not? Bc king says he isnt a swordsman doesnt mean he isnt one when he meets the conditions. Just bc you take up a sword and use it but identify as a swordsman doesnt make you one lol.
Shanks clearly relies on his Haki more than actual sword techniques. The sword is more of an extension of his haki. I don’t think he can be considered a swordsman
He is considered a swordsman by author and is obviously a swordsman even without odas statements. Yes, he relies on Haki, everyone in the series does after a certain arc does, but there are still swordsman. Every time he fights, he uses a sword, and his main techniques are through his sword, it doesn’t matter if he imbues the sword with Haki or not. He doesn’t just drop the sword and start boxing.
So zoro infuses his swords with haki and his main powerup was haki so he shouldn't be considered a swordsman as well. Luffy uses his DF as an extension as well as he relies on haki as well so he isn't a DF user so he should be able to swim.
Shanks is still a swordsman, just an unorthodox one. Databooks said Shanks has top tier swordsmanship and was fighting legendary matches with Mihawk for years. Why have a specific named supreme grade blade if you don't care?

Lets get down to this mihawk vs shanks debate at its core. If were being honest, mihawk being stronger than shanks hinges on the idea that anyone who specializes in a sword will lose to mihawk. Problem is this isnt true because roger was a swordsman and mihawk admitted that becoming the pirate king is far greater than even beating him in a fight. So if its possible for roger to beat mihawk despite his title because hes simply stronger, its the same basic logic that applies to shanks as well. He has feats relative to whitebeard, hes on kaidos top 5 along with roger, and hes an emperor (which shouldve been the dead giveaway that hes over mihawk).
Becoming the pirate king requires having a strong crew, finding all the poneglyphs, reading them, and going to laughtale. It takes far more resources outside of your own individual strength to be pk. Becoming the wss just requires strength. So of course, logically, becoming the pk is greater than becoming wss since it's just much more difficult than simply training hard and beating mihawk. It doesn't mean you're automatically stronger than him if you become the pk.
Firstly Roger is dead and becoming Pirate king in the era where tons are trying due to Roger’s last words is logically harder than when Roger accidentally became pirate king as it was a title that didnt exist before the wg made it for him So false equivalence Secondly the pirate king title is irrelevant to Shanks vs Mihawk debate because you are giving Shanks credit for a title he also he will never have(Luffy becomes king not Shanks😂) Thirdly Yonko isn’t a title purely based on strength(see Buggy)(btw Mihawk’s bounty is higher than Buggy’s)so that argument is invalid Lastly that list cant be considered to be “Kaido’s top 5” unless you think Kaido thinks Oden is stronger than Garp/Shiki/Big mom/Sengoku/Rayleigh/Garling/Saturn Keep it mind Kaido was present at God valley

In my opinion, Oda just fumbled the bag by calling mihawk the worlds strongest swordsman and also having a ton of top tier fighters in his verse use swords. It makes no narrative sense for mihawk to be stronger than people like Roger, current shanks, or prime whitebeard. Who even is this guy? We basically know nothing about him other than he’s just the world’s strongest swordsman. Who trained him? Why is he interested in swordsmanship? How did he get his current sword? Why does he seemingly have no other motivation besides just waiting for someone to challenge him? It’s narratively silly and reductionistic to just say anybody that uses a sword (including all of these way more relevant top tiers) are simply mihawk victims, especially when people like shanks and Roger clearly surpass him in haki mastery and people like whitebeard and big mom have more than just sword techniques in their arsenal. This title holds way more weight and importance than it should in a story that has a much more complex combat system than just swordsmanship.
@@zagessj yes but Roger’s reputation is not built off of swordsmanship. The man basically just incidentally uses a sword, in a stereotypically pirate way, or so it seems based on how he’s presented. Plus shanks is his direct successor and luffys goal and inspiration. So narratively Mihawk shouldn’t be stronger than shanks either. Lots of people consider whitebeard a swordsman of sorts. We shouldn’t have to be having these discussions where we go over technicalities. It’s up to Oda to make these things clear in how he presents the characters.
@@crimsonfire6932Maybe just maybe you should just wait for Oda to focus on Mihawk as a character? And then you will probably get all your answers. I don't understand this mentality of blaming the character because the author still hasn't chosen to focus on him. There is literally no reason to believe that Roger wasn't a swordsman. Obviously his title of Pirate King is more talked about than his title of WSS. Mihawk himself said that it's tougher to achieve being Pirate King than the WSS. Also there is literally no narrative reason for Shanks being stronger than Mihawk. Just because he is Luffy's goal, (not even concrete goal mind you like becoming PK, but just a product of the journey that he will surpass Shanks and his crew)? You do realize that Shanks and Mihawk can be relative enough that when Luffy surpasses Shanks he also surpasses Mihawk. So by the time Zoro fights Mihawk, Luffy will already be beyond both so you won't get a problem where people will think Zoro is stronger than Luffy. If Shanks is stronger than Mihawk then why the fuck did Oda lie 25+ years? Why didn't he just give Shanks the title? You think Oda would betray Zoro's entire dream/ambition/promise to Kuina and Luffy? Imagine we get to the One Piece and it's revealed Mihawk's title is fraudalent and Shanks was the WSS. Whoopsie Oda lies, sorry Zoro you failed your promise to Luffy. And Shanks is dead too so you couldn't even keep your promise to Kuina. My point is if Mihawk is stronger than Shanks then nothing is contradicted and the story still works. But the other way around the entirety of Zoro's character crumbles and he fails. What do you think Oda will do.
@@crimsonfire6932Well anyone with eyeballs can see that whitebeard’s weapon isn’t a sword… Does Oda need to say the sky is blue? There is no narrative reason for Shanks to be stronger 😂 saying he inspired Luffy so he should be stronger is like saying Rayleigh has to be stronger than Mihawk because he trained Luffy…. Thats just baseless bias I really need it explained to me why Shanks needs to be stronger than Mihawk in order to lose to Blackbeard 😢 Mihawk’s narrative role is to be strong as he is the final obstacle for Zoro’s goal… you know the second most prominent character Downplaying Mihawk is putting a cap on Zoro’s strength because a lot of people are uncomfortable with him surpassing Shanks even though logically the strawhats will be far more powerful than the Roger pirates/Redhair pirates Unless you think the world government = Whitebeard’s crew which tied with Roger’s Lastly Shanks being weaker than Mihawk wouldnt make him weak or uninspiring! He would still be a top 2-3 pirate! His narrative role still served and he still gets to look good while having top tier feats
Still stands that Mihawk has some of the worst swordsman feats in the verse despite being the "strongest" ghandi clears but I'm not gonna waste time arguing on here
Zoro feats>Ryuma feats. Ryuma slams Zoro despite having fewer feats. Mihawk>a swordsman and a sword user. His vivre card says he's looking for upcoming ""sword users"" that will surpass Shanks.
that means Cabaji is a master in a certain style of sword fighting that we unfortunately couldn't see since Zoro one shotted him. WHere King has no adhereness to any sword style, and is a killing machine only
I would’ve been convinced if shanks actually knocked out greenbull with that shit. Mihawk already called shanks a bum to his face and in front of all of his crew mates, they didn’t say shit back 😂
You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned Haki is an Enhancer, but you failed to mention what that means. Haki and Swordsmanship are 2 SEPERATE things. Your fighting style whether it be using a Devil fruit, or swordsmanship can be Weaker or Stronger than your Haki. It means if 2 swordsman fight, It wont be their swords skill / School of sword style that wins in the end, its who has the stronger Haki between them. Mihawk is the strongest swordsman in the world in terms of sword skill as stated in his bounty reveal, but having the highest sword skill does NOT mean you have the strongest Haki. As someone that reads a lot on f Asian stories I can confidently say a swordsman and someone that uses swords are two completely different things.
What Asian stories would you recommend
@zagessj There is a lot of Different kinds of stories
A great one "chronicles of the heavenly demon"
It does a good job explaining skill Strength and power between masters
He is a Spear user though
A good sword Story is "absolute Sword sense"
He does Use outside forces to Enhance his Blade but it's mostly Skill and the blade
A unique Story but a great story is "a modern man who transmigrated to the Murim world"
It's not heavy on swords exactly he is just a grand Master and the way he gets there is a unique way
But has skill and more than skill
These stories can help understand one piece Swordsman
Skill is always required with swordsmanship
But not many know what skill is
The breath of all things is haki related but also similar to many ideas in other stories
It has to do with will
Fantastic video chief, a lot of people need to see this ❤🤲

I think it was basically said in the video but I’ll rephrase it again. Using things such as Devil Fruits or Haki does NOT mean you arent a swordsman. Someone like Law or Fuji only uses their Devil Fruit through their sword. Someone like Shanks has ALMOST always been shown activating his Haki with his sword (even basic conquerors he began to draw his blade.
The larger One Piece RUclips / Twitter accounts fucked the community up with their terrible takes when regarding Mihawk, Swordsmanship and Haki
Ridiculous
Yup. The community is permanently scarred by headcanon.
1 fight and the Zoro vs King fight, that the best swordsmen are stronger than simple sword users, which doesn't fit the narrative of so called "One Piece fans" who don't really care about the story being told.
i dont think saying king isnt a swordsman bc he cut his own man with his wings makes sense bc i doubt he cared about them.
Good video, I'm really curious to see how Mihawk got the title of world's greatest swordsman and his relationship with Shanks.
"Becoming the Pirate King is a path more perilous than trying to surpass me." - Mihawk
Great video by the way!
Key part is skill
Mihawk said it best
"a Sword without subtly is nothing but an iron bar"
Skill can even be used without a sword we see zoro use no sword style dragon twister with no sword
(other stories call it sword intent)
If You see a Character with a blade and they can Use attacks with some skill
They are a swordsman
If just swing it around with some haki or pure strength its an iron bar

Which One Piece swordsman could eat the most Papa John's pizza?

Add also the fact that S-Hawk has Daz Bones’ fruit and it doesn’t stop him being a swordsman and we come full circle - King IS a swordsman
Reason i say this is due to deductive reasoning.
Unless King actually IS a swordsman
Last reasoning is the fact that King himself engaged in a sword duel with Zoro in 1032, saying he loves a good sword duel. What non-swordsman actively participates in sword duels? It’s like Luffy saying he loves sword fights
With all these factors, it’s far more reasonable to assume King is a swordsman rather than he’s not a swordsman.
A databook says Shanks didn’t lose any power from losing his arm. Mihawk is still stronger but the arm argument doesn't really hold up
The problem with that is Oda himself stated that losing an arm didn’t weaken him.
@@mstr293 it is definitely the first one. Mihawk practically WANTS to lose
A very likely answer is that being a “swordsman” has a code of conduct that restricts others for the right of the WSS title:
- Must be a man.
What is a pure 1 v 1 sword fight? What constitutes a pure sword fight?
@@yugfus sword only no fist or kick. No devil fruit power. Equal or no haki. Just pure test of sword skill.
That's the entire problem, taking feats over narrative.
Haki man = Raleigh, Roger, Shanks, Garp
Devil fruit user = white beard, kaido, bigmom. Law
Swords man = mihawk, zoro, ryuma, vista
Swordsman =only sword techniques
Devil fruit= haki and devil fruit
Haki man = only overwhelming haki and could be fist sword, cannons, and bombs
(What they actually mean)
Shanks is a confirmed swordsman in Mihawks vivre card.

How long does it take for you to edit a video like this?
I think best swordsman means talent with sword technique and not actual haki potency
Well Mihawk is strongest swordsman
Indeed
@@Immmboredddand Oda ever said mihawk beat Shanks to claim the title over 12 years ago? How does this not apply to someone like Zoro? Since the timeskip, haki progression was the most important thing for him getting stronger. In the new magazine it said his advanced conquerors haki was the pinnacle of his swordsmanship so far.
is there anything else interesting to talk about besides mihawk or zoro?
Yoru was stated > all blades so mihawk > wb anyway
This answer is simple. Mihawk is the most skilled swordsman but not the strongest.

Might be a hot take, but imo the strongest swordsman title doesn’t really speak to anything besides Mihawk winning 1v1 in a sword duel. I think shanks is the problem if mihawk is the worlds strongest and shanks is equal to him than why is he considered the strongest swordsman if shanks is his rival but i think titles dont mean much actually because you have someone like wb and than xebec who seems to be stronger than even him so i don't think people realize these characters have a reputation but it doesn't mean its utter facts just true in terms of that they are really strong so that title seems to be true.
Unlike whitebeard or kaido who got their “words strongest” title as more of an epithet Mihawk is actually said to have traveled the world challenging swordsman until none could face him. He’s the world’s strongest swordsman in name and reality.
@@kingmanga8575 that would be true if shanks was dead and he only doesn't consider shanks a challenge not because he thinks shanks can't fight him but to him it's a dishonor to fight a man with 1 arm it's more than just strength like y'all want to believe and what sense does it make for Zoro opponent to be stronger than the guy Luffy is trying to surpass? You get my point oda is clearly saying shanks rivals Mihawk even if he is a lil stronger that tiny gap in power means nothing.
@@Re-Bourne “what sense does it make for zoros opponent to be stronger than the man luffy is trying to surpass”
that’s like saying zoro can’t be stronger than lucci because he was someone luffy was trying to surpass.
Shanks isn’t going to be luffys final fight or the strongest person in the verse. That will likely be imu or blackbeard. Plus the person luffy is ultimately trying to surpass is roger. Shanks is just another yonko at the end of the day. He is not luffys goal. Luffys goal is to be much greater than shanks. Shanks glazers prop up his importance too much. Luffys goal is to be pirate king not just a mere emperor of the sea.
It is said in Mihawks vivre card (which is supervised by Oda) that Mihawk is looking for a swordsman stronger than his rival shanks to challenge him. Clearly portraying that eos zoro will be stronger than shanks. That doesn’t mean Zoro will be equal to or stronger than luffy (cause id argue blackbeard, imu, and eos luffy r all stronger than shanks and Mihawk) it just means zoro will simply be superior to shanks and mihawk.

Firstly Roger is dead and becoming Pirate king in the era where tons are trying due to Roger’s last words is logically harder than when Roger accidentally became pirate king as it was a title that didnt exist before the wg made it for him
So false equivalence
Secondly the pirate king title is irrelevant to Shanks vs Mihawk debate because you are giving Shanks credit for a title he also he will never have(Luffy becomes king not Shanks😂)
Thirdly Yonko isn’t a title purely based on strength(see Buggy)(btw Mihawk’s bounty is higher than Buggy’s)so that argument is invalid
Lastly that list cant be considered to be “Kaido’s top 5” unless you think Kaido thinks Oden is stronger than Garp/Shiki/Big mom/Sengoku/Rayleigh/Garling/Saturn
Keep it mind Kaido was present at God valley
@@svz1345THANK YOU!!! I’ve been making the same point to shanks glazers for years atp.
Incredibly strong characters have been trying to find the op for decades. Finding the op isn’t solely abt strength. It’s only one piece of a muuuuch bigger puzzle.
Roger could theoretically be the strongest character in the verse but without odens ability to read poneglyphs roger likely would’ve never made it to laugh tale. Finding the op isn’t necessarily abt strenght its abt resources.
Buggy of all ppl is trying to become the PK and he's close in doing so.
Roger never became the PK by fighting ANYONE strong. The closest he came to fighting anyone strong was big mom who he ran away from after he stole the poneglyph. The other 3 were handed to him on a silver platter.
Becoming the PK is bigger bcz u have to do more than just fight, u need to have a strong crew, influence etc etc. It's not just fighting. It's about finding the poneglyphs which god know where they are located around the world.

Red databook (the same one u guys ride bcz of observation cancelation): shanks used to be as strong as the world's strongest swordsman.

Mihawk>shanks is a canon fact. Guess what's funny? Swordsmanship~~~haki.
Zoro during Onigashima coated his blades in ACoC. Magazine states that is the pinnacle of swordsmanship. Aka, Rayleigh, Shanks, Roger are swordsmen, as they can do the same thing.
Mihawk is only stated to be the strongest swordsman alive so Roger wouldn’t fall under his title and Whitebeard isn’t a swordsman
Thats just baseless bias
I really need it explained to me why Shanks needs to be stronger than Mihawk in order to lose to Blackbeard
😢
Mihawk’s narrative role is to be strong as he is the final obstacle for Zoro’s goal… you know the second most prominent character
Downplaying Mihawk is putting a cap on Zoro’s strength because a lot of people are uncomfortable with him surpassing Shanks even though logically the strawhats will be far more powerful than the Roger pirates/Redhair pirates
Unless you think the world government = Whitebeard’s crew which tied with Roger’s
Lastly Shanks being weaker than Mihawk wouldnt make him weak or uninspiring! He would still be a top 2-3 pirate! His narrative role still served and he still gets to look good while having top tier feats
@@zagessjI think in the viver card mihawk is the greatest swordman off all time

That unfortunately belongs to Shanks.
